  1. I have been reading reviews tonight and I can't say that I have ever seen a Coldplay album be so two-sided. I am on your side personally, I related the least to this album and overall found that it took very few risks. Sure it sounds very different than their previous efforts, and I think that is very commendable, but it sometimes comes off as shallow and generic, for me mostly in the tracks ASFOS and True Love. Chris' voice really began irking me on some of these tracks. Six albums in, I want to hear something different with it, and that is why I love Midnight and O where it is warped somewhat. After so many great songs over the years, that emotional punch as been lost for me. I love O and Oceans, but they don't stand out for me when I play them on shuffle with all Coldplay songs. What does stand out to me though, is the atmospherics. The end of Oceans and O, the AIMH, Midnight, the climax of Another's Arms, all are so amazingly deep. I connected more to sounds in this album than I did to actual vocals. Strange how these reviews either love this album or absolutely are repulsed about it. I can see why with some of the vocals on here. So much to love but also so much to cringe at.
  2. There actually were a bunch of shots too of some surprisingly older fans! I am 20 and was surprised at how many looked over 40! Maybe the dad-rock label is completely unfounded! haha But the overall show was great. They left out a few tracks I would have liked to hear live, but I am sure they will be on the dvd. Would have been the coolest live tour ever if they could have pulled it off.
  3. So so many obligatory shots of young women flailing their arms or rocking back and forth dreamily. Must have been over 100 in the entire hour. I really wish they did without that. It is a clear marketing technique that is trying way too hard to say, "Look at our cool young fans and how our music controls their every emotion, also they are beautiful young ladies." Not saying that I wouldn't be dancing like a madperson if I was there, but I swear they showed one individual young woman like 5 times ahahahaa.
  4. I guess I will take Chris' word for it, but I wonder if the band has ever actually felt completely settled and accomplished about a record. For example, Chris doesn't like playing most songs from X&Y but what about the rest of the band? We never have really heard their opinion on it. I completely understand why GS feels complete for Chris since the album is immensely personal for him, but I wonder if the rest of the band feels as strongly about the music, especially, after all, since a lot of the album doesn't showcase their skills (save Guy.)
  5. Definately! One of their best ever tracks, my personal favourite of Mylo Xyloto, just so explosive fun and incredibly produced.
  6. I agree with most of these ratings honestly. Being a hardcore fan I would give it more of a 7.5, but I agree that this album has great moments of creativity and beauty, but also parts that are just meh.
  7. Love Lost! I would say my favourite season is either 1 or 2, both so mysterious and well done without being too gimicky. Who is your favourite TV Character ever?
  8. 1: Politik 2: In My Place 3: God Put A Smile Upon Your Face 4: The Scientist 5: Clocks 6: Daylight 7: Green Eyes 8: Warning Sign 9: Amsterdam AROBTTH: 9 GS: 0
  9. 1 Square One vs Always In My Head (really hard pick) 2.What If vs True Love 3.White Shadows vs Ink 4.Fix You vs Magic 5.Talk vs ASFOS 6.X&Y vs Midnight 7.Speed Of Sound vs Anohter's Arms 8. A Message vs Oceans 9. Low vs All Your Friends 10.A Message vs Ghost Story 11. Swallowed By The Sea vs O 12. Twisted Logic vs Atlas 13. Til Kingdom Come vs O (Reprise) X&Y--10 Ghost Stories---3
  10. ^ It certainly feels like a Coldplay B-side. I personally like the lyrics, the mood, and how the electronics are more balanced with the instruments. It feels really convincing. I think this one would have fit in the album quite nicely for that reason, maybe in place of True Love, though thematically it wouldn't fit.
  11. ^ Alas, you are right. I dream of it happening, and when Midnight dropped in March I thought Ghost Stories would be it! But Coldplay is a alt-rock pop-band at heart now, and I need to accept that fact. They are not on the same artistic level as Radiohead, their goals are not those of Radiohead either.
  12. ^Yes, the album leaked monday when itunes put up on first-play. You can go to itunes now and stream the album in its entirety or find a download at getleaks or many torrents. The Deluxe version has also leaked onto the internet and can be found at getleaks.
  13. Yeah I am not sure what I want at this point. Ghost Stories kind of gave me that nostalgia I was looking for and also moved Coldplay towards an avenue in the electronic world that I was hoping they might avoid. I certainly don't want anymore songs like ASFOS that are trying hard to be mainstream, or songs like True Love where Chris is letting out his steam to a bland synth pop beat. I want to be surprised! Songs like Midnight or A Spell A Rebel Yell or Death Will Never Conquer, these unique tracks that are of completely fresh sound is what I am talking about. Next, I want a balls to the wall electronic binge like Kid A, or if they keep wanting to do this synth pop thing, then something explosive and really quality like Chvrches who do synth-pop better than anyone right now. Hell! I am still waiting for that acoustic folk album featuring Spanish Rain. Anything out of the ordinary that has a full band effort.
  14. haha thanks. Well let's hope everyone is right! perhaps the sheer will of Coldplayer desires can make it a reality :inquisitive:
  15. 1: Don't Panic vs Always In My Head 2: Trouble vs Magic 3:Shiver vs Ink 4:High Speed vs True Love (by a longshot) 5:Sparks vs Midnight 6:Spies vs Another's Arms 7: We Never Change vs Oceans 8: Yellow vs ASFOS (by another longshot) 9: Everything's Not Lost vs O (Fly On) (close call though! Final: Parachutes (7) Ghost Stories (2) Yup! sums up how I feel overall pretty well :wink3: Parachutes in my opinion is a far better album. Maybe it is just nostalgia.
  16. Haha I feel ya!
  17. Whose consensus though? Ours or those with real evidence? I don't want to give my hopes up
  18. :) 42 and Yes are two of my favourite Coldplay tracks ever! :) Just because you have different taste doesn't mean you deserve hate or meanness! I wouldn't worry!
  19. I am excited at the prospect (no pun intended) of this happening. It seems that there has been a lot of speculation, and there was that report that said Ghost Stories will be experimental and dark and then they will come back with a more commercial release. I am calling bull on that report. First of all, Ghost Stories has dark songs, but overall it is an extremely mainstream, commercial and poppy release. That said, I am hoping for an EP by the end of the year. During the Zane Lowe interview Chris mentions that they were working in that studio on "new stuff," and also that the extra target tracks will be released near the end of the summer everywhere? Does that mean we will get a Prospekt's march type EP that includes Ghost Story and All Your Friends is coming? I hope so. Overall I like Ghost Stories, but I was a bit disappointed with a lot of the tracks, so like any selfish fan I already want more :)
  20. AROBTTH (9.5/10) Beautiful album with solid pop rock sing alongs, ballads, acoustics, and alt-rock jams that all flow beautifully from start to finish. There is not a track I dislike. Viva La Vida (9.5/10) Once again, I don't dislike any tracks. Flows beautifully with some massive hits but a few surprises and experimentation: the funky, danceable 42, the shoegaze of Chinese Sleep Chant, the badass guitar and creepy folk jam of Cemeteries. Very distinct and possibly my favourite Coldplay era. Parachutes (9/10) Every track is great, from the hard hitting britpop songs of Yellow and Shiver, to the creepy atmospheres of Spies and High Speed, and finally the mellow, sleepy beautiful tracks. X&Y (8/10) Some of Coldplay's best songs, and some of their so-so's. Love the spacey-electronic, harder hitting guitar tracks, Square One, White Shadows, Talk, Low. Some epic tracks like Fix You, A Message, Til Kingdom Come, all classics. But this album is overlong, and lyrically way too simple and sappy. Underrated? Yes. Some issues though? Definately. Mylo Xyloto (8/10) Coldplay does pop rock like no one else can. Amazing unique production, some of their most layered and colourful work. Hurts Like Heaven, Paradise, Charlie Brown, ETIAW, Major Minus all show Coldplay's ability to still rock but stay modern. Flows incredibly well to tell the story, but a few tracks feel a tad overdone (POC) or half-assed (U.F.O, Up In Flames.) Great record with a few misses. Ghost Stories (7.5/10) Coldplay keeps the pop going with a distinct new sound that is done very well. Lyrics covering break up can be spot on (O, Magic, Oceans, AIMH) but also unbearably simple (True Love, Another's Arms) Great electronics scattered throughout, especially with Midnight, Oceans, and O, but sometimes feel a little contrived or ho-hum, especially in True Love and ASFOS. Overall songs are not as consistently great as other records, though they are very good. The tone of the entire album too, despite being a break up piece, feels a little off, and the criticisms of it being "Chris' solo album," don't feel too far off, considering the band feels less present and more produced than ever.
  21. I guess not! I thought maybe Ink featured those sounds but after listening again it definitely doesn't. Maybe O part two though? If you listen to it, it has similar noises going on.
  22. Ghost Story sounds a bit like Pearl Jam, like a b-side from Viva/AROBTTH. Good, but a B-side. And man, I like the reprise! Why couldn't they just extend that out! I want some atmospheric shoegazey/ xx style instrumentals here for some solid minutes. Come on!
  23. Yeah, these bonus tracks are quite a bit better than some of the tracks on normal Ghost Stories.
