The Bible-crap for some people, but important for many!

And if there's actually a God, which one is he/she from all the deities in the hudred of religions in the world?

I think that if there's a God it cannot be the Christian one or any represented by a certain cultural-ethincal view of life... is not worth talking about it. That's at least what I think.

well, yes. you can debate with yourself and people about God and the way it's supposed to be etc.

for you, it might be what a religion represents, or you can create your own idea of God. after all, there are so many interpretations of God that you get lost in the idea of what it should be. and it's not worth discussing with someone who has different ideas from yours, just because faith and believe can be so strong that minds cannot be changed. I believe that people have to know all the possible interpretations instead of rejecting them all, you might not believe but you can try to understand people with different ideas

Are you blind? Did you not read what I just said? Overrated? How could you possibly call the bible overrated? Don't you see the facts that back up its truth? How could you completely ignore what I said?

Actually those are more rhetorical I don't actually expect you to answer. The answer is that you have denied facts all of your life and will continue to deny them as useless information. You will live your life the way you want to and die the way you want to. But once you die I hope that God will have mercy on you based on your made up beliefs.

I'm not blind, but the things you're saying-the facts that back up the truth...Do you mean that it's something about my existence in Bible? Do you understand that it wasn't God who wrote it?

People wrote it like they thought it should be written.

When I die God won't need to have a mercy on me, because I've never said I don't believe in God. All I'm saying that Bible is not the main thing for me. If it helps you in your life, I'm happy for you. If you really follow the Bible-great, well done.

But the main thing about you is that you really believe in God. Even people who has never even opened the Bible can truly believe in God, this book is not what God judge us for, he will judge our lifes, what have we done, what people have we been on this earth.

I don't wanna argue with you anymore, cos it seems like I'm a rebel or something like that, and I just don't believe that Bible is so important for real faith.

I think the Bible has been used by people on thrones, in positions of power, to scare the masses into submission. I don't believe in hell for that reason. I just think it's something that was created in order to make people behave themselves, and Heaven was created to make people want to work for something after life. That way they would shut the hell up and get on with their crappy peasant/serf lives thinking there'd be something better for them beyond.

I really don't believe in living my life by what the Bible, and those who wrote it, say. Because people are wrong, and people are inherently selfish and evil. Call me a Calvinist, if you will, I really don't care. I just think that no one would write a book completely honestly. There's always going to be something wrong with it, something not quite the truth, a little exagerated or completely made up. Why should I invest myself into something like that?

I don't know. I believe in something, I believe that there is more to our lives than what we are lead on to believe, more to it than even religion entails. As long as I'm a good person, then it shouldn't matter if I didn't or don't believe in His High And Mighty, should it? Hey man, didn't do nothin' wrong! Let me in those "pearly gates"! LOL

What are you going to say when you are standing before the Judgment Throne of God after you die?

There's a Judgement Throne??

When I die God won't need to have a mercy on me' date=' because I've never said I don't believe in God. All I'm saying that Bible is not the main thing for me. If it helps you in your life, I'm happy for you. If you really follow the Bible-great, well done. [/quote']

either you are right or I am right. If you're right then it seems you and I are fine. If I'm right you can't also be right.

I don't wanna argue with you anymore' date=' cos it seems like I'm a rebel or something like that, and I just don't believe that Bible is so important for real faith.[/quote']

you don't want to argue with me because you won't change my mind about believing in the bible. And you won't change my mind that I know that it's wrong not to do your best to obey God.

It's still got some way to go to catch the "turkeys" thread, though!:P

i think we had these kinds of threads before and most of them ended that no one was right...some people believe in Jesus, God, The Bible (like me) and some not. you can't change people's views on it. all the religious themes will end in this way

That's a good point. Discussions like these usually end up in a total "stalemate", as neither side will budge.

In this day and age, we have to accept that different people have different takes on life, and leave it at that. Believe what you want, ultimately, if I don't believe in what the Bible says, it will not infringe on my beliefs about what will happen when I die. When, I die, I die, that's it, why should that be such a bad thing anyway? That's what I believe, and that's it.

And I do agree with the Bible on living life as a good person, ie, not killing, stealing etc.

this is a great religious thread which has potentiality to get 30 pages

keep on!!!

I'm somehow stunned by how many replies it got....

I didn't expect that...I thought maybe two pages and then it will disappear after 2 days...like many of my threads...

nahhh...religious themes always get at least 200 replies...remember "Would God hate gays?"

Hahha....yeah ok you are right there....

actually i thought that there were many of those threads before....

and actually I didn't want to discuss religion in general....I only wanted to get rid of this opinion...

but if this thread is still going it's cool...

*Loud sarcastic laugh

Sorry I can't answer I really don't believe on that.

That doesn't mean I don't believe in God... I'm agnostic. God existence hasn't been prooven so there is NOTHING anyone can tell objectively about that matter.

Ok...so there is no objective proof that the car ride you take today is going to keep you safe. You have no idea if someone is going to hit you and kill you. But, everyday you get into your car believing that you are safe inside of it and that nothing is going to happen. You put faith of your safety into your abilities, your car's abilities, and the other driver's abilities. The point is, you cannot prove that you are going to get in an accident and possibly die from it...but it CAN happen. So is the validity of objective truth really there? Or do you have to have faith in your life?

Btw, why are you laughing at what I believe? You could at least take what I believe seriously, and legitimately argue me without using sarcasm or anything like that.

But anyway, nowadays people are contorting objectivity into subjectivity anyway. Somehow the sky's not really blue anymore, it's just a figment of your imagination. In a way, I agree with this contortion, though. It's good to question what you believe every now and again to see whether or not you really do believe it.

You can believe in God and not obey him at all..

19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”— and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Jas 2:19-24). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

I agree that faith comes with actions .. You CAN hold a belief inside of you without stepping into a church... BUT the way you carry yourself and the way you treat others must be seen with your actions. I mean, biblically based.

also ..about predicting the furute: Many years before Jesus was born and where...these things were written about by prophets. (not only this but also other historically proven facts as well) The only way this could have been done with some kind of greater knowledge..wouldn't you agree?

I am not saying non church-goers can't have faith in a God, or no God... or that church-goers are the ones with the truth... And also, people do not even have to keep reading what I believe as a truth (of course)

The truth, I believe, will be found out in a not so far future and people can continue living their lives the way they want and think in their heart to be true. ... I believe in a judgement day and that in that day, people's actions will put them in their place

Yeah, but... What truth are we going to find out about? Is Jesus going to come back from the dead and be all "sup, whut'd i miss?". How would we even KNOW? Sorry, not to make light of it or anything... But really, in this day and age, how would we even know someone is Jesus? I could be Jesus, for all I know!

Or is someone going to come back from the dead and give us definitive proof as to who "rules", who "created" and if there IS a heaven or "life after death". That's not going to happen.

We'll never know, until we die. To me, religion isn't about truth. It's about faith. Because no matter what the truth is, people will find some way to not believe it, or find a fault with it, and the world will continue as it does today, with the same divisions.

I'm so cynical. LOL

He would be born in Bethlehem.

In Miqueas 5:2, 4 it was predicted that the "governor in Israel", that would be "great until the Earth ends", would leave Bethlehem. It was interpreted that this was a messianic prophecy. When Herodes the Great once asked the main priests to write where the Mesías was to be born, they responded: "In Bethlehem of Judea", and they mentioned Miqueas 5:2. (TM 2:3-6.) The town even knew that prophecy. (Jn 7:41, 42.)

this prediction came true. also, a small fact ..that the time, there were two Bethlehems...but that text specifies JUDEA and that is the one He came from

That is what I mentioned...no one really KNOWS...I am not trying to force anything on anyone. I am just putting my beliefs out there.

You are absolutely right (no disagreements here) about believing in what you believe in and see if anything happens.

Yeah, but... What truth are we going to find out about? Is Jesus going to come back from the dead and be all "sup, whut'd i miss?". How would we even KNOW? We know that Christ hasn't been on the earth since His resurrection. And we know that He isn't walking among us today, for it says in Matthew 24, "At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect..."

And how are we going to know exactly who Christ is at the second coming? Also in Matthew 24, "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call..."

Everything is about faith to an extent, NO ONE can claim to KNOW anything about anything conclusively.

Ok...so there is no objective proof that the car ride you take today is going to keep you safe. You have no idea if someone is going to hit you and kill you. But' date=' everyday you get into your car believing that you are safe inside of it and that nothing is going to happen. Yes, you have to have faith, but I prefer to have faith in the people around me, who I care about. The notion of 'God' is too abstract for me, I can't possibly work with that.

Btw, so what's your point SrfSnwColdplay? You mean that there's always a possibility that God might exist? same as there could be a possibility there's a powerful pink bunny that rules the universe? or what do you prefer a giant chicken?

Same as badlydrawngirl I have faith in myself and other around me... I just believe in what I see, what I smell, what I taste, what I feel. But I understand its really easy for many people to get lost in expectations and ilusions, so they don't feel alone, they think that theres something powerful (God) "out there" to give sense to their lifes and acts... sorry if you misunderstood me I wasn't really laughing at your beliefs just at what you said of punishement after death for those who don't believe... cause I think its the lamest idea a religion can have... to force others to believe through fear.
