January 1, 200620 yr How hard do you work when you work? I'm fairly certain I've done this thread before but circumstances change. When you go into work do you give it your all or do you do the least you can possibly do to get by? I hate it when people brag about how they are a "hard worker" yet work at Walmart. What are you working hard for? What's the fucking point? When I got a job in journalism, that's more geared towards what I'm interested in I worked fairly hard. But when I was a kitchen porter for 3 years, I did absolutely nothing haha. I used to take like 2 hour long breaks but the head chef didnt care because he was just used to me always being at work.
January 1, 200620 yr I'm currently doing my civilian service... that's a substitution to military service here and consists mainly in social work... however... I gotta admit, I'm not really hard working :-) I'm just doing the things, my supervisors are telling me to do, I don't do anything, which excesses necessarity. I think, 5 to 6 hours of my 7,5 hours working time I'm relaxing, eating, having breaks, chatting with my workmates etc. It's a quite nice job, bot it's not forever though!
January 1, 200620 yr well, im not a haaaaard worker (no comments about my msn times during work, reilly!!), but i alwayas make sure that im doing everything i have to, and then, if theres nothin else to do i try to help other ppl with their work... its only a 6 hour shift, but its at night, so there has been days i stayed till 2am at the hotel coz things were just crazy... but im not sure if that would qualify me as a hard worker though... But i love my job, is in the area i study, so im really happy about it :D
January 1, 200620 yr Author Hahaha when I saw that you had replied in this thread I just thought about the MSN receptionist haha :P Nah Im sure you work hard ;)
January 1, 200620 yr To be honest I've never had a job that I liked, I just did it to earn some money. I just did the things I had to do but I never worked hard. That might be differnt if I had a job that I actually like.
January 1, 200620 yr ^^ I agree. I always cut corners to get things done faster because sometimes your boss is stupid and won't notice. ;) I don't work hard usually and I beat myself up about it. I usually quit if it isn't easy for me. Nobody pushed me hard enough as a kid. Damn parents...
January 1, 200620 yr yeah, being on msn on the reception is not the best idea... i started laughing when i read something on it and the guest thought i was laughing at him!!
January 1, 200620 yr Author Yeah working under 16 is illegal everywhere, I believe. But it didnt stop me doing it at 14. In Ireland (And the UK actually) its kinda one of those, not so serious laws.
January 1, 200620 yr well... if i work hard... i guess that's a question for my boss and my workmates, they're the ones best placed to tellit. what i can say is that i take my job very seriously and i always search for perfection even though i know such thing is not possible... and also is not easy to work with me because of this obsetion.
January 2, 200620 yr I work really hard unless it's with someone I can talk to easily and they don't work, then I just do what I can to get by.
January 2, 200620 yr Author Thats exactly what I used to do. If I'm bored I'll work, otherwise, I'll skive.
January 2, 200620 yr I'm sure like most of you in college, we work our retail/restaurant/bar/other odd job to get by. I'm in retail, and I do work pretty hard, but some days I work harder than other days. Working at a clothing store is not something I intend on doing for the rest of my life, so I'm not really passionate about it at all. I absolutely love the people I work with, and I think that influences the way you feel about your job.
January 2, 200620 yr I'm a slacker...yeah i'll admit it..i USUALY dont work hard...thats why im not going anywhere in life...but alas im changing and hopefuly very soon ill be a hard worker. you only get out of life what you put in it.
