Did Oasis Rip Off Coldplay????

Featured Replies

Right Coldplay's 1:36 (Especially the live version of it) has been categorically ripped off by Oasis in my opinion by the song "The Meaning Of Soul" off their new album.Anyone agree???

Thanks for listening.

could you upload that song so we can hear it?

:o

You're right! I've just listened to both of the songs. And they sound very similar. If it's true, then it's a good rip-off

^upload! upload! :D :D

I wouldnt say its as much of a rip off as ashlee simpson now but there is a strong resemblence especially if you compare it with the live version of 1:36 because it is a tone lower and it is then in the same key as the Oasis song.

dammit ... i can't download it! what about loaind it up with rapidshare

downloading! downloading! thanks Xadajoda,

I listened to a clip of it on Amazon.com...

I'll have to re-DL 1.36 to remember exactly how it went. *shoom*

Thanks a lot! rapidshare worked ...

... and you were right ... sounds kinda similar

*laughs* I noticed the similarity last summer when I got the CD.

No, Oasis didn't copy or rip off or anything of the sort, at least not from a Coldplay B-side. What both bands did was build a song around two powerchords. The results when you do that are usually very similar, and very classic. People with a better knowlege of older music than me could probably back me up on this (or tell me I'm completly off), but I'm sure that there must be at least a dozen or so songs around that sound alot like both 1.36 and Meaning of Soul, especially from the 50s or 60s. Or as a blurb on the Oasis website puts it, "What we do hear is the deafening ninety second Meaning of Soul which spits fifties rock ‘n’ roll blades at passers by". If Oasis copied it off of anything it was probably their usual source material.

Me, I really love both songs. They can coexist just fine.

Yay, another to my Oasis collection: 1 song. Although, holy crap, Liam's voice sucks. Damn, he's worse than James Blunt! Actually... no one can compare to James Blunt haha.

wowwwww

yeah it does! it helps that I just so happened to be listening to 1.36 as I stumbled upon this thread. and I have listened to the live version earlier this evening..

sounds really really similar.

Yeah, except Oasis' version sounds more twangy-ish.
