That entire show was hard to watch. Coldplay wasn't great, but they definitely didn't suck.

i think the major problem was the sound overall. i dont know if you guys noticed but only the rock bands sounded horrible. rap and stupid stuff like that sounded "good". VMA's suck!!!!!!!! :huh:

Well maybe I didn't miss much then. I wanted to see Coldplay in the worst way. Did they play Speed? and how were they dressed?

Coldplay was the only good part of the VMAs. Everything else was lame. Yes, they played SOS. They were dressed in black like they always are. Did anyone else notice they cut a verse out of SOS? If that was to give more time to the rap stuff, I'm really mad.

MuchMusic awards are alway great....hope they play them too. :cool:

well rap artists music is just played over the speakers, acoustics are going to be different with live instruments

I was so disappointed to see that rock'n'roll isn't part of MTV anymore... All that pre-show was just a big crap! I HATE RAP, Hip-Hop and all those who pretend enjoying it just because it's cool.

 

Regarding Coldplay's performance... let's be honest.. it was bad. Chris's voice couldn't get on the right pitch. SOS is a tough song to sing though...

 

Anyway, that's my 2%. Would like to hear from you too. Peace,

That was a terrible performance. I don't blame Coldplay, I blame MTV. First of all they have that clown Pharrell introduce them, the set sucked (whack lighting) and you could hardly hear. Also they cut it way too short. BOO!

listen people-----rock has never been big in MTV---and its cause mtv fills their shows with whats hip at the time---and lets face it---atleast here in US---hiphop, r&b, rap, and all that is bigger than rock

 

but atleast rock is being more recognized than before-----i mean there were 4 rock performances and greenday won in many of the nominations--including the main one-------i remember when only one rock band use to perform or maybe even two

 

the whole show sucked anywho---except for Coldplay, Greenday, My chemical romance, and Killers----------oh and shakira :P

I actually think that rap, etc is on it's way out. Really, at my school classic rock/indie rock has been getting so much more popular. I shouldn't judge the rest of the country by my shitty little school, of course, but still. EVERYONE in my school was so into hip hop (except me, of course! :smug: :P ) about 2 years ago. Suddenly no one seems interested. And we all noticed the empty seats at the VMAs. I believe that MTV is just continueing with this false image that hip hop is still "at large" when really, it isn't. Maybe it's because the hip hop artists pay more to get on TV, or a different one gets shoot each month and makes for great television.

 

But really, I think that as for peoples real musical passion, it's coming back to rock. ROCK IS NOT DEAD! :lol:

nah---i still think hiphop and r&b are bigger and until rock music is in a big lead----mtv and the rest of the world will keep having hiphop above rock

 

although--i think rock is quality music :P

didn't think that was the bands best performance of the song, the sound mix wasn't right either. i thought they were going to play fix you, maybe it was too long

 

still, i expect they were better than anyone else there

 

they were really good at the 2003 event.

Ok i saw it, have to say coldplay were ok but the killers and green day i thought were great. I dont think they sucked though (as some might say) the audience looked bare though and they have to save their energy for the fans on their tour.

Well it wasn't their best performance of SOS but it isn't their fault, something was wrong with the mic or the tech..it was quite OK by the way..I didn't like that when Chris went up the stairs and the people exulted behind him.... And just to point on a good part of it, you could hear Guy sing cause his voice was a bit louder..I liked that :D

it depends on where you live! an_cat where are you located? because at my school everyone is into rap and hip-hop. its all they talk about. i would say that theres only a 6% that like indie-punk rock, which are usually my friends, a 10% that think that their gothic and dark, and a 3% of poppy bubble gum music followers. :sneaky:

East coast, Rhode Island. I mean there's still quite a few wanna be ghetto people, but I live in a VERY white, catholic, republican town ( :rolleyes: Much to my chagrin :confused: ) and it just seems like everybody's getting more into the Beatles and Zeppelin. Especially down in the middle school, which is a good thing to see. Nice to know there are SOME smart youngin's comin' up! :P

Rocks always been a big thing in the uk, but i remember when i was in school the big thing was Garage and all that underground stuff...

 

EVERYONE used to listen to it and i used to like stereophonics and got called grunge and shit, so i started to pretend but then coldplay came along and i coudlnt deny it...i was a rock chic...

 

But i know people in my old school still listen to garage...it is all about

now im in uni its different, people are into rock, i think as you get older your taste in music gets better :P :D

Mtv sort of always had a good amount of hip hop, but seriously I can remember a few years back, turning on Mtv in the morning while getting ready for school, just to listen to the music videos... and I can't even do that anymore because now its ALL rap and hip hop.. and then randomly Kelly Clarkson or something.

 

My school is really big into rap and hip hop too... but then again, I live in "The OC".. and this place is kind of weird :/

Johnny B. was nowhere to be heard. At least, I didn't hear him in the mix at all during the broadcast. I think, when Chris couldn't hear the guitar, he felt uncomfortable with that empty space that shouldn't have been there. I'm not positive about this, but I watched the clip at MTV.com and they had recut the performance from their footage. It was different than the live broadcast. And, the audio mix was changed as well. There definitly was a weird air to that scene.

I hate that they didn't win for SoS; did they play in the middle stage? I like them so much, I don't much care for any of the others.

Speed of sound might just be coldplays worst song, Its nice and all but I feel nothing when I hear it. Their performance at the VMA's was forgettable. They should have busted out swallowed in the sea or white shadows. Oh well.

It was lame, maybe its just me :sick:

The VMA's were awful this year.

 

Even Coldplay were disappointing.

They really should've played 'Fix You' instead.
