Gwyneth...
And thus ends the rant!

Gwyneth...
I'm not sure the Daily Mail actually qualifies as a newspaper - it's merely a vehicle through which a lot of nasty and narrow minded individuals can spout their dated right wing agenda. The real trauma is that so many people in this country believe its content. Some people even class it alongside broadsheets as a respectable paper, when it is anything but. It's upsetting when it's slurs on Chris and Gwyneth, but it's not dangerous - their fans just pass it off. What is dangerous are the anti-immigration headlines quoting completely unfounded or manipulated statistics, or using a quote from one person and presenting it as fact when in reality it is anything but. But hey, why let facts/moral decency get in the way of spreading an agenda which exacerbates existing prejudices within the country? Words cannot justify my hatred. I don't believe in censoring any opinions or papers, freedom of the press and all that, but this paper (along with the Express, except that's so pathetic most people view it as a joke paper anyway) tries that belief.

Albums that have been released in 2008 that are worth hearing
Guillemots is a lot more accessible, but as always with Elbow records, a few listens and the songs will probably make a greater impression upon you - Guy Garvey's lyrics are fantastic.

Very impressed with The Raconteurs new one, far more consistent than the last. Wouldn't put it up there with others yet though, mainly as I haven't had time to listen enough. Foals - Antidotes British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music? Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid Guillemots - Red They're my best so far.

XFM: "Most exciting Coldplay news you'll hear all year on Monday..."
It will be an exclusive XFM gig, I'd put money on it. They're just hyping it up even more cos they have to from a marketing perspective.

New Album Tracklisting!!
Finally! I'm glad it's 10 tracks, I don't think there'll be a hidden track this time - I think they were probably going to have Death and all his Friends as the hidden track but instead just decided to lump it in the tracklisting. very excited - surely the lead single can only be two weeks or so away from airplay? if it's released the week before the album then that makes it 10th June, and songs usually get about three weeks or more airplay before release, which takes us to about 17th may, so about a month away at most i reckon. fewer if they're fitting two singles in, but i doubt this. prospekt seems to tell us what we want to hear rather than the truth much of the time - same as saying he'd/she'd post the tracklisting within a week of the previous message.

Radiohead
it's brilliant, i haven't checked cos i bought the digipack, but apparently for the download you can choose the price yourself! i can't wait to hear disc 1 in ten days, but will be more intrigued by the whole pack and second disk, especially mk 1 & 2.

Radiohead
I can hardly type. This is absolutely amazing news. It has brightened up the prospect of a bloody hard couple of weeks, with the knowledge that within just 10 days.... gosh. I need to calm down! just preordered the digipack. views on the track listing? so glad 15 step made it, think it will be a brilliant opener.

Travis
i cannot wait. travis have been away for far too long. big chair is a grower, fantastic, and i'm just listening to closer now, and i am loving that, 1st time through. they're not going for the grand effect, it's a bit twee, almost belle and sebastian esque in places, but thats good. in my books anyway. i love the production on the two tracks i've heard so far. nigel godrich comes up trumps again. nx

*The Mighty Boosh appreciation thread*
I've got a mangina!!! Fave song has to be from the tundra episode, fantastic.

Damien Rice
i like the new album, but at times it does seem a bit formulaic, verse, chorus, same verse repeated just louder, chorus, verse repeated louder/with strings etc etc etc. that having said, it does work quite well. i prefer the first though i think. accidental babies is amazing though.

What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
Thirteen Senses - Contact

Tom McRae is my god!!
Tom McRae OK, I was sure a thread already existed but i searched, and nothing so... Anyway, anybody going to see him on the hotel cafe tour, went last night in manchester, was brilliant but wished he had played more of his songs. still, introduced me to some great artists which i guess was the point. and it was very intimate, they came and played a song in the crowd right next to me, which was quite fantastic. also, tom's new album due out early 2007 nx

Damien Rice
i'm extremely hopeful for this album having heard 9 crimes; thought that after his success and re-releases of cannonball etc all popped up and mainstream he might sell out on this record, but 9 crimes couldn't be any further from this. possibly the best thing he has done yet, imo. trying to listen to the whole album but for some reason it wont work for me. Oh well. Nx
-
Sufjan Stevens
i'm off to see him in manchester in november, cannot wait, he is so great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seven swans is his best in my opinion, but illinoise is also superb. i doubt he will complete his album for each state task though, especially if he carries on doing side projects/albums not dedicated to the state project.

Arctic Monkeys!
i loved the album when it first came out, but now i find them a bit annoying to be honest, not as a backlash, i just think there wasn't a lot coming out at the same time as them, but now there is such a good run coming up i have got more excited about that. still, mardy bum is an amzing song riot van original recording was better than the album version though

Artist vs. Artist Game...
Tough. Probably The Beatles.... Travis or Manic Street Preachers?
