yes, i had the same bug (for example convertion to .avi didn't work for me)

when you convert the files from .flv format to another one, preferably rename the files to .wmv or .mpeg. if you have windows, should work ;)

thank you need youtube video for an assignment. gona try it now and see if it works.

i'm having problems with step 1 :(

when i try to download from keepvid site i don't know how to save file as flv.

so the file is not recognised by windows, quicktime, realplayer. And when using Riva encoder in the "input video" part when i browse the file doesn't even appear as it's not a video file (?) (!)

Edit: Opps

what did you do watermelonc1 to make it work? i tried temp internet files but nothing there.

If you use firefox (and if you are still using IE, change before your computer dies due to the shitty security of IE), when you get the download link, click on it. When the little box click save

i'm having problems with step 1 :(

In the little ("Save File As") box that pops up when you're saving a file, under "file name", type in the name, followed by ".flv" e.g. "Square One.flv" (instead of just Square One). Alternatively if you've forgotten, don't worry - just rename the file with the ".flv" added behind it after saving :D

A few other tips -

1) At the riva.dx website in step 2, make sure you download the right programme - Riva FLV Encoder towards the bottom of the page (and not the Riva Producer Lite).

2) To decode to MPEG or AVI, you need a programme called 'Super' to enable the Riva Encoder to decode to these formats. Alternatively, if you don't mind the flv format, you can play the videos straight in the Riva player (which is d'loaded automatically as part of the Riva FLV Encoder) without converting - saves people who're not so handy with computers the hassle of playing around with all this techy stuff :)

- Just thought I'd share some of my experiences :D

And thanks Nik & Dave for your help, real useful stuff :)

Oh wow thanks Ai i'll try this thanks for the tips let you know if it works.

EDIT: IT WORKS, IT WORKS!! thank you :)

converted it to avi too yay! sings-

"Celebrate good times, come on!(Let's celebrate)"

thanks again :)

I'm interested to learn how to convert .flv files to another format. I've already download 'Super' as indicated but not too sure how to make it work!

^ i'm in the dark too - i'm just blinding trying it out. Not sure if you should trust my advice lol but here goes...(btw you may know these steps but just in case i've added them and if i'm wrong--- someone techno savy please correct me!)

1) using the Riva FLV encoder, browse the flv file you want in "input video".

the "output video" automatically shows where your video will be saved under "destination video file" you can rename it . You can also change the .flv to .avi for example. Press encode to obtain encoded video.

Note: open this file and you will only hear sound, no visual image.

2)Open Super.

a) under "select output container" it gives you a variety of options from which to choose- for example avi.

under "select ouput video codec" it provides you with options ( i have no idea which goes well with what format but i've heard DivX is good with avi and it has worked for me.)

Note: later once converted the progam asks you again which codec you would like- its gives you options and explains that some are good for Windows media player and others for all players- i suppose you'll just have to try it out).

b) in a green box there is "video" options and in blue box "audio" options ( haven't tried those out cos i'm not to confident with that yet and it probably needs time to experiment the different choices).

c)Drag and drop the encoded file into grey box under "Active, Filename, Streaming link and Output Status.

d) at the bottom of the grey box in which you've dragged and dropped the file you want encoded there are some buttons which include "Encode (active job list files)", "Play(active job list files)" and "player options"

"player options" brings out a side bar to the right. here you can change other things to you video- full screen, brightness, contrast etc.

"play" allows you to preview the video

NOTE: if you have more than one video to convert then the preview will play ALL of them and you'll have to wait till they all end. also once played, the ticked box next to the list of items will have no tick- just click in the box for the ticks to appear in order to continue.

e) "Encode" converts the file to what you have specified.

NOTE 1: the progam will probably ask you again which codec you would like- its gives you options and explains that some are good for Windows media player and others for all players.

NOTE 2: you may find it hard to find the output file. just check where you've downloaded the Super software it should be in a folder called "eRightSoft", in the "super" folder, in a folder called "output"

Hope that helps :) and sorry for the novel lol

Thanks kekita for taking the time to give me all the steps for converting files. I really appreciate your kind assistance. I'll try it out and see if it works! :)

Well done Val - great step-by-step guide! I'm not sure about Riva (it doesn't seem to be able to convert the particular YouTube videos wanted to AVI format :( ), but you've just about hit the nail on Super. A few things to add...

1) Yes, choose DivX for 'Output Video Format' unless you're familiar with other formats. (*Note though: Windows Media Player requires the DivX codec to view DivX videos --> you may need to download a DivX codec. For a list of other WM player-compatible codecs, click here)

2) Taken from darkflux on a videohelp forum (hopefully this'll help us n00bs get started - I tried them myself and they work pretty well ;) )-

for AVI: settings: Size-640x480 (or 320x240)

Framerate-30

Bitrate-1000

Audio Bitrate-128 / 44100

for MPEG (ie if you're encoding into MPEG format): settings: Size-640x480 (you'll need to re-encode @ 720x480 later)

Framerate-29.97

Bitrate-2000

Audio Bitrate-128 / 44100

My personal note on the screen size conversion (ie video setting) - I selected 'no change' (rather than 640x480) when encoding to AVI, the reason being I see no point taking up more disc space than required when the original video quality's not that good. As I play my AVI files on the Windows Media Player / DivX player, the screen size can be switched to full-screen whenever I want and unconvertible screen size is never an issue :)

does anyone know how to take audio from a youtube video and turn it into an mp3?? thanks!!!

The above question - load the flv video into Super and theres an option for "Audio Only" in it , select mp3 etc and hit Go .

If converting the flv to MPG , you want to do the least amount of stretching to make it a dvd compliant resolution . If burning it to DVD , expand it to 352x288 for PAL with 48000Khz for sound and for NTSC 352x240 with 48000Khz sound - those will both burn to DVD .

If you`re only going to watch it on a pc - ideally keep it in flv format , if this isn`t practical as mentioned above , keep the original resolution if you can , this will help keep the video sharper .

i've found that http://vixy.net has a very simple one.

all you do is place the link of the youtube vid you want to download, select how you want it (pc, mac, mp3 etc) and your set.

it freakin awesome! :D

i better download the song with limewire or ares :smug:

And then you will get some lovely spyware rubbish on your computer from Limewire.

Best way to get the audio is to use Audacity, set it recording and watch the video, and hey pesto you have the audio.
