Burningmonk. Don't worry about Evan. He seems a little creepy right-wingy to me ;)

hahaha.....creepy right wingy???? I don't follow any political party in particular...so no..I'm not right or left wingy...more independent. Not everyone who want's to preserve western culture is right wing you know.....at least I hope thats not the case... ;)

Right wing was just the way you seemed to me Evan. You seem anti-arab and all for police shooting to kill under shady circumstances.

ahhemm.......how many times do I have to emphasize this....I am talking about a belief..the radical islamic terrorist mindset. People from all different races can hold to this belief...Although most people who subscribe to this radical form of islam are arab, I am not anti-arab in any way shape or form or anti any other ethnic group for that matter. I am however against this radical islamic mindset that preaches hate and intolerance of any belief but islam.

All I want to know is why I got told off for what I said.

The fact is you never hear anything about the radical jews or Christians though...

becasue you said that, right after I had posted about how horrible the crusades were...Why does it always seem that if you speak out against something, that you have to speak out against every other horrible thing in history at the same time so people don't get offended. Of course horrible things have been done in the name of every religion there is. That doesn't mean that they were following that particular religions teachings. They were just doing it in the name of a religion.

shot 8 times in the head, after being restrained.

he was only wearing a light denim jacket, not a heavy padded one that they originally reported.

"The leaked documents now suggest the Brazilian had walked into Stockwell Tube station, picked up a free newspaper, walked through ticket barriers, started to run when he saw a train arriving and was sitting down in a train when he was shot"

I hope we get the truth. :/

So confusing...

The shooting of Mr de Menezes was followed by weeks of misleading information from the police. Here we catalogue how the truth behind the tragedy has gradually emerged...

FICTION: In the immediate aftermath of the shooting on July 22 Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said, in words that could come back to haunt him, that the shooting was 'directly linked' to terrorist operations. Many observers took this to mean that the dead man was a terrorist.

TRUTH: Hours after Sir Ian's bold statement, anti-terrorist officers established that the shot man was completely innocent.

FICTION: It was claimed that Mr de Menezes had emerged from a property under surveillance by anti-terrorist officers.

TRUTH: The property turned out to be a block of flats and officers were not sure which apartment the 'suspect' had come from. Assumptions were made that he was a suspected suicide bomber.

FICTION: Initially, it was suggested that Mr de Menezes looked like one of the fugitives and that he was wearing suspiciously bulky winter clothing.

TRUTH: It is now accepted that he was merely wearing a denim jacket.

FICTION: Police sources said Mr de Menezes had vaulted over a ticket barrier at Stockwell station to escape police pursuers.

TRUTH: It has now been established that the Brazilian used a pre-pay Oyster travel card to go through the ticket barrier.

FICTION: According to some reports, Mr de Menezes ran down to the platform at South London Tube station.

TRUTH: Witness statements now make it clear that the Brazilian walked to the train.

FICTION: Police were said to have identified themselves before opening fire.

TRUTH: The leaked documents suggest that officers did not properly identify themselves and ask Mr de Menezes to surrender.

Mistakes happen....people should move on and if the investigation finds that the police were in the wrong then they should be punished. Regardless..there are still terrorists that are plotting new attacks and they must be found and brought to justice.

Regardless Evan, this kind of police action is unacceptable. It creates a bad precedent.

police should not be thinking "lets shoot him and stop him and then find out if he really was guilty or on to something"

dont we have rights???? shooting to somebody only based on suspisions its fucken shit--cause suspisions are not always correct

yep.suspicions aren't always correct. Like I said...the incident should be investigated and if the police are found guilty they should be punished. If tazers were allowed it would also make it alot easier for law enforcment so that they would not have to resort to lethal force. Here in the USA tazers are used and it has saved many lives. Also...don't run from the police.....Of course if I didn't continue someone would post saying that the brazilian victim didn't run. I don't know if he did or not but it's a smart thing not to run from the police.. :D

Trigger happy cops are a bloody disgrace!

In the instance in London I think the cops have

made many cover up's over this story! Such as...

1) He was wearing a rucksack - He wasn't

2) He was running away - He only ran to catch a train

and where is the CCTV tape as they were all fully working.

scary if they shoot before asking question!

anyone with dark skin and black hair could be a target.

only to the "Gold Bag Lady Biatch!" :smug:

Terror tape proves need for tougher laws: Howard

02:31 AEST Tue Sep 13 2005

AFP

The videotape purportedly showing an al-Qaeda militant warning that the city of Melbourne would be the target of a terrorist attack underlined the need for tough new security laws, Prime Minister John Howard has said.

The tape obtained in Pakistan by the US television network ABC shows a masked man speaking with an American accent threatening attacks on Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia's second biggest city.

"Yesterday, London and Madrid. Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne," said the man, believed to a wanted US national, Adam Gadahn, who appeared in another threatening tape about year ago.

Howard, speaking on arrival in New York for a United Nations summit, said the tape "only serves to remind us of the changed world in which we now live as a result of terrorist attacks.

"It underlines emphatically the need for a further strengthening of the domestic law in Australia," he told Australian journalists.

Howard last week announced plans for new security legislation, including detention without charge for up to two weeks and electronic tagging of suspects, which have been criticised by civil liberty groups.

"No government can credibly guarantee there will be no terrorist attack in his or her country but we can commit ourselves as we have done to do everything we can to strengthen our domestic capacity to stop terrorist attacks occurring in the first place," Howard said.

He urged Australians to support next year's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne despite the possibility that the huge sporting event could be a terrorist target.

"The best response to things like this is to redouble our protective efforts, which we are doing, but also to get on with life, which we are also doing," he said.

"The Commonwealth Games will be a great event for Melbourne and I know the people of Melbourne will support the Commonwealth Games with the enthusiasm that they normally do for any major sporting event.

A police spokesman for Victoria state, where Melbourne is located, said the games would raise Melbourne's profile.

"Certainly the Commonwealth Games is going to be one of the greatest and largest gatherings of sports people that has ever been undertaken and just from that particular perspective it certainly puts Melbourne in the spotlight."

Australian authorities were seeking to obtain a copy of the tape for analysis, he said.

Attorney General Phillip Ruddock said Australia was taking the threat seriously.

"I take every act of this sort seriously, it could be a hoax, but it could be very serious," he said.

"We're obviously aware of the existence of the video. Until it's been viewed, we can't speculate on the contents as to what it may mean."

Sydney, Australia's largest city, had been considered the most likely target for attack by Islamic radicals, who have singled Australia out because of its close alliance with the United States.

btw i love your sig!

is Betrand Russell a philosopher/writer?

It's sad how now almost every country threatened by terrorists wants to take the opportunity to bring itself closer towards a police state... It wasn't so long ago that this country (and some others) was criticised for being undemocratic by having laws that allowed the detention of people without charge. I just feel cynical and sad about this state of things...

Where have all the beliefs about civil liberty and "innocent until proven guilty" gone? Whither privacy laws? Or did they all disappear the moment it became apparent that we are vulnerable terrorist targets after all? So much hypocrisy and double standards, and that makes me sick...

Or were you all really so naive as to think that there were no grounds for some lawful, democratic countries to still retain liberty-limiting 'draconian laws' to maintain public safety?

  • 3 weeks later...

Oh Thanks Kekita...sorry it to me so long to respond..I've been pretty busy with school. Politicians here do the same thing...the terrorists threaten to attack and then the politicians take away more civil liberties wich is what the terrorists want anyway. Bertrand Russell was a philosopher. Although I don't agree with most of his positions I thought it was a pretty cool quote. :)
