  1. Lenny, I just want to say that I always appreciate you trying to get us to let go of our bias of more popular music. We may not have the same taste in songs (beyond Coldplay lol) but I can tell you're passionate and knowledgeable about music and that is just awesome  Thanks for reminding me that a collaboration with a popular artist doesn't mean the end of the world
  2. As long as it doesn't get put on the EP (or any future Coldplay releases), Chris can do what he likes But oh God, if this is the type of collab they are wanting to do . . .
  3. ^ Same. The guys are so good live that hearing a studio version after getting used to all the hype and energy of a live version just makes the studio version seem boring by comparison :P Now that I say that, problems like that probably aren't that common among bands today lol. It's hard to put on a good live show!
  4. Maybe they're rush-recording a new song? It's weird there hasn't been anything official about it. I would say someone spilled the beans and published it too early, or it's some sort of weird typo/old release date. Please, don't let this be a thing of them pushing back the release date to get that collab they wanted on the EP . . . :cold_sweat:
  5. When we getting that album art though
  6. ^ Really, they could have replaced almost any two songs on the album and improved it, except for maybe Birds/Up&Up. Axe XMtS completely, swap in Hypnotised for Amazing Day and AICTAIS for Fun/AoO, and use the single version of Everglow and we'd be looking at a vastly improved AHFoD, in my opinion I'm just hyped for this bassline, guys. Guy so rarely gets a chance to shine, but when he does it's always awesome
  7. This one. It's gonna be this one.
  8. ^ Someone posted an ASCAP screenshot in the other thread which credited him as a writer. Seems to be the only confirmation we have right now though
  9. The next question is: can we all prevent ourselves from listening to this on repeat until the EP is out? :p EDIT: And can we also appreciate how fantastic this EP is shaping up to be? If ALIENS winds up being half as good as this song this might wind up being the best thing the guys have put out in a long time
  10. Ugh you guys are making it really difficult not to listen to this:joy: I'm gonna cave. Bye-bye self-discipline edit: holy hell i need this song now. lyrics. bassline. jonny. the drum buildup this might be the best song they've done since the viva era i'm going to start crying in the basement of our student center guys :joy:
  11. ^ Ah, my mistake. It's been awhile since I listened to it :P Agreed about AHFoD. The only version I listen to anymore is MC01Coldplay's edit. They really cleaned up some of the more "draggy" songs that were in the middle and just improved a lot of things about the album in general. If only we could have gotten those Indian / 80s influences like so many of us wanted :( But that's a discussion that's been talked into the ground, so . . . Now that I'm thinking about it, Coldplay has never put out a "bad" true EP, in my opinion (and by that I mean an EP with actual b-sides, not remixes or live versions). Hopefully KEP keeps with the tradition!
  12. ^ There was a video of another soundcheck from a month or so ago that was posted a few pages back. I can't seem to find it now, but the snippet was only about 40 seconds long. Sounded like a mixture of the Strawberry Swing / Cemeteries of London beat and something from the Brothers & Sisters EP EDIT: Check page 43 of this thread :)
  13. Love Jonny's little guitar ditties; not as big a fan of the drum beat. I only listened to the first ~1 as I don't want to spoil myself too much, but it sounds a little like a watered-down The Scientist crossed with Another's Arms. Hopefully, as others have said, it isn't too repetitive. Would love some good lyrics also, but that may be pushing it a little :p EDIT: Though that other track (Aliens?) we've heard is killer. Very dark and reminiscent of the pre-Parachutes era
  14. ^ Honestly either one of them would be amazing. Summertime Sadness is a great slow song of hers that isn't too dreary. Melancholy is probably a good word to describe it. I could definitely see her and the guys cooking up something similar to that. Or something dark and gritty like Seven Devils from Florence (which for some reason reminds me of Violet Hill). Assuming a collab is happening at all, that is, lol. I'm just tired of Rihanna/Beyonce/Avicii etc. You guys have done pop collaborations--now do something else! :P
  15. I miss those old videos from between the Parachutes and ARoBttH eras (even though I wasn't around at the time to see them lol). The Nappies, Jonny Goes Jazz . . . I think Chris and Jonny even did that Shaun of the Dead thing around that time. They were silly but great! I think one of the videos even showed an early tracklisting for ARoBttH. And of course there were the Roadie 42 blogs during the Viva era . . . I wish they still did little things like that, but I can understand why they don't anymore! It's way more difficult to do personal things like that for your fans when you've got tens of millions of them spread across the globe plus live shows plus charity events, radio appearances, etc. etc. :P
  16. lol I mean I think they're fine--better than most of the lyrics we've gotten on the past several albums. Nothing *too* special but not terrible either. I'm fond of a couple of lines though. I assume since you've listened to it a lot of times that you've looked past the lyrics? :P
  17. No matter how divisive the forums/fanbase gets, this always seems to be the one thing almost everyone agrees on. Coldplay songs have great melodies, Jonny's solos are always amazing, and Guy is handsome :p
  18. ^ Yeah, at this point I just don't know what to expect from a Coldplay song based on the title alone lol
  19. I agree, there have been a handful of songs on every album that aren't exactly the best lyric-wise (the ones you pointed out being good examples), but it seems like the ratio of songs with good lyrics to songs with bad lyrics has been becoming increasingly skewed toward the "bad" side with the past couple of albums. If nothing else, they're becoming more cliché (murky as the meanings of some of those older lyrics are, you can't argue that "I wanna live in a wooden house" isn't original at least :joy: ). And ah yes, how could I forget that one. A classic from before the millennium!
  20. To be fair, he used to be one of the best (ARoBttH, Violet Hill, I Ran Away), and I think this is a solid offering. Certainly better than the lyrics on AHFoD. What repetition of lyrics there are I tend not to mind since the EP is kind of an extension of AHFoD. We had a couple of "feet not touching the ground" lyrics spread between Viva and Prospekt, after all. Ninja edit: One thing I find interesting is Chris's increasing reliance on lyrics that evoke imagery. If you look back at Parachutes, ARoBttH, and even X&Y and Viva a little bit, there's not a whole lot of solid imagery. It's all very abstract and left up to the listener to figure out what he means. And even when concrete imagery was used (like in Cemeteries of London, Green Eyes, and ARoBttH), it feels more like the images and circumstances are metaphorical. I feel like that has a lot to do with why a good portion of the forums feel that his lyrics have taken a dip in quality since the "Oldplay" days. We're given lyrics that are very much more literal and therefore leave less up to us to figure out and attach our own personal meanings to. Just a thought.
  21. ^ Maybe they specifically wanted to avoid drawing (as many) comparisons between LiT + LiT ii and Miracles + Miracles 2. If they use a ii after a title, it means an extension, but if they use a 2 it means something else?
  22. I read this as "5 seconds long" lmao One second for each song. Coldplay will set the record for shortest EP ever
  23. Same here. You can't really add anything to the original Miracles, so my bet is that it's going to be either: 1) A reworked version--more synthy or more guitar-driven or acoustic or something, idk. Something different enough to justify releasing it again after, what, 2 years? 3 years? 2) A "part 2" that counters the original song. Either a continuation of the story or an opposition to it in some way. Maybe the title "Miracles" will be more ironic this time around? Kinda like some people thought Paradise was actually going to be really dark and ominous before MX released? I actually enjoy the original Miracles, so I don't know how to feel about this :p
