Coldplay & The Foo Fighters (Chris on new documentary)
i think a lot of more "acclaimed" musicians are friends with chris/coldplay. but publicly, they are very nonchalant or making fun of them, as that's the norm with coldplay. think dave grohl might fall into that category although they seem to have a very long history. i remember reading somewhere how at the very beginning grohl came to will at the end of a gig and told him that he was a great drummer. chris said that had a lot to do with will gaining confidence as a drummer and will has always named grohl as a drummer he looks up to.

Coldplay's deal with Parlaphone to end after LP7?
sadly, i agree with you. also coldplay seem to be less entrepreneurial/business minded than the artists who make their own labels. they seem more focused on the music. having said that, creating their own label would be amazing. if not, how about a more experimental, less mainstream turn? that would be great!

Coldplay's deal with Parlaphone to end after LP7?
That is the case according to this: link so maybe they signed only a 2 record deal after MX. remember chris saying that LP7 would wrap up a story/journey? wonder whether this has anything to do with that idea.

"Miracles" new original song by Coldplay for movie "Unbroken"
stereogum also has an article citing the same one here. i have to say, this is quite a buildup even before coldplay are announced as part of the soundtrack for the movie.

"Miracles" new original song by Coldplay for movie "Unbroken"
this should have a better chance. it is an anjelina jolie movie with a coen brothers' script. also, even though no one has heard a note of the song yet, it is listed as a front runner for the oscar race. i am looking forward to this!

"Miracles" new original song by Coldplay for movie "Unbroken"
Coldplay, John Legend and Common enter the Best Original Song Oscar race Last year's "Alone Yet Not Alone" shenanigans were a nice reminder that the Academy's Music Branch can certainly march to its own drum (no pun intended), for better or worse. So you never can tell how the Best Original Song Oscar race will turn out, and the highest of profiles isn't necessarily a guaranteed pass. Nevertheless, this year's race — already marked by contenders from popular music such as New Radicals' Gregg Alexander ("Begin Again") and the legendary Patti Smith ("Noah") — has just picked up a trio of heavy hitters. I'm told that two of the final films still to be revealed this season, Ava DuVernay's "Selma" and Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken," feature original tracks that mainly play over the closing credits. "Glory" from the former comes courtesy of John Legend and Common, while "Miracle" from the latter is performed by Coldplay. "Miracle," I'm told, begins over "Unbroken's" post-narrative epilogue (images of the real Louis Zamperini, etc.) and continues into the credits. I'm not sure what other context "Glory" might have outside of the credit roll. Both songs join others like "Everything is Awesome" from "The LEGO Movie" (a favorite in some quarters) and "The Last Goodbye" from "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" in a category that is certain to remain at least somewhat nebulous until the nominations are revealed. But keep an eye on the tunes from musical "Beyond the Lights" — particularly "Blackbird" — which are featured in the context of the film. That is always a plus given the way this category has been decided in recent years (with branch members viewing clips of the eligible tracks as they are featured in the respective films). The Academy will reveal the official list of eligible Best Original Song contenders in early December. link

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
can't help but feel like coldplay are getting too comfortable right now. it seemed like the incredible viva was a direct influence of the harsh criticism they got for x&y. specially chris has said that he doesn't want to be cool anymore and he doesn't care what anyone says. while it may be good for them as people to have that attitude, it may have the opposite effect on their music and creativity. i think trying to fit in with the "cooler" bands, to validate their creativity put a spark on their music when challenged. btw, i'm glad that this discussion started. was wondering if no one else felt this. it is ok for bands to have missteps. everything can't be top notch. but as long as they come back strong.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
well said. coldplay are desperately in need of more interesting, new (at least to them) lyrical themes that are worth talking about. and hope the repetition stops or at least reduces. the only song from GS era that came close to rush of blood levels lyrically was ghost story. now that is how you make a great song out of a simpler theme. i do love the contradictory nature of true love though. even with the over blown repetition.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
i agree with you except on oceans. it sounds very organic to me. you can even hear the acoustic guitar strumming out of rhythm and the beat. i love that about the song. but in general, the record is too clean. it needs a bit of rawness to it.
