thanks for posting the pics... they're amazing

Wow... looking at all those pictures... I can't wait to go back to school! The computers there are the only ones I have access to that the Coldplayer works on. It doesn't work at home... so now I just have to wait until my free periods at school and I'm off to the library to look at the Coldplayer. Gosh. Awesome pictures. I thought that the one with Will and Guy looked like Will stole Guy's shoe or something... They're all great pictures, though!

ahhh those past couple of pages were beautiful. black and white photos are always the best.

Tour Journal: Singapore, Indoor Stadium

"Unleashed in the East"

10th July 2006

Show Day Singapore.

The guys played here before I joined the crew. They did some shows out here with Travis on the Parachutes tour. Maybe it’s this memory of old times that prompts the romp through the back catalogue in today’s soundcheck. ‘We Never Change’ gets an outing, as does ‘High Speed’. It’s actually the first time I’ve ever heard them play this song in the time I’ve worked with them. It’s always nice to hear something unusual (even if not everyone can remember exactly how it goes...). An hour of blowing the cobwebs off some oldies, and they’re done.

The show itself is an absolute corker. People talk of eastern audiences being reserved, or too polite - saying that gigs are just plain strange to play. There is absolutely none of that tonight, however. They are stood from the first note of the intro - every single one of them. Screaming at the top of their lungs too.

The guys are already in a good mood before they hit the stage, but the response seems to elevate them even further. By ‘In My Place’ they’re beaming from ear to ear and having a genuine blast. I look up briefly, the see Guy, Jonny and Chris huddled around the drumkit with their backs to the crowd. All four of them are sharing that disbelieving grin that says ‘how the hell did we end up here?’

They turn again and face ten thousand or so folks who seem very glad that they did. Guy suddenly looks down at his bass, shocked that it’s stopped working. He looks in a panic around at Hoppy, his tech, who smiles back and looks straight at Jonny, who’s just pressed Guy’s mute pedal and walked off. Jonny’s laughter lasts as long as it takes for him to realise that Guy is heading straight across the stage to his pedalboard bent on revenge. The two end up in a tussle, laughing all the way as they try to untangle themselves from each other’s guitar cables, whilst trying to finish the tune.

It’s that kind of show.

Tour Journal: Travel Day Singapore-Hong Kong

'Flight of the decorator'

11th July 2006

Singapore Airlines flight SQ226

It's the little differences when you're travelling. Every airport is largely like another. At the check-in desk today however, I stand reading the restricted items list, which is somewhat different from the norm. We are told that we are not allowed to carry tins of paint on the plane, or for that matter, turpentine thinners. Tile adhesive, that's also right out. Tagged on to the list, almost as an afterthought, are explosives and firearms. It seems that in this part of the world they're more worried about painters and decorators than ever they are terrorists. I have to say though, that the hotel room we've just checked out of goes some way to explaining why.

Some hours later, we arrive in Hong Kong, having thankfully escaped any geurilla-style makeover activities on the planes interior. We're all hoping that the move north from the equator is going to mean less heat and humidity. Us pasty Englanders just aren't cut out for the heat. It comes as some surprise then, that upon leaving the airport doors, we're greeted with a wave of heat like we've just opened an oven door - despite it being 9pm. Looks like were in for another few days of sweating...

awww we're nearing the end! [sob!]
