  1. I'm honestly a little surprised at how much more positive and supportive /r/Coldplay is than the forums. You would think that the greater anonymity of Reddit would make it the opposite, but apparently not  Granted, I still prefer the forums since they promote a greater platform for discussion (plus I've been hear for five years now so it's just my default :P ), but sometimes the vitriol can get to be a bit much EDIT: And when I say vitriol, I don't mean "I hate this song, I think it's crap" or "this song is great, you're wrong," I just mean the arguments that sometimes veer into more personal attack territory
  2. ^ Well, I would expect midnight, although apparently someone in Chile already has it, and it's around 10 p.m. there
  3. Nothing here in US yet
  4. So is this an instant-download thing if you've pre-ordered, someone who ripped it from the Zane Lowe thing, or a legit leak?
  5. This is a good point! Oddly enough, as you said, many of the songs off Viva seemed to showcase influences that were more Asian (Life In Technicolor, Yes) and African (Strawberry Swing's drumbeat) than Latin American. Cemeteries of London I could possibly see has having a LA "flavor" to it, but that's really about it. I suppose the influence of all these various cultures is more about getting the ideas flowing than actually having their respective unique sounds transfer directly into the songs. That's probably a good thing, though. I imagine taking icons and sounds directly from a culture would be pretty blatant cultural appropriation.
  6. Agreed. Unless Chris up and decides to write the new Imagine, nothing's topping Clocks. Someone above mentioned this could be a radio edit. I haven't listened to it, but for those of who have, is the length near 4:42?
  7. I haven't heard the song, but I'm really liking these lyrics. Reminds me a bit of X&Y-era lyrics :wacky:
  8. World record thing? What is everyone talking about? I'm not listening
  9. There are a few things I think might save Coldplay's #1 spot over Adele. For one, Adele's album will have already been out for three weeks by the time AHFoD drops. Hopefully all of her hardcore fans will have gotten their hands on a copy by then (300,000 copies in the first week is nothing to shake a stick at). Secondly, Adele caters to a massive "casual" fanbase. 25 is the kind of album you would get as a stocking stuffer or something similar. Tomorrow is Black Friday, the single biggest shopping day of the year (in America, at least). A ton of people will be out looking for Christmas presents and stuff like that--a perfect opportunity to pick up the album. Hopefully that will take care of a good majority of the "casual" fans and all the miscellaneous sales she's bound to get so that by the time Dec. 4 rolls around Coldplay has a good shot at nabbing #1 from her. Granted, Coldplay are probably one of the few acts in the world that could take on Adele and possibly come out on top. If we still had the sales numbers we did during the ARoBttH/X&Y eras, I think we could take her. But, coming off the relatively (compared to other Coldplay albums) low sales of GS, any little extra help we can get is very nice :awesome:
  10. This is the song that answers the question "what song should Coldplay take inspiration from?"
  11. Well that's a very interesting combination
  12. Yeah no, I was 100% kidding when I said I could do that. For one, we only have a few thousand subscribers. Also, we only report on things that directly have to do with my hometown :P
  13. ^^ I think the difference there is that Chris is a good straight-forward lyricist when the lyrics he uses are still unique. That's the difference for me between why I like Parachutes and why I dislike GS. Parachutes has simple lyrics, but they aren't your typical cheesy, cliched lines seen in a lot of songs these days. Ghost Stories relies much too heavily on lyrics that, frankly, are very unoriginal. It drains what's left of the emotion from an album that was already in sore need of it to begin with (mostly because of the emptiness of the overall soundscape). Now, had Chris nailed all of those songs with some Parachutes-esque lyrics, it would be a different story entirely. The instrumentation of GS, I think, is meant to feel stark and bleak and empty because that's how a breakup makes you feel. You don't feel like how the typical instrumentation of a Coldplay song would make you feel otherwise. That's where the lyrics are supposed to come in. In that bleak field of despair, the lyrics are meant to allow you to dissect exactly what it is that's making you feel this way. If done right, they're that final gut-punch. Unfortunately, the GS lyrics get sucked into that vacuum of nothingness also, and you're just left drifting. I'm not trying to change your mind or anything, but those are just my thoughts, haha. Tl;dr is that I partially agree with you on the matter of lyrics :)
  14. Ah, that would make it easier then. All of my musical experience comes from the clarinet and all the various saxophones :P
  15. Hmm . . . I work as a reporter. I wonder if I could pull off using my press pass to get an advance copy for an "exclusive review" of the album
  16. Soooo . . . who wants to go snooping around the storage rooms of various stores with me next week :sneaky:
  17. You are the first person I've ever heard describe Clocks as lackluster
  18. Really? That's actually kind of surprising! I know everyone seems to love it now, but it seems that back then it would have been so different that a lot of people probably wouldn't have cared for it. Glad to know my vivi has always been loved :dazzled:
