+ Paris Hilton and all those artists who think they make R'n'B like Rihanna, as you said PCD or some R'n'B male singers (don't remember their names lol)

as i think classic rock'n'roll has died some time ago, pop has as well

RIP

So true, nothing can be more ridicuolus than actress turning into singer. Like "I've already conquered the world of the cinema, let me conquer the world of music now", lol....

And it's also silly when such girl as, for example, Avril Lavigne (How to write it, huh?..) says she's a Rock Musician. Haha lol, she's a 21st century pop singer I'd say.

refering to a Radiohead song "Anyone Can Play Guitar" is very true nowadays IMO

the quantity is taking over the quality in the world of music

Wow! A thread for ppl like me!!! It's my constant rant that while so many hard-working and TALENTED artists are out there working their butts off for peanuts, these 'Plastic People' are raking it in and not offerring anything of real substance to theire fans!!! Oh well, *SIGH* Give the people what they want. I just thank God there are still a few bands like Coldplay around on the charts for those of us who need more than manufacured idols!!!

Stars! :D (And they've even gotten a very tiny bit of radioplay thanks to those silly Canadian content laws)

It depends on whether you're talking about pop as a genre or pop as a sound. The good pop as far as sound goes seems to have gone a bit underground, but it's still around. Imogen Heap and Broken Social Scene fall into that category, I think. It's not dead, just sleeping.

Pop as a genre is kind of hard to pin down because it moves to embrace whatever is popular. Coldplay started out as soft alternative rock, but now most people just refer to them as pop- they actually changed what pop was defined as. Right now, pop is mainly hiphop. Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, whatever.

Only time will tell, I guess.

tell me examples........:)

What ever happenned to Sonic Youth? I guess they really weren't pop, but bands like them and the Pixies and PJ Harvey kept the 90s cool.

Yeeeees. And not only in the world of music, unfortunately.

I remember when I was about 12 I thought that in 2010 there may be no music at all, I thought there'll be robots and people dressed in white leather lol.... But now I'm pretty sure that music will live forever, only it's quality will change with years. If in 20 years there're no such bands as RH, Coldplay etc and hip-hop females rule the world than I'm very sorry for the next generation.

i think pop is not dead,,its only very bad...like pussycat dolls, snoop dogg, and other thinks like that..it really sucks!

it's hard to say, because many promising bands have released only 2-3 or even 1 albums

my personal top 3 of the promising artists: Arcade Fire, Interpol, Coldplay (yeah, i still hope)

and there are many others but i'm not really sure about them

the time will tell, though i wouldn't mind if Coldplay wouldn't be popular at all...like in the old good days

Donn't worry. As long as ppl have passion there will always be great music being made. You may have to look elsewhere besides radio and MTV to find it...small clube, street corners...but it will awlays be there.

haha

disagreed about only Hip-Hop. there's a LOT of indie and alternative rock bands today. some of them crap, but some are good and have potential

the time will tell' date=' though i wouldn't mind if Coldplay wouldn't be popular at all...like in the old good days[/quote']

yes.. I always get sad when I think about what happened to Them

:(

they are already pop, aren't they? :(

they are already pop' date=' aren't they? :([/quote']

yes.. :( so sad.

In my view, I don't really give a fuckin' damn about genres of music, they are so many bands which now cross the traditional genres that more and more have to be created, which get confusing.

Like Indie-Rock and Rock-Indie are virtually the same, but you call an indierock band rockindie, they will go mad at you.

So at the end of the day I don't give a damn about genres, good music is still good music, be it pop, rock, dance, r&b, rap, garage, electrionic or whatever.

yeap sad' date=' because pop isn't really a style at all[/quote']

Unfortunately...but he called his daughter Apple...I doubt he'll go too pop-ish :laugh3: ..

Don't get me wrong - Apple's a great name.

It died an ugly death from back catalogue......

Yeah I agree, there is nothing good in the pop industry these days. Yet it continues to sell the most because it is fashionable.

well actually there are still some ok/good pop bands Imo.. like Air.. and finnish band The Crash :P
