September 15, 201015 yr This is definitely their second strongest album, after Turn on the Bright Lights. Pitchfork is only panning it because it's not part of the "chillwave/drone" stuff that they're pushing at the moment. If this was released around the same time as Antics, it would probably score about a 8.9 or 9.0 with a BNM tag. One of my favorite releases of the year. Probably in my top five year-end.
September 22, 201015 yr I absolutely LOVE the S/T album. I am so thrilled, after being disappointed by OLTA. I will say it took multiple listenings to absorb it all. Everytime I listen, I hear something else. This was meant to be heard from beginning to end, using a good pair of headphones, following a relationship as it breaks down. Paul really laid himself bare with this one. Also, I ordered the Japanese release and I have to say the Gavelin is excellent. I was gutted when I heard it was Cubed/Mascara without lyrics because the lyrics & Paul's delivery of that classic are amazing. But Gavelin works great as an instrumental. In fact, I think it makes a perfect closer for The Undoing. Will be seeing them for the 3rd time this tour in November. Can't wait.
September 22, 201015 yr good to see that their true fans love this album. personally i think it's a very good effort from the band. each song stands up very well in its own way but i cant help but feel that as a whole the album falls short. on their first 3 albums ( i love all 3, not sure why theres so much hate on OLTA) the band created some great indie post rock but also managed to create a lot of "moments" on their albums, moments which really made you sit up while listening. unfortunately on this album those moments are few and far between. Lights and Barricades are stunning tracks and Summer Well is most certainly underrated. But then you have songs like Safe Without which are truly brilliant but just go for a minute too long and my mind begins to wonder and even though the band may have made that mistake on previous albums, other songs revived it. that just doesnt happen here. nevertheless interpol are a group of supremely talented musicians, and people with such immense talent will always deliver great music. this album is most certainly one of the better albums of the year but unlike their earlier efforts it isnt one of the best of the year.

Funny, I experience the album the exact opposite. I think the total is way stronger that its parts. I want to hear it from start to finish and I don't cherrypick through tracks like I do with the others. Also, I don't hate OLTA. In fact, it contains some of my favorites: Pioneer, Pace & Lighthouse. But I do find myself skipping the rest of the album. I tried so hard to love it because Interpol have been my favorite band since the early days.
