Manic Street Preachers

Featured Replies

Hey everyone... I'm not a big Manics Fan (I only no the singles but they are mostly very very good).. I've only got the "Lifeblood" Album but this is sooo f***ing great. I mean... I love those melodies and those music and lyrics. It's really great. Does anyone here knwos if there is a further single planned? I would love to release "1985"... amazing song.

I also heard that "Lifeblood" sounds a little bit different from other Manics LP's. Is that true? Because I really like the sound of that record. Any other Manics LP you could recommend me

The Manic Street Preachers can really be split into 3 main time periods, that do overlap slightly:

<1994 - punk rock - often dealing with politics and/or personal trauma

1995-2003 - indie rock - far more mainstream, the most famous albums, Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, have the singles most people know. The latter Masses Against The Classes single and Know Your Enemy were almost a return to their roots but in a more experimental way

2004-? - Synth pop such as Lifeblood. This is most likley the future of the band and is quite a drastic deparure from their previous stuff. I'm not best qualified to comment on this one as I didn't really enjoy it all that much. Having said that, the songs Empty Souls, Solitude Sometimes Is and 1985 are great though.

If you'd like some samples of their previous albums, drop me a line: rodgerdavies at gmail.com

thanx for that information... a friend of mine got the "this is my truth" album... so this is gonna be my next one :)

I like those synthie sounds from "Lifeblood" really... but I also know the past of the band... I think a lot of fans don't like it when a indie rock bands starts to sound like a Pop band... but "Lifeblood" is great anyway :)

My recommendation..... if you're going to get any Manics album, it's GOT TO BE the Holy Bible. Every single song is so brilliant. This might just be 'cause i'm a huge fan of old-school (late 70s) punk, but being in this shit-hole known as North America (and watching the store Clerk spelling Manics with a "K"), I've only just bought the 10th Anniversary Edition of it. The DVD was a very nice touch! A definite Must-Have!

The Holy Bible is fantastic, but I dunno if that's the first thing you should get when you love the synthie stuff. I'd actually recommend Everything Must Go, it's not synthie pop, but the musical clash isn't as extreme.

If you like punkish music, though, get The Holy Bible. :D

I'd agree with Everything Must Go.

how's this sound?

Kind of sad, that the Manics actually didn't want to promote the "lifeblood" album with a 3rd single... but "1985", "Solitude Sometimes is" or "Glasnost" would be great singles. I really love that record

So there will be no 3rd single?

I was thinking that the other day, for a short period of time the record was promoted, and then... nothing. :stunned:

anyone gonna send an envelope to the manics thingy to get the new ep?

I was considering it but I bet by now they've already got enough.

3 days till I see them in Leeds!!!

WWWWOOOOOOAAAAAAHHHHHHH

Now THAT was fun. We got IfWhiteAmericaToldTheTruth...... & Archives Of Pain too, superb. Probably the best gig I've been to to date.

you're in London, go along to Hammersmith either tonight or tomorrow if you can afford it.

ahhhh *sniff* well, maybe I'll get to see Idlewild today at least :P

Just downloaded the new ep. Oh and I sent an envelope yesterday cos I wasn't sure how quickly they get 1500 envelopes. Here's hoping for an ep. lol :idea2:

I had my God Save The Manics EP from the London gig, it's ace. Firefight has grown on me and Secret Society is really good. The EP is a different sound from Lifeblood - more EMG era.
