X&Y is a decent album for me, so far. Pretty good.

 

Overall I feel it's far too overblown and far too self-aware.

 

Of course it has high points, and I'm not saying I hate it, because that's untrue.

 

Just, "overblown and self-aware" is what I think of if I try to give it a mood... just like I'd call Parachutes very sincere and open. Small-scale.

 

Make sense?

I don't like the lyrics to the begining of Swallowed in the sea. They sound like...kindergarden poetry somehow.

I think it's simplistic and if a band always

are analysts of lyrics they become too

misunderstood

there's simple and then there's amature and that's how swallowed by the sea comes off to me (hey, i rhymed as well as chris martin there).

 

i love coldplay, but i can't defend that song.

I dont like it either. It ryhmes to much. The whole song does.

 

After sating that I have listened to swallowed by the sea again and I actually like it know :)

I'm with you there... Still coming to terms that this album isn't what I thought it'd be and that there's loads to pick at... It's hard.

 

I just recently got the Doves' Some Cities and OK Computer and've been listening to them... Was saying how these are better until my sister pointed out that I've double standards when it comes to my fav band :o Then I realised how true that was... Apart from the obvious over-production and being less immediate in drawing the listener in, X&Y is a good album... It's still one of the few I can listen to over and over again without a song I totally have to skip, and one where there's still new aspects about it to discover each time one listens

there is only one thing i don't like about X&Y.......Swallowed In The Sea :lol:

But, one thing annoys me, a lot. That thing is the really ugly sounding guitar, in the second verse of The Hardest Part. It kicks in at about 01:49. It sounds too raw, too off and too darned ugly. It ruins a beautiful and groovey song. Good that it gets great again when it goes back to the chorus, but still.

And the rhythm of "Clocks", it's on "A Message" and "Square One"... Why didn't they used another rhythm???? Just another.

some of the songs endings really leave me waiting for more... i don't like white shadows' ending, even though the rest of the song kicks. it's just too abrupt. and low kind of just dissapears to me, too.

The lyrics. It sounds so much like Chris Martin has just gone 'Hmm...what rhymes with that? The first thing that pops into my head...' on some of the tracks.

 

I don't like the way the vocals are sung in the first part of 'X&Y', lines like "When something's broken and you try to fix it" make me cringe because at the end of each line he just drags on the note for another syllable EACH time and I HATE it when songs do that!

The thing that I don't like about this album is that Chris' voice doesn't sound like a man's in most of the songs... it's like a little boy's voice.. or like a kitten, LOL

everything sounds so fluffy - the record has no bite. plus, the one thing that separated Coldplay from every other band until X&Y was EMOTION. There is no emotion on this record. It will never grab hold of me the way Parachutes and especially AROBTTH did.
