German music....

Featured Replies

Which band is great and which is not depends still (thanks god for that) on everyone's point of view alone. So I think this discussion is unnecessary ;-)

No, there are lots of bands which could be described as "great", but none of those German ones mentioned could ever be put in that category.

Grönemeyer possibly could be, as he is a good songwriter and doesn't make "noise".

I have respect for him. :D

So then, who puts bands in the category "Great"?

God? George W. Bush? The Queen? You?

I think, this does everyone for himself...

Well you've listed THREE of the greats in your sig, so you must know something!!

Don't know the Beatsteaks, I'm afraid!!

:P

I give it up ..

Everybody has it's on point of view .

For me, there are german bands, that I would mention as "great".

Xavier Naidoo has a great voice .. but I don't like his music ..

Die Ärzte have great live performances and so on .. but they make german punkrock, so no music for you!

....

You can go on and on...

Beatsteaks ARE great :D :D

no, thats not true

Well, that's true, of course, these are my "greatest Bands", the Beatsteaks aren't great in your definition though, cause they are german and punk ;-)

But maybe we can make a world-poll:

Everyone aged over 12 in the world lists it's 5 favourite bands, we count the results and those, who got the most votes get listed in the "Greatest bands"-list. This would be fair and democratic. But I'm afraid those people from asia, which are approx. the half of the world's population, will shift the results to some unknown local bands, but who cares, I'll start printing the Poll-sheets... 5,5 billion to go... ;-)

"Favourite" has nothing to do with it, as there are far too many people out there who are clueless!! :P

So, as they are clueless, the may hear hard and heavy music, too.

Then, it's a decision of the media, which play the music, that they "clueless" ears hear ...

If they play hard and heavy, they will hear hard and heavy ..

If they play techno, they hear techno ...

The influence of the media ;)

No, because you should be clued up enough not to believe all the media hype. There are far too many "sheep" around - that's the problem!

You should be able to listen to anything with an open mind, without allowing yourself to be influenced by the media.

i think this discussion is senseless :snore:

Yes.

@ mc_squared:

And thats the problem!

Many people doesn't are clued enough ... :P

As is the vast majority of German music!! :P

Wow, was the comparison with the Pink Flyod-song "Sheep" intended? If yes, applause :-)

Now THAT I agree with!! They were indeed pioneers. I loved OMD, and they were strongly influenced by KraftWerk (you missed out the "w").

I particularly liked "The Model" and "Tour De France"!! :D

QWell don't know that much by them...I know "Wir sind die Roboter" for example and I really like it....I read things about music history and they were always mentioned!

there another really good rock band from Munich.

ALEV - that means "Flame" and is also the first name of their singer - she is Turkish. Their sound is definitely (alternative) rock, no ballads except one, but the voice is just beautiful. Maybe somebody wants to check out their debut album "We Live In Paradise" - but if you do, please skip the first track, you could get a bad experience of the band cuz the first song is instrumental and sounds just like bad NuMetal. the other songs, esp "If We Ever" and "Sweet Lullaby" are awesome.

No I don't know them personally and try to do advertise, I just had to tell you about them cuz I like them very much...

You mean this?

Mh, never heard of them before. Maybe I'm looking for ..

And we forgot to speek about Seeed!

I actually don't like their music, but they have potencial.

And Gentleman has international potencial, too. ;)

All german^^

aaah! how could I forget Gentleman. I'm a fan of him, saw him in concert last year... Yeah I don't like Seeed either, but well...

I read about Alev in EMP and was interested. I always find bands with female singers interesting bcuz I sing, too.

What about Madsen? I like their music :)

i like Bach and Mozart :D

they r German right? cause back in those days Germany was independant states so i may have gotten it wrong...
