I dislike how people expect bands like Interpol to just release the stuff that they made before.

 

The album is much darker and looms over you. Banks does an awesome job and I can never rate any bands albums from best to worst when all of them have such different dynamics.

I agree that TOTBL could very well remain Interpol's top masterpiece, and I'm okay with that, but I thought Antics was also of very high quality, and neither of these past two albums have been nearly as good as it. Granted, I like this new one better than OLTA (on which I liked maybe two tracks), but it's not quite up there with Antics after about 3 listens so far. Favorite tracks are probably "Barricade" (catchy, reminiscent of Slow Hands), "Always Malaise" (captures the "dark" vibe better than any other song), and "Try It On". I'll listen to this thing more times but I can't help but feel it could have been better still...

Yeah I was.

the first time I tried to listen to the new album I couldn't finish because I didn't like the first songs. I'll do it again soon, I really like Interpol and I hope it was just a bad day to listen to their new stuff.

^absolutely EPIC live....... the sound gets a little muffled as the drums and bass really kick in. I think my camera has some sort of noise reduction thingy. So annoying :( but you can still feel the song building to its climax which is why this song is EPIC live :)

I haven't heard it.... but from what I have read on the Interpol MB is that it is Mascara/Cubed but with no lyrics... its an instrumental...... available only on the Japan release as of now... BUT Daniel said in a recent web chat that it will be made available in the US....

Interpol and Vampire Weekend are playing in Portugal in November.. but i can only go to one of the gigs .. i cant decide wether to go see Interpol live or Vampire Weekend :\

 

The thing is that i never really listen to Interpol nor VW .. so please tell me honestly.. what do you prefer?

ur a pearl jam fan right? i think you would prefer interpol then. vampire weekends music is a lot of fun but doesnt have the same substance that interpols does.

it's the true Interpol fans that know what they like, and they accept everything isn't going to be TOTBL

I'm listening to it on their myspace page, and I actually quite like it. It's more mature, holistically structured, and I find myself really empathizing with his voice. The feel of the instruments is beautiful and the composition of the songs gives a great sense of space which I didn't get with the last two albums.

Bought the album yesterday. I've been listening to it...and it sounds great to me. SO far Barricade and The Undoing are my favorites, but it will take some time before other songs stand out to me.
