K2M
Question: How far is the concert from the airport? Because I'm thinking of going to this concert (if there are any tickets left), but my flight leaves at 00:05. Or else I'll have to go to Tokyo for their concert. sanjay
Airport is a 2 minute ride on the Airport Express (train). You should make your flight in plenty of time. And yes, there are tickets left, but only side view now.
K2M
Thanks for the info. Is Coldplay popular in HK, or are people are more interested in their local stars? I am cantonese myself, but I don't follow the HK entertainment industry.

sanjay
Thanks for the info. Is Coldplay popular in HK' date=' or are people are more interested in their local stars? I am cantonese myself, but I don't follow the HK entertainment industry.[/quote'] Local stars by a mile. If this was a famous Canto pop singer (Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok etc), the concert would have sold out in 10 mins - and they would have added another 14 shows which also would have all sold out quickly. Western shows are few and far between in HK and problem in the past has been that there has not been enough interest for bands to come here. But surprisingly, Sigur Ros played here in April (amazing show) which was almost sold out, Franz Ferdinand completely sold out and so did David Bowie, Sting etc. So it is a good sign of growing interest in the region - this means more bands will come if there is a market! So yes, the more 'famous' bands tend to do better here, but still cannot compare to local acts.
thyy
well.. who can deny that Canto pop is the most popular in HONG KONG? as i know.. some canto-pop singers.. if u want to purchase their tickets.. u need to queue up overnight in order to get a single ticket..!!! i bet there will be quite a large number of foreigners in the CONCERT.. P.S. I AM A LOCAL SECONDARY STUDENT in HONG KONG.. undeniable..i am a Chinese.... any people who are secondary students as well? :o

K2M
It's a pity for you guys that not many foreign musicians visit HK on their tours. A watched a few times Jade Solid Gold on sattelite-television, and the top 10 songs are always chinese songs. I never see any foreign artist making it to the top 10, can somebody explain this to me?. I've been a few times in HK, and I know that HMV sells foreign music, but I guess people are indeed more attracted to their own stars. Another question is, what is the most popular non-asian group or artist in HK nowadays? I was planning to move to HK over a few years, but that means I'll have less opportunity to visit concerts of the people I like (or I'll have to be brainwashed with all that Cantopop). Holger
Hong Kong Tickets Block 16, Row Y, Seats 9 + 10 Hi Folks I managed to buy two tickets for the concert in Hong Kong on July 13, 2006. Most popular artist here? Difficult to say. Mainstream, probably U2, Madonna or Sting (someone like that) who have a broad following. Alternative type - probably Coldplay (judging by the sales of tickets for their concert). Depeche Mode is v popular here as well. There is no brainwashing here - I have lived in HK for most of my life but can't tell you the name of 5 canto pop songs. I just stick to the music I like - HMV sells it, Internet radio plays it and all my friends listen to it, so not a problem at all. Besides, we get alot of European music shows on Channel V, MTV to keep us up to date! Moving to HK, yes, you may see less bands in concert, but the cultural aspect and the close proximity to the rest of Asia should make up for it. (God, I sound like I work at the HK Tourism Board!!!) (God, I sound like I work at the HK Tourism Board!!!) where u come from??? i can tell you that..most of the HK people support CantoPop and I CAN SAY THAT..NOT ALL CANTOPOP are CRAP.. such as some old singers..LESLEY CHEUNG,,,, ANITA MUI...their songs are really touching and has an important position in people's hearts.. nowadays..mostly for all teenagers..they like CANTOPOP.. one thing can explain this situation .. cantopop are mainly love songs..and students would like to hear.. moreover..when u wish to go to sing karaeoke nearly 98% of songs are CantoPop.. u know..singing karaeoke is one of the most interesting thing that HK teenagers would like to do these days... in my point of view,, I THINK Robiie Williams,,,, Avril Laviegne ,,, Kelly Clarkson ,, Destiny Child and James Blunt are more popular in HK.. For bands, COLDPLAY , LINKIN PARK and WESTLIFE as well as Simple Plan are rather popular too! Because their CDss are in the top 10 BESTSELLER S of FOREIGN MUSIC in Hong Kong this year... well.. can u guyz feel that the above singers/bands mostly sing pop songs? we guyz hardly accept other genres apart from POP.... in the past..Suede , Depeche Mode was very famous in HK! i think HK people rather like PET SHOP BOYS TOO! AND AIR SUPPLY!! these old bands/groups are very famous in HK in the past! there are a lot of bands which HK people are not familiar with.. I CAN TELL U THAT..HONG KONG citizens are likely to live in a foreign style.. but our music never ever change to BRITISH/AMERICAN style... most of the HK citizens like KOREAN POP AND J POP
