The Bible-crap for some people, but important for many!

Why??

I don't know who he was talking to but I would maybe guess he was talking to Lera because of the laws in Saudi Arabia if I'm right people can be shot for not following the Quran. *edit* and also talking to you because when you replied you said "I agree totally. You don't need a book, a church/temple or a set of rules in order to find the true path. Everyone has that ability inside them - it's just a question of tapping into it." he could have been talking to me also because I'm saying I believe in the bible but I don't think he was.

that's just your opinion. I have the bible and history to back up my opinion. What do you have to back up your opinion that "I didn't say you should obey God. You can't do it anyway..." To you God is invisible' date=' but I see the bible and history and my own existence.[/quote']

I don't have to prove you my opinion, cos it's an opinion. I don't have anything to back up my thoughts, because they're mine.

I don't say you have to believe me, but it's a thread where everybody is free to say what they wanna say, so here I go with my opinion.

What do you see in bible? Words, that's all. You can't know for sure was the man who wrote it inspired by God or not. You can't say if he saw a God or if he heard him.

About your existence-I didn't say God doesn't exist and that he didn't create people.

I'm just saying that I'm an agnostic, whicj means that I do believe in God, just think there may be no proof of his existence. Church, bible-it's maybe good, but I don't think it's the main thing about your faith. If you go to church and read bible and that what makes you think you're a great God believer, you're wrong.

Yes - well that's a perfect example (if true) of how religion can be dangerous.

You have luck you don't live in Saudi Arabia.

Yeah I'm lucky in my life, I know.

All true. What it all comes down to is whether you believe, don't believe, or are undecided.

Everyone has to make up their own mind - there is no right or wrong.

Because by now, you'de be inprisoned;).

I agree with your opinions, however religion has been integrated with society for centuries here in the west, but it's still better than in others parts of the world, because you are allowed to live your life the way you want if, albeit sometimes dominat religion is subtly "shoved in you face".

It's basically true that all we have are words when it comes to the bible. But they are words that are widely revered as factual. Our opinions are a weak thing to base our lives on. I can't say I was there when God spoke to Moses to give him the 10 commandments but I believe it because of the verifications which come from so many different places to back up the truth value of the bible.

Such as my existence (like you said... but I don't mean molecular existence I mean my existence as one entity inside my body separate from my body)

Such as the fact that Israel was known throughout history as a Jewish nation that did have many kings such as David and Solomon and their histories were recorded through more than just the bible. And were known to be a nation that was under Egyptian captivity at one time.

Also Jesus is a known historical figure who no one can deny for a fact that he did not perform miracles although it would be hard to prove it seems even harder to disprove because if he was faking it seems he never would have become the huge historical figure that he was.

etc.

No one can say the bible is "maybe good" It's a masterpiece of history and literature no matter what you believe in. Nothing in my own life makes me great only God can do that. If I do what God says then I believe he can make me more than I ever would have been alone.

Uh... I have to go look for a job. It was nice talking to you three though.. valerie and mark and I don't know your name "Bijeli_Miš" but I have to go.. I'll be back later I hope. bye

"If I do what God says..."

God doesn't say anything, Bible does.

All you're saying...It's like you do believe in God and I don't.

But I do, just think that Bible is overrated, people think it's so important, but why? No proof that it was inspired by God.

But I'll never say that Bible and church are pointless and crap. No. If it help some people to believe, I'm glad for them.

If you think that following the Bible will make you better-go for it.

I'm not against Bible-I'm against superficial faith, against people who don't really believe in God, only in churches and Bible and all the followings there.

Like you can do whatever you wanna do and then go to church, pray there, and everything's great again.

I think God's somewhere, watching us and not interrupting us. I don't think he talks to people or inspires them, he just exists and we should believe in him, but never notice any proofs of his existence.

That's my opinion, yours is a bit different, nothing to do with that, everybody's got their own faith.

im not a christian anymore i dont belive that what bible says.

hole stuff to me goes litle over i dont belive that after we die

we go to heaven, in this case i belive karmas law.

will se what happens

"If I do what God says..."

God doesn't say anything, Bible does.

Yeah I kinda agree with your posts on this one. I was brought up Catholic, and have read the Bible and listened to the teachings of it, and I'm not too impressed by them! I consider myself to be Agnostic, and I do think that the world is made up of different perpectives on different things, religion being one of them. It's just another way of life to me, constructed to try and create meaning, you know those big questions, why are we here blah blah...

What REALLY bothers me about religion and particularly Catholicism (just speaking about what I know about), is that it's all so 'death-oriented'. You know, about rewards in the 'afterlife'. Why do people accept that life right here and right now is shitty for some people? Because those people will be 'rewarded' in the afterlife??

The Bible itself conveys a good way of approaching life, you know love thy neighbour and all that malarky, but some of it is just not appropriate to the times we live in.

A nice quote that amuses me:

"I got kicked out of Barnes & Noble for moving all the Bibles to the 'Fiction' section."

lmfao.

Exactly - because nobody knows what (if anything) happens after death, so it's anybody's guess. It's a bit like the lottery - you take your ticket and hope for the best.

In the words of John Lydon, "I could be wrong, I could be right"!!

Most of the religions say it's their way or the highway (to damnation), so who can say which (if any) is the right way?

You could read the good books of all the religions, plus literature such as the Da Vinci Code and still not be any closer to working it all out.

So I think it's far better just to get on with your life, do what you think best, and try not to cause anyone any direct harm or distress.

That way you should at least be able to live with a clear conscience.

Eternal damnation!!

But I do' date=' just think that Bible is overrated, people think it's so important, but why?[/quote']

Are you blind? Did you not read what I just said? Overrated? How could you possibly call the bible overrated? Don't you see the facts that back up its truth? How could you completely ignore what I said?

Actually those are more rhetorical I don't actually expect you to answer. The answer is that you have denied facts all of your life and will continue to deny them as useless information. You will live your life the way you want to and die the way you want to. But once you die I hope that God will have mercy on you based on your made up beliefs.

I am embarassed for all the things I've done wrong in my life but I will never be embarassed to say that I believe the bible is the word of God.

It's been proven that Jesus DID exist. As the son of GOD? Who knows! Who knows if he even rose from the dead, I've never seen any facts. Indeed, I haven't seen any facts presented in this thread... just hear say and opinions and the like.

It's not right to say anyone else's beliefs are "made up". See, this is what upsets me about religion. People who believe in it, shit... so entitled. Really, who are you to say?? Man, God must be a right bastard if he's only created the world for the few people who believe in him. Hell must be crowded with some pretty awesome people, then! My only belief is that you must live your life the best you can. You must be the best person that you could possibly be. Help anyone you can, try to make the world (and not just YOUR world) better. That's my only belief. I'm not going to "insure" my soul by saying some half ass prayers every night that the Bible or my CCD teacher told me to say (my CCD teacher was a bitch anyways LMFAO). I'm going to be truthful to my heart and exist as I see fit.

Don't tell me THAT'S made up. Just because a book's not written in ancient scripture about being a good person (without all the 'God', 'Jesus', 'Mary', and 'Joseph' stuff) doesn't mean it's not real, or credible.

*sigh* I don't know, but religion makes me tired and upset.

I am embarassed for all the things I've done wrong in my life but I will never be embarassed to say that I believe the bible is the word of God.

Nobody expects you to be.

You look at the 'evidence' with pre-conceived notions of what you want to see, and I accept that, but I also think you need to accept that some people will not buy into it.

And also, just because people do not believe Jesus was the son of God does not make us bad people. I know for a fact that I am a better person that some people I have known personally who made a point of going to church every week.

And how do you know God is a male anyway? People always refer to God as 'He'. How can God be a male, when gender divisions are socially constructed? Surely God would exist above such categorisations?

I'm not trying to knock religion, I just have an over-inquisitive mind and I don't understand a lot of it...

I also think you need to accept that some people will not buy into it.

I will not do that until I believe I have done the best I could.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mt 5:14-20). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

After that it talks about the old laws compared to the new laws

I know for a fact that I am a better person that some people I have known personally who made a point of going to church every week.

What's your point? Did I ever say that christians are better than everyone else? Actually you must have missed when I said "I'm the scum of the earth" but "God will choose who gets the glory"

But I do' date=' just think that Bible is overrated, people think it's so important, but why? No proof that it was inspired by God.[/quote']

I agree! Bible & religious influence have stunned and tried to control people's mind for years! in the name of religion, fanatism and universal truths that do not really exist humanity has been more and more divided. The bible is REALLY overrated at these times, a very, very old moral code from the Dark Age which we already came through!

What are you going to say when you are standing before the Judgment Throne of God after you die?

*Loud sarcastic laugh

Sorry I can't answer I really don't believe on that.

That doesn't mean I don't believe in God... I'm agnostic. God existence hasn't been prooven so there is NOTHING anyone can tell objectively about that matter.

I believe in God, but I don't believe in many religions and churches because people that "rule" them take advantage of everything they can hiding ambitions behind a twisted faith.
