Coldplay’s Chris Martin Talks New Album: ‘It Isn’t for Everybody’ Chris Martin doesn’t think his band’s new album is for everyone, but he’s proud of it anyway. The Coldplay frontman talked with Carson Daly this morning (May 16) on 97.1 AMP Radio/Los Angeles in promotion of the band’s sixth studio album, Ghost Stories, due out next Tuesday (May 20). Martin explained that the album is about “life itself and all its glorious colorfulness” — the album the quartet wanted to make. “With this one I feel really proud,” Martin told Daly. “I feel like we made exactly what we wanted to make. It’s a strange feeling because we’ve only really achieved that once or twice before. It doesn’t make me question that we should have made it. This is something we specifically designed. It isn’t for everybody. It’s never easy when someone says, ‘I really don’t like your music.’ In this instance, there’s nothing I can do about it, ’cause this is exactly what we were supposed to make.” For the album, Coldplay enlisted help from an unlikely source on “A Sky Full of Stars” — EDM star Avicii. “That’s not really something that we could have done 15 years ago but now I feel like you’re just free to do anything you like,” he said. “This song came out in five minutes. It just came through. The first person we thought of to produce it was Tim, Avicii. He was very sweet and we pushed him so hard on it. I’m so grateful that he lent us his backwards baseball hat services.” Known for his self-deprecating humor, Martin addressed the band not having a “cool factor,” and being grateful for that. “We’ve never been the coolest thing or the most fashionable thing,” he admitted. “We’ve never been the most unfashionable thing. Well, maybe for a period. It just feels like we’re able to keep rolling and no one really notices. This whole thing is crazy, I can’t believe we’re allowed to do it. you know what? probably it is. i thought they were two different shows because of the different dates, but probably they are streaming the show on monday instead of live. makes sense since there have been nothing about ticket give-aways and what not. and the stream doesn't say 'live' either.

GS is a good album on the first listen, but it will take some time to actually sink in and to hear all the nuances. i feel like this is more of a can't-really-get-it-right-away sort of album. but, the thing that falls short right away are the lyrics. the simplicity and directness i can appreciate for several songs, but for most of the songs makes it look like the album lacks depth. to me it is clear this was intentional looking at the lyrics of all your friends and ghost story. the thing is, including simplistic lyrics in the album may backfire and miss the whole point of it for quite a few listeners. like i said though, this is a very satisfying album, just need to digest it a little bit more to form opinions on where it stands in their discography,
