Progression from Parachutes (and before) to X&Y

Featured Replies

Im interested in how youd describe how Coldplay has changed over the albums :) Id say its from acoustic-ish vocal/piano focused songs to more guitar and ethereal sound focused songs...

(I hope Im not making a double topic)

I can't wait until they get into their "experimental stage" in recording. :D

yeah! like radioheads Kid A :)

But Coldplay doesn't exactly follow Radioheads album order.

If so it would have been like this:

Parachutes = The Bends (acoustic with guitars and vocals)

RoBttH = OK Computer (a mix of very, very good songs)

X&Y = Kid A (The experimental album)

Regardless of 1to1 album symmetry, I think X&Y is the OK Computer ERA. They're semi-experimenting (Square One...with the spacey feel). :D

X&Y is Coldplays experimental album but they will always focus

on whats popular as they don't want to loose their fans that

are really into "Acoustic Glasto sing along Coldplay"

i think they have transitioned into a U2 esqe

more guitar based, 80's, synth band on this album hehe

Get me and the words I used there! :P

I think it's too bad that they are focusing on what is popular with their fans as you say. I'd love to hear something really different from them, as much as I like what they have done so far.

I whole heartfuly agree I like it when bands just branch out

and do something that some poeple dislike and that would

question a fans perspective because it shows if their fan base

will stay with them no matter what and if they will

grow with the band also.

I am willing to hear "thrash Coldplay" anyone else? hehe j/k

Don't worry, they will. They're going to do what The Beatles did.

Put out a lot of great singles, suck everybody in, then release the super experimental stuff! :D I can't wait.

When do you think they will do that, release experimental stuff?

I can't wait too, I think X&Y is just luring us in

until something mad and amazingly new hits us hehe

When do you think they will do that' date=' release experimental stuff?[/quote']

I think that is all dependant on Chris Martin's

self confidence he over analyses too much and

may just stick to what he knows it may take

another album yet, who knows he may proove

me wrong!

Well, The Beatles released 8 CD's that you could classify as "normal"

Then they released Sgt. Peppers, and it was a little different than others before, then The White Album, Yellow Submarine, and Magical Mystery Tour.

Drugs were an influence. Knowing that, I take it back. I don't think Coldplay will do the experimental stage. They're too damn straight-edge! :D

The Beatles have always been remembered for

their experimental stuff so I hope Coldplay will

sit back and take a look at other bands and

think...

"Lets just go crazy and write nonsence and

hope it works" :D

yeah, i'm just crossing my fingers now. it's tough to make crazy music if you're not under the influence. :(

Unless you are yourself crazy! :idea2:

hehehe and Chris is sometimes quite crazy aww bless

if coldplay made a kid A/Amensiac* I would be one happy man

I just wonder what kind of subject they would pick to sing about

I hope they don't do a radiohead I hope

they do something compleately different

As they are very different bands

I hope they don't do a radiohead I hope

right now they are anyway :D i really feel they're the Beatles of the 2000's, as Radiohead was the 90's (and still going) and the Beatles of the 60's.

history always repeats itself.

wiReZ you are a funny dude.... I think X & Y will be more experimental than coldplay's other stuff, but, as some have said, experimental in a safe way that won't alienate current fans.... I think that the band eventually will reach that really experimental stage tho... keep in mind that Politik was the most experimental song on AROBTTH and it was the bands favorite song off the album.. Similarly, Square One is the song Chris seems most confident in on this album... Basically, the band takes pride in the "weirder'" more experimental tracks

wiReZ you are a funny dude....
just kind of excited about this. i was talking to my really good friend about this (who doesnt like coldplay half as much as i do). it's good to vent it out with people that can actually understand :)

Another thing... Would any of you like to hear the 'old X&Y' material? Or not? (coldplay minus band spirit = ?)

what do you mean? assuming they do go experimental? would i listen to thier old stuff? of course. just like the beatles, i listen to all of it. if that's what you're asking :)

oh that's what i hope they do someday... to get experimental and kind of pregressive, it would just be great :)
