^ Honestly, you could throw all of the ARoBttH-era songs in a bag, pull out 9-10, and wind up with a phenomenal album. Even the "worst" songs from that era are amazing.

Hnnnggg this song is one of my favorites. The Live 2003 version is superb

^ I actually like the method they have going of naming the album after an individual song--I don't know of any other band that has done that for all of their albums. Plus it provides a sort of anchor-point around the rest of the album revolves, if that makes sense. On an album called X&Y, if there is a song called "X&Y," you can guess that song will carry some pretty heavy symbolism and themes which you can then look for in the other songs on the album. (That being said . . . No, I don't know why the guys decided to name Mylo Xyloto after an instrumental track  I suppose since Mylo is meant to be a specific character, the intro is his theme song??) Plus, looking at Coldplay's track record, I think they've done perfectly so far in capturing the essences of each album in their respective title songs. I would be surprised if they had a misstep in that regard this late in their career.

^ I feel the same way. They are both trying to fill the same space, so to speak. It's jarring though, because MX in my opinion has better songwriting and AHFoD better captures that happy, jubilant feeling. I feel that if Coldplay had been able to mash those two together somehow, we could have gotten a much better single record out of one of them rather than the two sub-par records we got instead. There's some good stuff on both records, but it's spread thin.

How loud would he have to hum that song in order for someone other than his date to hear it? :p

^ Nothing so far. Christmas would definitely be a good time to drop it, but I feel like if we don't hear anything by the end of this week, that possibility is out. It's getting close enough that they won't be able to advertise it effectively.

^ Viva's b-sides are legitimately some of the most creative songs Coldplay has done. Chinese Sleep Chant is definitely one, A Spell A Rebel Yell, The Goldrush. If we're counting Prospekt's March as an EP of b-sides, then you can throw LiTii and Glass of Water in there as well--LiTii for its instrumentation and Glass of Water for its wacky time signature.

^ I've never dug into the relationships between bands and their labels beyond "We want you to make us some albums okay?" "Okay." But thanks for the info ;)

Haven't the guys said they don't plan on ever releasing a greatest hits album because they don't want to make fans pay for the songs twice?

Writers Unite!
English major / reporter / hopeful eventual novelist checking in! College and my job are keeping me busy enough that I didn't attempt NaNoWriMo this year, but I've got a couple ideas on the backburner that I've been toying with on and off for years now. I'm hoping that once I graduate I'll have some more time to write in the evenings and weekends. Nice to see that we have a little writing community on the forums :)

Noel Gallagher
Why are Noel's bonus tracks always the best songs on the album  I dig Holy Mountain and It's a Beautiful World, but I think overall the second half packs a bigger punch. From Wednesday 1 to Dead in the Water is phenomenal. Right now, Chasing Yesterday is still my favorite album of his, but a few more listens might put WBtM ahead of it

This version of Yes is killer. The ending reminds me of what they used to do with Clocks back in the X&Y days with the sped-up crescendo ending. Wish they would do something like this in the studio!

^ They've done this a few times for live performances, I believe. Once for their performance of Politik at the 2003(?) Grammys and once for Strawberry Swing at the ParaOlympic Games in London. There may be a few others here and there I'm missing, but it would be cool to have them bring something like that more fully into the studio. We got hints of it on Viva with the strings and horns!

Right. I just meant that the gap between the GS and AHFoD eras seemed short because the tour for GS was pretty limited, but I guess it was actually closer to the "norm" than I realized. Either way, as you said, it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things

^ The gap between GS and AHFoD was an abnormality anyway, and it had a unique reason for its occurrence so the data from that can likely be tossed out. I like this chart though, and I agree with your May 2019 estimate. Unless the guys do decide to take a real break since this is the completion of their "first chapter," this sounds like a reasonable prediction. EDIT: If we're basing our LP8 predictions on previous data (and throwing out GS as an abnormality), does that mean we're getting another short title for LP8? :P

This sounds very similar to my own situation! Except I'll be graduating from college next year rather than starting it :p Coldplay was formed about two months after I was born, so they've literally been around my entire life (even if I didn't know about them until I was 12-13). College is a blast! It can be daunting at first, but try not to stress out about it too much. These past 3.5 years have been some of the best of my life, and if you go into it with an open mind, it will be the same for you too

I looked up one of the old Coldplay.com website designs from late 2010 for a school project and holy nostalgia Batman! I remember visiting the site every day hoping for a new Roadie #42 post. Note they still have a link for LRLRL  https://web.archive.org/web/20100701063827/http://coldplay.com/

This is when the fun starts! The sloooow buildup as we gradually learn bits and pieces over the next few years. It's always a good time speculating--even if we tend to get a little antsy in the year leading up to an album drop (it seems so close! Yet we don't have a lot of concrete information! But we know something is coming! But we don't know when! Give us anything, Coldplay!) ;) Then we get the first staticky recording or fuzzy picture with some potential song names, and the hype train really gets going. I'm holding off switching into LP8 gear until after Live 2017 drops, but I'm looking forward to going crazy with you all again! :D

I don't know if these are the most "Oldplay" ones or just the ones I like lol but here we go: Atlas (did this come out before or after MX? I don't remember lol) Major Minus Moving to Mars DLIBYH Up with the Birds Always in My Head Midnight Oceans O All Your Friends Ghost Story A Head Full of Dreams AICTAIY A L I E N S Hypnotised So, about 1.5 albums' worth out of the past 3.5 releases. So in these past releases, about 40% of the songs have been "good," in my opinion :P

If you had a blank check to buy any vehicle, what would you get?
Literally same :joy: Of course, my backup car would have to be sexy to balance it out. Maybe a Lambo lol

That segue into Poppyfields is  I don't listen to Coldplay as often as I used to (my Spotify playlist has expanded exponentially so now there's more on it than Coldplay, Keane, and Muse lol), but Prospekt's March is one of their few songs that I go out of my way to listen to at least once a week. It's not my favorite song of theirs, but I would argue any day of the week that in terms of pure craftsmanship, sonic sound, and lyric-work, it is one of their absolute best.

A Head Full of Dreams Film - In Cinemas Nov.14
I don't know why this is the first thing that came to mind, but this sounds like something I would hear floating down the canals of Venice in the moonlight :joy: It's got a really cool, unique vibe to it. Would love to hear something like this from them as an official release in the future
