lilchick629
s I don't know about other countries but in the UK politians say that young people don't care about politics but a lot of young people do. It is the politicians who don't care about young people e.g. the government ignoring the opposition to top up fees from young people. People often turn to music for political ideas because people often relate to what the artist is saying about politics e.g. Stomp by Eminem. I find it reassuring when bands say they don't agree with the governments policy over something such as Iraq. I have an interest in politics, i'm doing it as part of my degree and when bands say that they, for example, don't agree with Iraq, I have respect for them. It's very brave to stand up and say something poltical if you are a musician. I agree with everything u said---the reason why politicians dont care about young people is because young people dont care about politics----its always the old, middle class, middle aged and above people going out to vote and getting involved---so why reach to the ones that dont even vote or get involved -ofcourse it is a generalization

silverion
Young people do care about politics. It affects everyone in the country. What these fat balding old men decide is best for the country is not always best. In fact most of the time it is no good at all. The problem is that the politicians are out of touch with the rest of society. They do not pay attention to what the people want. They go of on stupid tangents and try to invorce laws and regulations that make society worse. What is needed is for the government to be run by 25 to 35 year olds. People who are in touch. You do not need special training to be in politics. You just need to have a clear idea of what you want. And these ideas need to coincide with what the majority of people want. If the country is going to stay under the influence of these politicians then they better get with the program. And before anyone says i am being ageist...If they did their jobs properly. Instead of just taxing heavy and living the good live. If this government was actually making a noticable difference on the quality of life of those who are poor and needy and jobless. If they heavily reduced the waiting hours in hospitals to about 2 weeks. If they cut the amount of jobless people down so that only a few thousand in the whole country did not have a job....i could go on with a 1000 things that they need to change. But this is not the place for such things In short the government is corrupt. Young people are interested in politics. We just want politics to be interested in the country.Because at the moment it is a football manager whos forgotten its players.
Marie
I agree. Politicians especially New Labour has neglected this country in favour of the issue of war on terrorism. Instead of protecting this country, the governement has given the terrorists a reason to attack this country. At the moment most politicians appear to be middle/upper class, white, men. I feel that there is no-one in the cabinet I can relate to. I think the governement should take a look at itself and start caring about this country: sort out the NHS and education, takle the issue of social disintegration and stop looking down at the poor. Another problem is that there is no effective opposition and all the parties seem to be saying the same things, although I think that the Lib Dems are the only party who care about young people as they opposed top-up fees. But the chances of them getting into government is very slim. No wonder turnout for general elections is down.

We just want politics to be interested in the country.Because at the moment it is a football manager whos forgotten its players. AMEN to all you said---except that young people care about politics----Nope! If young people (1-30 age) cared about politics, and went out to vote, and got involved in local, state, and federal issues, then politicians would also look for the young's interest, and the politicians would try to make the young people happy and would care for us---why? because we are the ones electing them But, its very small the percentage of young people voting---and this is a well known FACT---so why should the politicians work hard to make us happy, and address our young mind's issues if we arent the ones going out to vote? Young people are too busy getting drunk, fucked, drunk, and more fucked and some studying that we dont get involved in politics and government and what's going on in the country-----really sad actually (all factual generalizations) *This is why I applaud people like P. Diddy, Kanye West, Greenday, Coldplay, U2, Eminem, etc...... because they use the power and influence they have over the young people to get them involved in real political issues---which is really the only way we really get involved, if someone we admire or look up to tells us to do so
