July 23, 200421 yr possibly the greatest guitarist of our time nobody plays guitar like him that i've ever heard radiohead would be half the band they are without him just thought i'd share :wink3:
July 23, 200421 yr His soundtrack score was a bit of a snoozer, though. :P But yes, Jonny is awesome. (I still think the greatest guitarist around right now is Doug Martsch from Built to Spill, though :P )
July 23, 200421 yr yes, he's awesome best guitarist of our time? hmmm.... really not sure about that. he's definitely one of the best, but not sure whether or not I'd say he's the best. he's better with synthesisers and effects than with the guitar, I think. but I absolutely agree that Radiohead wouldn't be anywhere near as good if he weren't in the band.
July 23, 200421 yr Jonny is a great guitarist but I didn't really like Bodysong that much. Radiohead would be nowhere near as good without him but for some reason I just didn't get into his solo stuff :\.
July 24, 200421 yr what about Noel Gallagher... :drunk: ...anyway, yes... J. Greenwood's style is often really similar to Steve Malkmuss, who sang for Pavement. Just thought i'd mention that incase anyone else has noticed that.. :)
July 24, 200421 yr I saw Steven Malkmus and the Jicks last year, opening for Radiohead of all people. :P Just thought I'd point out that little connection. :D
July 24, 200421 yr The Jicks were suppose to open for the Radiohead show I went to last year, but after the venue was changed, so were they. :(
July 26, 200421 yr Johnny is amazing. as for best guitarist of our time, trey anastasio (from phish), tim reynolds, robert randolph (from Robert Randolph and the family band), regi wooten, buckethead, and ben harper are all up there. i really can't rank them.
July 28, 200421 yr johnny is THE SEXIEST and greatest guitarist ever watching him play live just makes you :wink3:
July 28, 200421 yr ok, Johnny is not the best guitarist of all time. It has been scientifcally proven that Jimi Hendrix is, he's by default the best guitarist of all time. And Mike McCready from Pearl Jam comes in second.
July 29, 200421 yr Mike McCready? Don't get me wrong, he's good and everything, but... pfffffff. :P Also, "best guitarists" discussions are pointless by their subjective nature, but I'm going with the following, if we're talking all time: 1. Hendrix 2. George Harrison 3. Dave Gilmour 4. Jimmy Page I value melody and substance over speed and style. :P
July 29, 200421 yr it's probably just because i don't like the type of music he plays, but i think hendrix is completely overated. I really don't like anything i have heard from him, i much prefer Harrison. i agree with melody and substance over speed, although, i'm not 100% sure what you mean by style? :) again, it's probably the music, but i don't like Jimmy Page either
July 30, 200421 yr I think Nick Valensi is better than all those guitarists you guys mentioned. :P Okay, not really, but he's my favourite guitarist right now. His solos are totally wicked, i tell you. But oh yea, Mr. Greenwood is really talented too
August 14, 200421 yr ok' date=' Johnny is not the best guitarist of all time. It has been scientifcally proven that Jimi Hendrix is, he's by default the best guitarist of all time. And Mike McCready from Pearl Jam comes in second.[/quote'] there was no mention of J. Greenwood being the best of ALL time. The topic was of our time. J. Greenwood and J. Hendrix and two seperate generations and I agree that McCready does rule :)
