The Bible-crap for some people, but important for many!

They still have smoking and nonsmoking room at most hotels. You usually can't smoke in common areas but can in a smoking room. Your room is not a public place unless you're some kind of a whore. :laugh3:

So is smoking then banned in the room??:P

Oh hee thanks guys for supporting my topic...:nice:

Well....I think the bible influences everyone's life.....without even knowing it!

Or religion in general.....I mean...whoho....why do we have a public holiday in Germany tomorrow?

This is one example....haha...but it is a weak example I know...

Yes it is, because it doesn't mean anything for me at all except that I lose a day's work!!

What has health got to do with it?

Well smoking is banned for health reasons, of course..............................

I see no distinction' date=' they're both bad for your health![/quote']

Please explain how! I'm all Prince Charles!!

Do you watch the news? Do you read newspapers? Do you listen to the radio? I think its pretty obvious for most people to see that religion is intrinsic to death every single day. Just like smoking.

I'm not religious' date=' but every single hotel room I have stayed in over the last 18 months has had a Bible in it. If they want to know whether I want a smoking or non-smoking room, why can't they ask me as well if I want a religious or non-religious room? I object to having it shoved in my face.[/quote']

I don't see how that is having a Bible shoved in your face. Its sort of like those cheap soaps they have. Some people bring their own and chose not to use it. If you don't want to read the Bible in your hotel room you can just ignore it.

I can ignore it, I can also ignore an ashtray. My point is why though do they ask if I need an ashtray, yet I don't get an option to have a room without a Bible.

good point...

I didn't read the whole Bible either, it'd be too much for me 'cause I'm not religious at all, but as you said, Julia, it's really important to know something before saying that it's a crap (or cool) 'cause you can't just opine when you don't know what you're talking about or otherwise... if you'd have to argue the reasons why you think that, you wouldn't know what to say, so you may seem absolutely silly!

The problem comes' date=' however, when people just blindly take everything in there at face value and then start preaching to other people about how they should live their lives...................................... [/quote']

Exactly, that's the main problem, when they take that too seriously and base their life on religion and want other people to do the same!!! <-- which is a BIG mistake!

Most definitely - and that goes for ANY religion!!;)

exactly!!! look all the damages that has produced the "bad" interpretation of the Koran!!!!

ahaa, I completely agree with you! ;)

These "interpretations" are then used to influence, manipulate and control people.

It's been happening for centuries................................................

that's true, but lately people have realized - in general - about this manipulation that religion (or should I say interpretation of religion) does and at least the catholic one is in full decline, so that control isn't that important now and every time it'd be less 'cause we won't allow it! I mean... religion has this control only if we allow it, if we don't give to it importance at all... they won't have anything to do with us!

And no religious brainwashing by schools OR parents!!

I do think that the Bible is important, in a cultural sense. Religion is a fascinating thing, to study from afar.

When you get deep into it, however, it's quite scary. I do NOT like the Church. This "dislike" borders on hate, for me. But we're not talking about the church, or a belief in God or any of that. Just the text.

It's interesting, that's for sure. Some of the verses are absolutely beautiful, pure poetry. Many of the morals taught inside are important for any, regardless of what your religious association may be. The fact that people take it as just that, FACT, isn't..... right, to me. People preach the bible like it's our Constitution, something to exactly interpret your life from.

I don't like it being in hotel rooms. What makes Catholics (or Christians, whoever the Bible goes with lmfao see, I'm not religious!), what makes THEM so entitled to deserve this? What about the Koran? How about a copy of that? See, that's what I don't like. The elitism people have when it comes to the Bible, like it deserves a certain... something above any other religion. I guess that's because it's so integrated into our culture, while other religions may not be, but that's no excuse.

If Scientology is considered a religion (or at least a way of life) to some, why don't we have copies of L. Ron Hubbards' science fiction novels all over the place, because it's taboo? Well, the bibles taboo to me! ;) See? It's just not fair to think the bible deserves something above anything else.
