Chris's Negativity

Featured Replies

Curious as to others thoughts on why Chris is so up and down about the talent of the band, how people interpret them and the success of X & Y?

For example, he constantly makes negative statements like, "People are sick of us and we are too" and "A lot of people don't like us." He also comments about how "the next album will be a lot better" and their lyrics are "weak."

Contrary, here in the US anyway, I never hear bad stuff about Coldplay! I think X & Y is the most amazing album I have heard in the past ten years and I personally like it better than AROBTTH. How can he say they are lyrically weak? Coldplay is so amazingly talented, I'm just in awe of their music and talent. It's so odd to hear him make off the wall comments putting the band down like that; I don't understand it.

I saw the MGM Grand show on 2/3 (AMAZING by the way.....I love Chris's long hair!) and also at Arrowhead Pond show on 2/7 and at Arrowhead, he was saying how they were going to be playing at the Grammy's the next night and were going to "get completely shot down in all categories." He also did say that it would be the last show in California they would be playing for about three years........Yes, the Grammy's comment did turn out to be true but his lack of confidence in the band is sad when we all just love them so much and think they are perfect!

Anyone?

i think he want to stay modest and stay down to earth.

and it's good for them, cause this fame can do bad things.

i think deep unside he don't think that bad about his band,

and he makes other comments about how great coldplay are. :)

there some critics who hate coldplay and don't understand why so many people love them.

but somtimes i personally think, he doesn't know how great they are.

i sometimes have a feeling that all that negativy turns into something more than modest or down to earth. :/

yea..sometimes he's really....kinda depressive :(

but theres no reason to I think..their music is f*** great :)

comeon Chris, we all love u

I was re-watching all the BRITs coverage and he'd been drinking. Maybe he ain't good when he's duink...

But he did come over negative and totally blanked Kate Thornton when they came off stage. He must have been having a bad night of it...

I think it's just all a bit much for them all at the minute. I mean, suddenly all this pressure is on them, and it must be so tough for them to stay grounded.

I really dont even know what to say about this right now, im just gonna hope that they dont ever change for the worst...even the thought of them going all 'pop-starish' as someone said scares the shit out of me. :/

The bad press ais getting him and, most likely, the rest of the band down.

I hate to say it, but I think he's telling the truth because X&Y was not their best. (I love it, don't get me wrong) But it's just not up to Coldplay standards and pales in comparison to A Rush of Blood and Parachutes.

But they just need to stop. Just stop. Take a deep breath. Gather themselves. And sink into obscurity for a year or so while they write their new album.

^Ditto.

I'll be sad that they aren't around for a while, but ultimatley I want them to do it if it's gonna help them, which I think it will.

We've coped with a break like this before, so im sure we can do it again!!! :)

off course. it's just like i said before in thread about a break. :)

ppl ppl its like we're never gonna see them from last night on...you forgot the whole 7 months ahead us full of coldplay pics, music and all-the only thing that kinda makes me sad is the fact * no coldplay for a year* ..but you know what, the next year is a whole year of my preparing for college (arhitecture) so nothing will distract me (like now) from that. i'm taking this break a personal thing that was done just for me..

I preferred the old times when they didn't care about the media that much and they were considered "underground" (I actually hate this word but it's true)

It's really a dilemma. I mean on one hand I like that they're more widely known in the world and get appreciation and respect because it means that they're relly good and make high quality music. And finally I don't have to explain for hours to someone who they are and I don't get puzzled looks either from people when I mention them.... But on the other hand this has negative consequences. The more known they've become the less "underground" they've become as well and they get too much attention, which apparently doesn't do any good to them.

They definitely need a break because I absolutely don't like the direction they're heading at this moment. I just hope they won't change for worse.

All these threads are making me really really sad. :bigcry:

I just want to hide under my bed covers and come out when everything is ok again. :uhoh2: :embarrased:

There are alot of people who hate Chris and think he is an irritating twat, which is always going to happen when you become as world popular as they have become. Just look how many people hate Liam Gallagher now but around their first album in '94 it was cool for these type of fickle people to like them. Alot of people hate to see other people do so well and it would happen to any band of Coldplay's popularity. What I think Chris gets really frustrated about is the relentless amount of brown nose journalists who are all nice and positive towards them when they want something but then just say horrible things about the band when either Chris doesn't wan't to talk to them about his daughter or his private life. And I think some of the negative comments about X&Y by people he thought really liked them has made them realize some truth's maybe. I think X&Y is 80% good but there is something different about the band now....they are in that ultimate 'showbiz' celebrity status and I really think sometimes it's not where they want to be 'exactly'...as it's a long way from how I think they wanted to appear to the music world when they started 6-7 years ago. Radiohead have maintained something in the area of privicy that I really think Coldplay would love. This 'glitzy' path the band is on has had an effect on the music they've made and sometimes I feel it's not exactly 100% for the better.

^Totally agree with that.

You always talk so much sense man!!!

Thanks ;) , well I think alot of people feel this way.

I don't know! Chris is so strange actually! :( I think that X and Y are so awesome.. the songs are so perfect.... Maybe he is not content with his job.. maybe he wanna do something better! :/

Please Chris! Take it easy!!!!!!

Amen sistah!

I don't mind them having a break. Take as much time as you need boyz. I'll be waiting... :)

Maybe..

Agreed. But if Chris wanted to stay low profile, he shouldn't have married a movie star. It comes with the territory. Will, Jonny and Guy don't get it that bad [they don't get it at all, which is very lucky for them].

That's why I don't put paprazzi pix on my site [the really intrusive ones]. I know Chris hates it and I don't want to perpetuate things.

I hope they find themselves again.

I have to say I llllove X&Y but I don't think it's what Chris really wanted. I think deep inside just a little bit he agrees with those coldplay bashers that the band is cheesy and he's not going to settle for less. And I really believe Chris is such an amazing person that he has Radiohead potentiality.

Really he's never made music that dark before. I think that's what the band needs to do for Chris and honestly they need a Jonny Greenwood. (the weird radiohead guitarist) Coldplay did something that Radiohead didn't though.

Parachutes is an amazing album and Radiohead didn't start off as big as them. That's why they're not as famous and another reason I think that Coldplay can do even better than radiohead and OMG I hope they do.

if they do I will have the biggest freaking mancrush on Chris ever

man..i think you got this kinda right. ;)

But didn't Chris said in the Brits that it's hard for them sometimes becuase they are british but the pepole picked them for best song and best album and he have to agree with them? So he said he thinks Coldplay rock the world like we think! :

I don't really know but I gusse Chris love the band because it is very hard to don't love the band. To be in it with Guy, Will and Jonny, to write and preform great music, to be very fames and considrd the 2nd best band in the world, and not to like it and enjoy it and love the group?
