Their latest video is not very good. The acting in it makes me cringe.

I agree... i was hoping for a far better video, since the song so good, plus i dont see how it fits with the meaning of the album(supposedly all the songs and videos help explain its meaning)

I  Green Day. Well Billy Joe Armstrong seems to sing through his nose all the time :P but I like everything by Green Day. I knew they have a long career, but I started with American Idiot, too, just starting to listen to the other albums, so far I like Dookie very much as well. and the "wake me up..."video, what's wrong with it? I don't think it's bad.

Their idea with this whole album is to be political---as you all know, so "wake me up" just adds to that idea

it's supposed to demonstrate that most of the soldiers out there in iraq and enrolling in the forces are small town kids who feel that serving in the forces is the only way out of the little town---that it is the only way that will get them to college or to a better job, better life-(which is what they tell you to convince you) ------ its suposed to demonstrate that its only kids, just like you and me who are out there fighting with guns and bombs

IMO--the guy should have died in the end---which is what happens to many of them

that's my point he should have died!(not that i like death or anything, just adds up to their whole political thing...)

anyway, since you are a green day expert, do you think that any of them are either jimmy or whatsername from the album?

Well if that's what they were trying to demonstrate, it's not really getting to me. 0_o Maybe it's the actors or something? :P

But seriously. I felt like they got the whole view wrong.

You don't automatically go to Iraq after you enlist in the Army and finish bootcamp--there's lots of other places to be stationed. 0_o But if got stationed in Iraq, tough luck.

If your family or friends can't take the fact that you're enlisting, you shouldn't enlist.

The Army can get you a better life, college money, and make you a stronger person--but there's other ways too do that. If they're too ignorant to realize that, it's their wrong.

And there's other branches of the Military--the Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, and Marines.

If you don't wanna go over seas, but want some benefits, join the Coast Guard! :D

There are so many wrong things you said there

I wrote too much that i had to shorten it so dont worry bout 1

2nd--Greenday didnt say you go to IRAQ as soon as u enlist, did they??? and about going to war immediately after you enroll, its true---my best friend, john enrolled last year--two months later he was in iraq

3rd--You seriosly think that if one enrolls in the forces right now, and by forces i mean any not only army, they will have the choice to chose where to go---no they dont---ofcourse right now, everyone enrolling will be automatically send to iraq because it is obvious they need more people over there

4th--you dont understand, that in small towns, or in tough communities and backgrounds, the forces ARE to them, the best choice to succeed---its true---my friend john didnt want to go to war and put his life in the line for this country---but if you saw the family he comes from, and his background--you would understand why he did it-------his mom works to support 4 children other than him, his mom is a drunk, his dad left when he was a little boy, they live in a horrible neighborhood where there are shootings almost every week, he cant even afford to work and pay his way through college----you really think they are ignorant?????? I would say they are stupidly smart

---for many of those kids, the only exit is the forces, which promises schooling, money, training, a FUTURE

.

ok, sorry for getting too carried away--but this is something i am studying and working hard for right now--and i really believe in

Greenday ROCKS :P

i think its funny that you people weren't BORN when they got an album deal. and that the only reason why they're popular is because they sold out to a giant label, radio and mtv, the opposite of what punk is supposed to be.

and now the people that listen to them are the complete opposite of punk.

Okay, I was ridiculously off at some places. :P Especially the 'ignorant' part... I don't wanna bring religion into this, so, I won't say anything. 0_o

"You seriosly think that if one enrolls in the forces right now, and by forces i mean any not only army, they will have the choice to chose where to go---no they dont---ofcourse right now, everyone enrolling will be automatically send to iraq because it is obvious they need more people over there"

Er, I have relatives in the Army and Navy, and they're all on patrol in Okinawa Japan. 0_o

Armed Forces are needed elsewhere besides Iraq.

And the Coast Guard and National Guard are 'homeland security', hence homeland, most of those forces aren't sent overseas. They're scattered all over the US in military bases.

"it's supposed to demonstrate that most of the soldiers out there in iraq and enrolling in the forces are small town kids who feel that serving in the forces is the only way out of the little town---that it is the only way that will get them to college or to a better job, better life-(which is what they tell you to convince you) "

Ohhhkay... then what's the problem then? If that's the only way they can get a life, let them enlist. (ignore my statement earlier, lol. gah, I'm a dumbass)

Yeah, the majority of the forces are young--but when you're young, you're in your physical prime. It's the best time to join anyways.

Yeah... this kinda struck a nerve... I'm a bit of a military junkie.

EDIT: You know what, forget everything I said. lol.

My loving of the military and your loving of Green Day will probably make this a never ending arguement.

glarbinator--what is your name---i dont want to keep saying glarbinator

but anyways---Right now, when you enroll, at this moment in history, in our time, be mostly sure that will be to go to iraq or somewhere in the middle east---Why??? cause the forces, and i mean any of them, have said it themselves that soldiers deadlines are arriving and not enough kids are enrolling to replace them, seeing as we are in the middle of a war--ofcourse they will send them to where the war is

and about the homeland security--  why do you think homeland security took 5 days to arrive to hurricane katrina???? cause most of them were accross seas fighting in iraq

*points to sig*

AKA alyssa! :D

Anyways...

I have relatives that are *NOT* in Iraq! Gosh! lol.

My cousins uncle is about to be stationed in Japan, and my cousin in the Navy (she enlisted like... a year ago) is in Japan.

Screw the national guard thing though, lol. I said that without researching...

But the Coast Guard is still here! haha. Coast Guard... you just guard the coasts of countries. :D Catch illegal immigrants, catch boats trying to smuggle cocaine, etc etc... Still very dangerous none the less.

Omg, I need to stop...

In my opinion, Green Day's "American Idiot" (The album) could be called a milestone in punk rock. Why? It's not the good rock-music they are doing on that CD, it's because the album is different to most of the other punk-albums.

"American Idiot" is a concept-album like "The Wall" by Pink Floyd or "Tommy" by the Who. Every song tells chapters of a whole story, which is (in the case of "American Idiot") alienation of humans caused by america's media, false news, censorement etc.. Of course George W. Bush plays a role, too, and the usual, american guy (the so called "Jesus of Suburbia") who doesn't care about the things, the government is doing wrong, and so on. There are some other topics, which are pointed out in the album, but I can't express myself really well in english, cause I'm no native english speaker.

Anyways, another characteristic of that concept-album is, that some songs refer to persons or topics, which have been named in songs before that. (For example, "Letterbomb" refers to "Jesus of Suburbia")

Another thing, which makes the album so good, are the two very long songs, "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming". That's two times pure punk rock for over 9 minutes! That is veeeery unusual in the punk-scene.

Well, I think, the popularity of Green Day's singles spoil the brilliance of the whole album - it's sad, but we can't do anything against that.

I like 'Wake me up when September ends,' but the video has nothing to do with the song.

'Wake me..' is actually about Billie Joe dealing with the death of his father at a young age...i think his dad died from cancer when he was 10 years old.

i know that music videos don't always coincide with the song, but still...

i agree, sometimes songs dont coincide with their videos....its true that billy joe wrote it because of his father's death, but it could also mean different things. i guess the political theme was good, it clicked with the album. sadly, it didnt fit with their plan of making all their videos as an explanation to the album specially its characters... any one who has the album, can back me up on this one. i dont know who this girl or the boy are in the album, while in the video for boulevard and holiday, i can perfectly pinpoint who is who...(am i making any sense?)

I cannot agree with you on this----the album is political and awarness of political problems----therefore, dont expect to see literally the meaning--but only through critical thinking

Their idea with this whole album is to be political---as you all know, so "wake me up" just adds to that idea

I actually started to listen to then around 2003, When American Idiot came out though I guess that boosted me a bit because they suddenly became a hell of a lot more accessable with them being everywhere
