Richard Ashcroft Sucks

Featured Replies

Richard Ashcroft sucks. With the Verve he was good. Without them he has gone nowhere and put out 3 solo albums that blow. Many people think he's so awesome and great but he is a has been. He WAS great. I thought the verve were great and I bought his first solo album. But listening to all his solo albums before last nights concert I came to the realization they suck. Urban Hymns was awesome so I was blinded into thinking he was great. But I was wrong. The Verve were great. Even though he wrote there songs, the whole band had input about where to take the song. Summing all this up: Richard Ashcroft SUCKS.

I agree his solo cds are not as good as his verve stuff. But you have to admit, some of the songs are good. "New York", "On A Beach", "Why Not Nothing", and "Words just get in the way" are all good songs. I only like about half the songs on each of his solo cds, but overall I think he's talented. I'd see just him if he ever toured in Florida.

Im just saying there are alot of people im always seeing that say how awesome he is. Its all B.S.. And with his poor solo stuff. Having an album with 2-3 good songs is crap. That'd be 3-9 or 2-11. If he were a sports team that would be a piss poor record. He's basically a novelty act living off the success he had with 1 album.

I like the songss you said but thats spread over 3 albums, when you think about it that is pretty bad.

Richard Ashcroft doesn't shut up. He rambled on and on and on and on between songs in his incoherent british accent (which was made worse because I was higher up in the seats and was mostly hearing the reverb and stuff.) As far as I can tell (I'm sketchy on the details) someone in the crowd actually got fed up with him and screamed out for him to shut up, launching him on a tirade about how he never will. And then they played bittersweet symphony.

If I'm wrong with this story, please tell me... I'm not quite sure -what- happened.

Yeh dude i was high up last night too. And he was gettin on my nerves. I was actually looking more foward to seeing him than i was coldplay. And he let me down big time. And then how he started going on about how hes written a classic all i could think was yeah, you wrote a classic over 6 years ago and have not done shit since.

he doesnt suck, but he wasnt good. i thought he would be better then he was. the only song that was good was "bittersweet synphony", and that was even ok....and i love that song. so, a tad of a dissapointment on his opening for coldplay.

Gotta say I wasn't impressed. Bittersweet symphony was powerful, but like... I dunno. That doesn't make up for all his rambling stupidity and attempts to sound deep. And that thing he shouted at the end of his set, "Donate your money to a children's charity, don't buy our CD!" What a phoned-in act of generousity. Total publicity stunt.

I think the guy telling him to shut up is true. Someone else on this forum mentioned it. I think Richard has a big ego, but I like his music. Oh, and those werent all the songs of his that I like. I was just mentioning a few of his great ones. I like more than those couple songs.

Fiona Apple is better. :D

Yeah, that's exactly what happened last night as far as I can tell. He was rambling on about being liberal and stuff...and then someone told him to shut up. And he just said, "You want to get on this stage?" and blah, blah, blah. Honestly, I was REALLY looking forward to Ashcroft, but he was a real jerk. Bittersweet Symphony was at least good though.

How about his whole story about how he heard Imagine and it saved his life during some random trip to an Indian casino? Random.

I think Richie Ashcroft is fine. When he opened here in T.O., i noticed he was rambling a lot and talked a lot about his experience with his kids at the airport. And I even thought it was so weird that while he was performing, maybe not even half the ACC was full yet. Apparently, popcorn and beer was more important. =/

during Rich's set, i was kinda testing out which mode on my camera was best to film and take photos  no but really, i enjoyed his songs though

I enjoyed him a lot. (are we talking about him in regards to opening for Coldplay, or generally?) I thought he was an appropriate opener. I haven't gotten too much into his solo stuff, but I do love the work he did with The Verve (not just limited to 'Symphony', either). The sound was a bit off, but that's to be expected for an opening act. I've never heard one (except for Keane when they opened for U2) who had a REALLY good sound quality. That detracted from the experience, I think, overall. I liked him because the time definately passed quickly, unlike with some openers.

He didn't make any weird comments at my show, except for a few about how shitty the crowd was being. I've never witnessed a colder reception (saw him at Mohegan Sun, by the way). I was the only one cheering at one point, which was sort of pathetic. I guess I'm predisposed to artists who ramble on, though, since I'm a U2 fan... LMFAO!

I dunno, I just don't think he's that good a performer. His music kinda bores me and I don't really care for his pointless ramblings in an effort to sound deep. Honestly, I would have been happy if he'd just gone up there, played a half-hour bittersweet symphony jam session and not told those dumb stories. I don't care about the casino, Rich, nor the child you met at it. Stop talking.

Oh man, that was insane when he heard someone yell SHUT THE FCK UP during his talk.... and he was just fumed during Bittersweet... he was entirely directing that line "have you ever been down...!" to that man... whomever he was at the Philly show... Yiiikes.

be glad you all got Richard!

he is much better than goldfrapp!! goldfrapp is the worst liveband/band ever! In norway there were to people singing along, everyone else was pissed off..!

^unfortunatly, I have to agree there... maybe they're a good band, but I had the feeling that goldfrapp didn't really 'fit' in that place. but we already had that topic, so...

Richard Ashcroft is talanted.I loved Verve and still do, but all his solo albums are great, his songs are not similar.Even if you buy only his first album you will love The Song For The Lovers....His last album is just something....it's great.

I respect Verve, but I'm glad he moves on as a solo musician.

okey... wont say more ;)

but it was worth listening to goldfrapp, cause coldplay came right after ;)

^ don't even get me started on godfrapp, worst opener for a concert ever...dear god we were all trying to kill ourselves (maybe Chris knows they suck as he came up to introduce them and asked us to be kind with them )

But I also had the chance to see Richard in Verona, and I'm glad we all sang along to his songs, he was very happy to be there and didn't randomly talk too much (actually just few people would have been able to understand :laugh3: we italians don't know english)

I have two words for those who thought Ashcroft sucked as an opener for Coldplay

Cold Mountain <eg>

Did you mean Black Mountain? I'm assuming you did...in which case, I totally agree with you.

They opened for Coldplay back at Camden in August. And people all around me just booed and booed them. Pretty hilarious, actually.

GOD they were awful. I'd blocked that out. I don't think ANYONE paid attention when they played.
