i agree' date=' sometimes songs dont coincide with their videos....its true that billy joe wrote it because of his father's death, but it could also mean different things. i guess the political theme was good, it clicked with the album. sadly, it didnt fit with their plan of making all their videos as an explanation to the album specially its characters... any one who has the album, can back me up on this one. i dont know who this girl or the boy are in the album, while in the video for boulevard and holiday, i can perfectly pinpoint who is who...(am i making any sense?)[/quote']

Ā

I cannot agree with you on this----the album is political and awarness of political problems----therefore, dont expect to see literally the meaning--but only through critical thinking

Ā

Their idea with this whole album is to be political---as you all know, so "wake me up" just adds to that idea

Ā

it's supposed to demonstrate that most of the soldiers out there in iraq and enrolling in the forces are small town kids who feel that serving in the forces is the only way out of the little town---that it is the only way that will get them to college or to a better job, better life-(which is what they tell you to convince you) ------ its suposed to demonstrate that its only kids, just like you and me who are out there fighting with guns and bombs

Ā

IMO--the guy should have died in the end---which is what happens to many of them

Ā

Ā

Ā

Dont expect leteral meaning but you gotta do critical thinking

Ā

i agree with you completely, the whole idea of the album was political awarness and the war in iraq and all the mess going on around us...its just that i feel as though he has completely left out the character's story...i know that the idea of the video coincides with the album but somehow i feel that they left out something in the video....i dont know if you actually understand my point...

Ugh. I hate this band.

Ā

I don't know why I dislike them so much. And I have given a listen (I mean, who hasn't? They're everywhere!)

Ā

They just annoy me...

Ā

And that music video they have, 'When September Ends' or something--that gets on my nerves...

Ā

Hope there's no Green Day lovers here! Lol.

Ā

Ā

you have a new friend! ;) :D

I hate green day. All they do is piss and moan about america' date=' when nobody really cares.[/quote']

Ā

thats the problem with america---nobody cares about whats going on in our government and our political arena---specially young kids---teenagers

Ā

that is why i love greenday---for using the power they have and the spotlight to aware teenagers and the rest of their listeners about what's going on in our government

Ā

why??? because its us taking over the country in a few years---we have to be involved

Ā

*hails to Greenday* :P

course not' date=' alessa. he's 13.[/quote']

Ā

And let this be a lesson to you all.

Ā

There are young kids on this site. Some even younger then 13. Always check the age of the person or peoples you are speaking to.

Ā

Btw. I actually think that Greenday have more of an Indie-rock sound then a punk sound. I also think that they are Americas answer to the band you know of as Radiohead. It would be best to take this as a compliment considering the amount of praise that critics throw at Radiohead.

Gah... why the hell do kids need to get their political ideas from their favorite bands nowadays?

Ā

God, my generation sucks... lol.

Ā

because is the only way we do after all

we certainly dont sit down to watch the news (unless they will report something on our fav. celebrity)

we certainly dont read the newspaper

we certainly dont look in the internet for news (unless all porn sites are down, or coldplaying.com is down)

Ā

Ā

and ofcourse, these are all generalizations---doesnt mean its everyone

I think America does not have the politics culture that the UK has. We practically send reporters to sleep in the top politicians bedrooms

Ā

Personally i would prefer to get my political ideas from music. Its muche better then having it force fed you every day.

i agree, i love green day, but i hate it that they are always labeling them punk rock! especially at this last last album! it is very good, but i wouldn call it punk!

Ā

I don't know about other countries but in the UK politians say that young people don't care about politics but a lot of young people do. It is the politicians who don't care about young people e.g. the government ignoring the opposition to top up fees from young people. People often turn to music for political ideas because people often relate to what the artist is saying about politics e.g. Stomp by Eminem. I find it reassuring when bands say they don't agree with the governments policy over something such as Iraq. I have an interest in politics, i'm doing it as part of my degree and when bands say that they, for example, don't agree with Iraq, I have respect for them. It's very brave to stand up and say something poltical if you are a musician.
