Artwork Mystery Revealed! Sort of....

Featured Replies

Ahhh dude your topic title is misleading! That doesn't reveal much. I looked up "Concrete Art" in google though and got some weird results, one was this. Very much like the stuff Chris wears on this fingers, but that doesn't solve anything?

I don't get how it even relates to math.

there we go, changed the title......but its interesting i think

dont you know Concrete Art???????????

a bit of history:

CONCRETE ART:"Concrete Art: This designation was introduced in 1930 by Theo van Doesburg. He and a number of like-minded painter friends founded a group and magazine by that name in order to give a programmatic as well as firm theoretic basis to the new artistic conceptions which up until that time had appeared under the most contradictory nomenclature -one spoke (and still does today) of absolute, non-objective, non-representational, abstract, and finally of 'entirely abstract' art." (Margit Staber, Concrete Painting as Structural Painting, in Structure in Art and in Science, G. Kepes, editor, p. 165).

ill try to find some interesting site about concrete art... :idea2:

First page of Google results has got a couple of good links on it. But I'm sure you've found that out already

All sounds a bit prentitious to me. But at least the artwork looks nice.

The Sun is a worthless dumb-ass piece of shit newspaper and the above statement just proves that !

but so the whole thing about a mystery behind it may be bollocks?

so did Coldplay themselves ever say anything about a mystery or is it all just speculation ?

pretty cool, huh? :)

 well smart. like it a lot. looks like a stained glass window.

I think there is a message in there.. we all could plainly see the MTF logo.. and the fact that the black and white are on top.. has to mean something..

I;ll be patient.. :smug:

That sounds pretentious as hell.

I love pretention.

That's no Concrete Art, that's "de Stijl" I think :/

Anyway I think that newspaper is wrong, there's gotta be some hidden message.

Yes, she did, that's why that newspaper is wrong :P

Not really. I just think the entire thing is pretentious, and everyone who is going along with it and praising it is just another sheep of the Coldplay herd. I love Coldplay, but putting obscure artforms on your album cover has a level of snobbiness to it. I love art, and I loved the cover to AROBTTH, but this is a bit much.

strange that you don't like it considering your username :)

Isn't it just as snobbish to judge an album cover's artwork so seriously? I mean, come on.

I think 90% of the reason the decided to go with this oddball cover has to do with the fact that it's easily recognizable, even from a distance. Think about Parachutes and Rush of Blood's covers - you could spot them a mile away, even among all those other CDs at Best Buy! This is a marketing strategy that relies on two things - a sense of mystery and irreducable complexity.
