That means the music has very limited appeal!! :D

Not really ;)

Yes - definitely. It's far too hard and heavy for your "general" music fan!! :smug:

And so much German music seems to be like that.

Maybe it's because they have stepped away from mainstream music..

I don't know why, but there has always been a tendency towards "hard and heavy" in Germany.

Take their dance music for example - it's exactly the same. All trancey and techno.

Dance music in the U.K. is far more soul-orientated............................as it is in the States, too. Far better.

Maybe it's because they have stepped away from mainstream music..

Yes. You got it ;)

When I search for new good music, I look always apart the mainstream chart music ..

Well, that does not mean, that I don't listen to mainstream. But actually, most bands placed in the music charts are shitty ..

Don't understand me wrong. ;)

But every country has its talented bands ^^

And one thing about "hard 'n heavy". Don't know if I understand you right (because of my english *g*) .. but german music can also be hard 'n heavy ...

I think you'll find that Rammstein were NEVER part of mainstream music - ALWAYS hard and heavy. That's what they are - and it's never going to have broad appeal.

So whats the problem?

They definitly got skill, too. And their music is not bad.

Do they have to be mainstream?

And another thing - it isn't how talented you are that counts. It's what you DO with that talent that matters. Someone told me the other day that Wolfgang Petry is actually a very talented musician - but what he produces is absolute garbage!!

There's nothing wrong with hard and heavy...

If you're into that sort of thing, it's fine - but it's always going to be too extreme for the majority of people.

Ditto punk and goth.

Just believe me when I say that Wolfgang Petry is not popular in germany anymore. He's dead, when you want to ..

You could say the same thing about Coldplay. Vise versa of course though...

That's not what I've heard!!

And what I can't believe is how he could ever have been popular in the first place.

It shows an unbelievable lack of taste!

And one thing: You said "It's what you DO with that talent that matters."

Well, the management around Rammstein don't "hype" them anymore.

They have their fans, and good. The same as other bands ..

We could also have only hard and heavy music rotating in the majorities cd players, but as long as the music labels and the new media (TV and magazines, etc..) hype another teeny pop band or ringtone music, there's no chance ...

Understood me?

Coldplay's music is accessible to a lot of people because it isn't in any way extreme. THAT's the difference.

You could say the same about Pink Floyd, The Beatles, U2 or even The Rolling Stones.

They all have one thing in common: BROAD appeal.

helge schneider is one of the best musicians in germany same with Götz alsmann..

I second the Alsmann thing.. he's a good bloke. :D

"Talkin' bout the musician qualities from Aggro Berlin is like looking for the advantages of an AOL internet connection!" :D
