First of all this is just one persons word....that hardly proves ANYTHING. reminds me of the time my brother was a kid and told his teacher my parents beat him so he could get back at them. maybe if there was some documented proof, not some nutjobs account of whats going. Sadly people want to believe the worste, so you all believe it. overall our army has been one of the most kindest armies in history, except fora few occasion, like the prison abuse, we play by the rules. we would have saved hundreds of soldiers lives if we played dirty like the terrorist do. we have the rules of war binding us when we fight, unlike most nations. if we were that evil, we could have iraq under our thumb by now, the same way saddam did it. massacre anyone who stood up to us...since we usualy play fair and follow the rules we dont do that.

I think that quote says enough. I'm sure if I was a soldier, I'd do some things that I'd never want to think of again. Does it make it right? No. Does it justify it? No. But it does help to see things from another perspective.

i think you guys are all too caught up in the fact that you think this war should never have happened, and that the leaders are all evil.

yes they might be, and all that may be the case. but what mrcool person is saying is no more or less valid than what you are saying. he seems to be defensive of his country in the same way that the rest of you are trying to attack what they do.

 

the word of the soldier in this interview shouldnt be taken any more or less than anyone else's opinion. hes telling it how he sees it, and just because some commanders are hotheads, or some soldiers are too stupid to think about what they are doing, it doesnt mean that everyone is this way. its more shocking to hear about what soldiers do wrong then to hear what they do right, which is why it comes out like this when someone feels like saying it. if youre talking about the average soldier, id say that the average soldier doesnt want to be in iraq, questions what they are doing there, and probably wants to get home to a family that misses he/she. if this is just an average human being just like the rest of us, would you execute a boy to get an answer out of his dad?

 

the point is, none of us have been there. we know of all the wonderful heroes we see on tv or read in the paper, which is likely to be a load of shit anyway, just like this interview. if they are both probably polarised crap, the only difference is that the interview supports what people want to believe, and what is popular to believe - that iraq should never have been 'liberated' and the leaders are evil. so get your justification for feeling that from wherever you will, but this interview is only one piece evidence.
