A total eclipse of the moon tonight is expected to delight skywatchers across the United States and much of the world. It will be the last total lunar eclipse until 2010. The easy-to-watch event will play out in several stages as Earth's shadow blocks sunlight from shining on the moon. Weather permitting, the eclipse will be visible from all locations in the United States, according to NASA. Along the Oregon and northern California coasts, the moon will rise during the early stages of the eclipse, however. When to watch Eclipses occur only at full moon when the sun, Earth and moon are in a perfect line. Because the moon's orbit around Earth is not perfectly al…

Owner Nigel Langsdon has begun an investigation. Ms Watkin said: "I couldn't believe it. The bill read 'fish cakes', which one of us had for a starter, and it was written right above it - absol…

I remember hearing about an independent film a few months ago that I thought sounded quite good, but I totally forgot about it and now can't remember what it was called. It was, I think, about a girl who dies who somehow comes back to life and some guy falls in love with her, or something like that. Sounds terribly depressing but I remember the trailer was really good. I think it was released in 2007 or late 2006. Any ideas?

Proves how idiot-proof this governement is 'Wrong' Newcastle in £2m mix-up The government has overpaid a council by £2m after it got the wrong Newcastle. The money, a reward for promoting local firms, was given to Newcastle Borough Council in Staffordshire instead of Newcastle upon Tyne City Council. The borough council was given more than £2.5m instead of just £600,000 and has been asked to repay the difference. The Department for Communities and Local Government has described the situation as a "regrettable error". Councillor Simon Tagg, leader of the borough council, told BBC News that he was "flabbergasted" at the oversight. "I am shocked tha…

£10 government permit plan to deter smokers A ban on the sale of cigarettes to anyone who does not pay for a government smoking permit has been proposed by Health England, a ministerial advisory board. The idea is the brainchild of the board's chairman, Julian Le Grand, who is a professor at the London School of Economics and was Tony Blair's senior health adviser. In a paper being studied by Lord Darzi, the health minister appointed to oversee NHS reform, he says many smokers would be helped to break the habit if they had to make a decision whether to "opt in". The permit might cost as little as £10, but acquiring it could be made difficult if the forms were suf…

Once again, Chertoff provides no specific details, he simply reminds Americans that they need to remain afraid of phantom terrorists: "If you're asking me what keeps me up at night or what I most worry about -- in the short term, obviously, you worry about homegrown terrorists or somebody coming in with an explosive device or the kind of act of violence or terror that we've act…

The proposed deal got a positive response from writers Leaders of striking US film and TV writers have told their members they have reached a "tentative deal" which could end their three-month strike. "While this agreement is neither perfect or all that we deserve, our strike has been a success," guild members were told in an e-mail. The strike centres on payment for work distributed on the internet. If the unions governing boards back the deal at meetings on Sunday, writers could be back at work on Monday. The row over "residuals" has crippled film and TV production, left other industry workers out of jobs and led to the cancellation of last month's Gol…
