What's the meaning of some Coldplay songs?

How do you interpret "See you soon"? What do you make of it? I had read people's interpretations on other CP songs a long time ago...I remember one by Eric (I believe) on the song "Amsterdam" and I thought that was very cool....something along the lines that the guy is want to commit suicide and wants his gf to push him over by cutting him loose so the noose can get him...

but i'd really like to know of this one (for now! ;) ). A friend thought of it as the guy being a sniper. His girl is being taken away from him. He's going to see thru the telescope lens, shoot her and then shoot himself...so that he will "see you soon", in the afterlife, that is. This way, the guy is also her friend, because he's going to release her from her misery...he just doesn't want her to lose her trust! What do you think of such an interpretation?

So you lost your trust,

And you never should have,

And you never should have,

But don't break your back,

If you ever see this,

Don't answer that,

In a bullet-proof vest,

With the windows all closed,

I'll be doing my best,

I'll see you soon,

In a telescope lens,

And when all you want is friends,

I'll see you soon,

So they came for you,

They came snapping at your heels,

They come snapping at your heels,

But don't break your back,

If you ever say this,

But don't answer that,

In a bullet-proof vest,

With the windows all closed,

I'll be doing my best,

I'll see you soon,

In a telescope lens,

And when all you want is friends,

I'll see you soon,

I'll see you soon,

I know, you lost your trust,

I know, you lost your trust,

I know, don't lose your trust.

I really don't know you can draw your own conclsions and I guess what ever is personal to you is what they would mean. BTW I love coldplay just in case anyone did not know. !

haha :-)

yes, that's what I am looking for, though. Everyone's personal interpretations...that shows how CP songs touch people in different ways.

I guess the "sniper" interpretation must have stuck in my friend's mind 'cuz just the other day, I'd taken her to the JFK Museum here in Dallas, the place from where he got shot/assasinated in 1963....by a sniper's bullet. :/

Yellow means a lot to me. ! I cant say no more

"bullet-proof vest with the windows all closed" - reminds me of somebody hiding from the police or something

"If you ever see this" - suicide note?

The only problem I have with the "sniper" idea is the line "So they came for you, they came snapping at your heels," because that sounds more like something involuntary on the other person's part, rather than being "stolen" away from Chris or something...

I don't know, I'm usually not very good taking things and giving them literal meanings. :P

hahah

actually, so far, the sniper interpretation has made the most sense to me. who knows...it could be his girl, the one next door...and they are moving and taking her away? ....could be! :idea2:

I read an interpretation that I thought made sense and have modified to fit my own feelings about the song. Basically, the subject of the song is, perhaps emotionally, a shut-in or loner. They're wearing a 'bulletproof vest', 'inside with all the windows closed', afraid to get hurt. They see the outside world not as a participant, but through a 'telescope lens' from a distance. Sounds good to me.

whoa that was me?

awesome

To me, it's like he's gone to war, and he'll be back soon thus 'See You Soon'.

Maybe he gets shot by a sniper and killed, 'Telescope lens'.

Maybe the 'snapping at your heels part' implies the military coming to tell her about his death?

I dunno, i think im just grasping at straws, Chris is sooo deep.

hahaha Eric...yeah...that's cool

KMHP...that's nice one. Thanks!

how about other songs? nobody ever wonders about their meanings? :/

All the time! Martin's lyrics aren't often too cryptic. Yes, they're well written, but he's usually writing about love or relationships, which makes it easier to interpret. Obviously there are exceptions. ;)

we all have our own meanings for each, and thats the ways songs are supposed to be anyway

i dunno i always thought its about getting away from the assholes of the world (to put it bluntly) and just hiding away in your own little bubble, protected (hence the bulletproof vest and the windows being closed). you know when the whole world gets too much, you'll have this person who'll always be there for you, in this case, its chris, or his persona in this track at least.

erm yeah, thats my perspective. prob reflects what i feel as well :(
