Keane frontman Tom Chaplin has lashed out at Coldplay singer Chris Martin for disguising his posh accent to endear himself to fans.

 

The English trio are proud to be some of the few middle-class musicians in the mainly working-class rock scene, and refuse to alter their speech to appear more 'common'.

 

Chaplin says, "I remember seeing Chris Martin on television, and thinking, if I ever get on TV, I'm not going to start dropping my Ts and Gs. It would be like cutting out a piece of who you are just to please other people."

Well I quite do not like birtish accent, it's the only thing about Keane that I'm not fond of.

Tom can not disguise his real accent, the other way round form Chris Martin.

I quite don't like british accent in Music. But I love Keane.

When I first saw the headline, I was like...:confused: what's his problem?

Uhh I actually kind of think the opposite... I've been thinking for ages that when Chris was younger he'd speak less 'proper' and now he sounds a bit more posh.

Well, if you listen to Chris chattering on some of the oldest bootlegs out there, the accent does sound a little different, but in a good way... he got rid of some sloppier habits that made him sound like he had a bit of a lisp or something, sounds more neutral now. I had always figured it had come from being married to an American, actually.

I agree, if his accent did change it was probably only to relate to a wider audience. Sometimes certain accents can be hard to understand. Like, my mom is from Bermuda and sometimes i find it hard to understand my relatives.

I mean... the lengths that someone goes to to bash someone else. They reach as far as saying that he puts on a false accent? Right.

 

And I'm really quite sick of Keane right now. I never liked their music in the first place, but this has made me lose pretty much all respect I had for them. I know it's not a huge deal, it's just fucking stupid.

Of all people, Keane should know better. At least one of them went to school with Coldplay. Why do artists slag off others instead of just honestly promoting themselves???

 

For those who are sick of hearing about Keane, keep in mind that last year, ALOT of people were sick of hearing about Coldplay...Not me, mind you...NEVER!!!

 

As for his accent, I lived in the US for a year and a half and my own Mom didn't recognize my voice after a few months. Chris and the guys have spent alot of time in the US over the last 5 years...they all sound a little less British these days...not much, thank God.
