Yeah that's true. Being that "extroverted nice guy that everyone likes" sets certain expectations and can really put pressure on someone. But I'm sure Chris must have done some serious soul searching and carefully made certain decisions about his attitude towards life and his relationships to become the man he is today. People who really take the time to search within themselves for their soul and intuition really are the most highly creative, unusual people. I think most people don't really take the time to look. But then there's Chris. You can see his soul tangled up in his music. I wondered what draws people so much to certain bands, or artists sometimes. I don't think it's just the "trends", but more of a change in the wavelength that people seem to be drawn to. In the most technical terms his music really isn't of the highest quality (compared to the legends), but people are still drawn to it. But why is that? Why did they become so popular? Anyone might say that it has to do with the trends they follow, "vague lyrics" and how well one can relate to their songs. Anyone can list the variables and circumstances that were involved in Coldplay's rise to fame, but "there must be something more". As vast as the popular music industry seems, it's actually very small. Very few people get worldwide success, but why? Music that is written genuinely through one's intuition and spirit must be the most attractive then. People can identify when an artist spills out their soul, and they could feel their own pooling up with it. Now I don't know if you could say the same for some other pop artists, but regardless of the quality there must be some sort of weird connection that gets drawn that's unexplainable by science or tangible circumstances.

Cheer up ol' chap. Someday the sun will rise at your end of the world. I guess you felt like you just lost your best friend, your musical best friend. But as always, sometimes friendships take weird turns and that sometimes leads to an inevitable separation. We all grow into different people. The best thing is to move on and look forward. I'm also guessing your pretty envious of their happiness, so if that's the case look at what you have (including other bands) and be thankful for that because it could be worse. Always remember, "In the darkness before the dawn."

I'm glad this thread was made because I have always been interesting in their psychology (if that doesn't sound creepy) and how it affects their music. I'm not a very strong or fearless person myself, and I found it amazing how the band managed to desensitize themselves after all of the emotional turmoil and criticism they faced. I feel like the X and Y era was a critical turning point in their music making career. It was almost like a climax and everything seemed to be barreling down on them at once. I don't know if I'm over analyzing this, but perhaps it emphasizes that whole existential crisis theme hanging around X and Y.

True. With all of those material comforts you would expect him to have a Marie Antoinette-esque personality, but he seems to be more in tune with his surroundings and less naïve than one would imagine. He's an outgoing, natural born leader- a rare case. Man, I could only imagine what kind of deep conversation you could get him into if you knew him well enough. He's probably a lot wiser than he puts himself out to be.

Chris's charm and charisma has always fascinated me. In a dark world like this very few people maintain a seemingly happy outlook. Adults who are able to maintain an unusual amount of empathy and intuitive, dreamy, child like behavior really are special cookies, since that's typically lost due to facing the harsh realities and truths. Even with all of this I can't help but feel like he's going through some internal struggles. I know everyone does, but usually the happiest looking people have some of the darkest, highly introspective thoughts. I even had a dream where I was at Chris's birthday party :/ and his "mom" brought out some pieces of paper that were apparently his childhood suicide notes... I'm not saying that my dream was telling any truths, it was just a reminder to me about "happy masks".

True, we have to see from their side as well and consider all possibilities as to why they took that turn. What if they did because they knew it would screw around with us? Sort of like a "f**k you" to all the critics and the harsh world (us). They knew this would happen and they knew what they were getting into. Maybe they are trying to break the hierarchy of genres that music is set upon. *As much as I like to bash them and make fun of them I tend to be more neutral and I do have the ability to tolerate SOME of their new things.

Lol and yeah I agree. But seriously though Everglow kinda sounds like it could be in High School Musical or something like that. I'm pretty hyped up for that.

If there's any song that I enjoy from AHFOD it has to be Kaleidoscope (the damn filler) and maybe the titular one (U2 mimicry) otherwise I really can't see all the hype. Up and Up and Everglow, the more appreciated songs have some of the most clichéd melodies I have ever heard, especially Everglow. I was hoping for a surprise (I thought about a possible black metal album~Coldmetal? Lol) I sometimes ask myself why I still listen to them and favor them. I'm now more of an avid Radiohead fan than anything. Then I realized that Coldplay is like a black hole. That's why we are still all here.

Another piece of evidence could be his adherence towards electronic music. (Apparatjik) They embrace the unconventional alien/robotic lifestyle.

Maybe he's cyborg-like, with his brain and central nervous system consisting of a combination of advanced futuristic technology and normal human neurons. This neural device controls everything, and probably acts like a "mock immortal gene" ( An existing gene in certain animals, like some microscopic sea life, that allows them to live... Forever). The device significantly slows down the physical aging process.

Well I don't have a childhood photo but I have a very recent one. Behind the scenes images from the AoAL music video. The look on his face tells me that he is very comfortable with this equipment. Also he's known for being kind of a tech geek I think.

I wonder how much evidence backs up the theory that Guy is a robot.

Oh yeah I forgot. Lol But you never know what might actually happen in the future, as far fetched as the possibilities might seem. But my point is that Chris is just different and hard to comprehend by a lot of people.

Interesting speculation. Another reason could be because he just thinks differently from a lot of people. Maybe there's a communication difference that causes issues between him and most people. Maybe Jonny only truly understands Chris's language. *Talk* Maybe one day Chris will give up on all the girls and just stick with Jonny after coming to a sudden realization.
