hahahahahahahhaha what a great list. I think they just put a bunch of names in a blender and this is what they got.

hero?? hmmm I don't know how I feel about that..

he was a great writer.. and musician. I think I honestly have him to thank for my 'branching out' into rock and alternative music.. but a hero? Do I really want to idolized someone who commited suicide? I fel torn on that issue having lost a friend to suicide as well.. but, he was definitely an innovator.. and one hell of a writer.

God rest his soul.

I agree with you Camille, he shouldn't be number 1

ian brown and liam gallagher should be number 1 and 2 and that should be the end of it. 2 people on the list. but nooo.

kind of kidding, but that list's already more of a joke than that joke.

i'm not making any sense.

Just bought it today...here's the full list:

37. Elvis Presley

22. Jimi Hendrix (22!?!)

18. John Lennon

16. Bob Dylan (16?)

42. Bruce Springsteen

41. Paul McCartney

Legends!

What about these?

46. Johnny Cash

42. Bruce Springsteen

41. Paul McCartney

Legends!

agreed! seriously...putting Courtney love BEFORE people like Johnny Cash, Bruce, and Paul...and some others on the list after her like, Jimmy Page, and Neil Young

is a big ol fat ugly joke!

do they do this thing by popular vote?! ?!

and the only ones who vote are annoying assholes who really don't know shit about rock n roll?!

and the ones who really should vote to make the votes count deep down are too busy writing and listening to real rock n roll!?

how did the voting take place?!

anyway Kurt Cobain was an alright musician and all, but NOT enough to be number one!

disregarding all the names on that list ....

Who would your #1 be? :sneaky:

Considering Elvis is the first man to blend rhythm and blues with country and western, and as a result, create rock'n'roll music, I think he should be at the top of the list.

Chris Martin? Give me a break.... Same goes to Liam and Noel.

And I wouldn't consider Kurt Cobain a rock'n'roll hero at all, it's because of their template that mainstream rock has gone so so low. Now, I'm not saying that Kurt sucks, just that people are really blowing him out of proportion.

There have only been about 5 truly newcreating bands in the history of the world so these things are really silly cause band/artists steal things and mix different types of music but that doesn't make them better then the original or a hero..

Elvis should be on top and the rest can just, I dunno. Something.

My top 10 heros, and I really don't know who can argue with these people's greatness. Maybe their ranking (that's personal, for me)... But they're a lot better than NME's top ten. Jesus...

1. Bob Dylan

2. Bono

3. John Lennon

4. The Edge

5. Johnny Cash

6. Bruce Springsteen

7. Elvis Presley

8. Jimi Hendrix

9. David Bowie

10. Mick Jagger/Keith Richards (equal love for both of them, lmfao)

They've all altered our social, political and mental conscience. They've all had some major impact on the music industry. Whether they grace the covers of NME week after week shouldn't matter. Whether they shoot heroine into their eyeballs shouldn't matter. Whether they're cool and fuck a lot of chicks shouldn't matter. The fact that they've all had an impact on us (whether we know it or not) should matter.

For ME, this list is just sad. And it's the last nail in the coffin that just shows me how blind society has really come. People would rather listen to something, or look up to someone, who fills an imediate void, instead of investing themselves into something more (like, say, listening to Dylan's lyrics). Idiots.

Wow. Yeah. I'm so done.

Wow.

Ahh, I just love reading your posts Danielle, it's always a breath of fresh air. :)

It's like you take the thoughts that im too stupid to get out of my head and type them. :nice:

Awwww, thank you Steph! That's quite a compliment, for me! :nice:

You know what's really scary and sad about this? The top two heros are/were both deeply disturbed. Cobain killed himself, Doherty is destroying his body and mind. And people are looking up to this?! That is SO sad. :( I hate to see that...

^I thought the same thing. I love Prince, he da man!

Your welcome Danielle

And I hadn't thought about what you said...that's pretty shocking in itself. :\

Awwww, thank you Steph! That's quite a compliment, for me! :nice:

Yes, exactly.

"Heroes"? pfft, whoever compiled this list does not get the concept of heroes. how can Paul McCartney, Elvis, etc be all the way up there, and Cobain and Doherty be at no 1?! i havent even ever heard anything of Dohertys band!

and how did Cobain become a "hero"? by sceeching alot and killing himself. what a great representation of a hero...
