The reasons why ofxam shops are no longer classied in the eyes of the HMRC as charity shops because they keep too much of the revenue generated for sale of overpriced stuff for themselves, so they are taxed on the profits.

Bono is evil and should be stopped, hiring a private jet to bring his favourite hat across from england, putting more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere on that one trip than most people do when driving their cars.

Camille, i think that was Nike, they own sweatshops in asia....might be adidas though....i was pretty sure its nike though, compare prices....most nikes are relatively cheap..

I think people are upset about this Nick because Bono was made out to be a saint with his money, and now they are finding that he isnt...he has done alot of good, but come on, the guy REALLY has more money than he could use...but its his money, its up to him to do what he wants with it, and nobody here can tell him anything else. Sure we would all like to see more of it sent to worthy causes.

I do hope Coldplay doesnt end up like U2, they really seem to be genuine with their requests and their causes. BTW, i have never liked Bono, i have always thought that he was very self centered and just kind of a prick...but the man has a right to do what he wishes with his money.

Oh and i saw The Edge campaigning on TV for a music fund to help send instruments and such to New Orleans after Katrina! That was really cool!

I dont think he is corrupt, this shit is coming from gareth aka captain conspiracy where everything thing in the whole world is one huge evil conspiracy theory.

it just pisses me off that people are attacking him when they have not done as much good as he did, for whatever the reason is...im sure there are people on here who would do more for the world if they had the funds but that does not give the right ot bash bono he's doing alot of good.

Boo fucking hoo for you. Can't believe you actually said "bono is better than anyone on here".....go and listen to your fucking self. You're very silly sometimes.

Any chance you get you use the 'conspiracy' word as you think it makes my comments less credible....that's all you are about.....not making many points, just spout out lots of straw man arguments. Really, everyone can see you doing it....just look at how many times you've linked what I'm sayng to Aliens, bigfoot etc......your a joke.....it's getting boring now...and really pathetic.

I was just pointing some stuff out....and I really wasn't saying that BONO is currupt or that he is an evil man. I mean flying a hat around the world for $1500 because he needed to wear it strikes me as a bit loopy.

Anyway......It's like he's gotten involved with things which he believes is a worthy cause but there's aspect of it to which he is unaware.....that he's being used as a tool

by others to help their causes which don't carry the best intentions.

I think it aint that important whether Bono is a hypocrite or not. "Make poverty history", huh, that's much easier said than done! Some guys are still so naive as to believe that several Bonos and Chris' are playing a big part in the "make poverty history" campaign. NO! Poverty is a extremely huge global issue, and it NOT ONLY exists in Africa! Perhaps a century later poverty would still be a very huge problem on the planet! So, IMO arguing about Bono's hypocrisy makes very little sense. Not that i'm pessimistic about the world, but you gotta realize that poverty is far more complicated than you think!

At this moment, it's more practical to cross your fingers for those poor ppl in Africa, Asia, Latin America and other parts of the world! And do what you can, though maybe rather faint, to help them!

Shut up, shut up, shut up. The next Orphan I see I will "point and laugh"??? What an idiot...

Always adding that little bit extra to make me look bad, when you know fine well that I wouldn't do those things.

People need to start calling you on this.....you do it all the time.

Hang on......I was saying that 'Bono' maybe unaware of what really is going on and that I think he should be paying more attention to the inner workings of what he's gets involved in. The political leaders can use him for their own gain and not actually help matters.

Sure I made a dig at him for flying his hat around the world but I think that someone who is telling others to give money to help these causes needs to be ready for some sort of critical press when he such things.

My second point there is what I am really getting at.

DAMMIT!!! Just once I'd like to aee a political/issues-oriented thread on this board where we don't end up insulting each other!!!I'm not saying 'let's all just agree'. I'm just saying everytime one of these threads gets to 3 pages or more, members start in at each other's throats!

back to topic: Just a note on the private plane issue...bono's hat not withstanding, that is a total waste of money and needlessly harmful to the environment...it's alot cheaper and fuel-efficient to buy your own plane if you're travelling as much as Chris or Bono that it is to fly commercial. And you can't exactly take a tour-bus to Ghana or Haiti...Besides, I agree with whoever said 'it's his money, it's his business how he spends it.'.

Bono and Chris Martin make jolly good music, but I wouldn't buy sports wear from them

Bono and Chris Martin make jolly good music' date=' but I wouldn't buy sports wear from them[/quote']

LOL!

Can any of us truly live as we believe? I know alot of my clothing is made in 3rd world or Asian countries, by endentured slaves, unpaid childern...sometimes chained to their chair etc. Alot of what I buy is either Fair Trade or locally produced, but not everything. If you buy running shoes...any brand, drive your car, purchase cheap souveniers, school aupplies...almost anything you can think of, your supposrting corrupt governments who use their people as slave labour. I can't say that Bono is knowingly corrupt. All I can say is that to some degree, all of us in the West who protest unfair labour practices but buy from countries who support them are to one degree or other, hypocrits...Not itentionally! We don't have alot of choice if we want to maintain our 'standard of living'.

We have it easy here. The best any of us can do is give back where possible. Bono's 'bosses' may be corrupt, but the causes of ending hunger and Fair Trade are just, no matter who's waving the flag.

I know, I know but look at my last post.....I told Mrcool (nick) to stop with his tactics of really saying outlandish things about me, like "the next orphan you see you'll point and laugh".....when he knows fine well that I know he really doesn't think that about me -

- but attatching such stupid attacks in an attempt to make my argument about these silly comments he says rarther than what I actually said is annoying - and he does it all the time.....without hardly ever making a real point.

Then I went on to point out what I thought......that's all I want to do.....but there's forever a wave of these straw man arguments which he tries to apply to our exchanges and it is whats leading the hollow debate as it spirals into name calling....it has to stop if we are going to be able to share our points and maybe learn something.

I see where you coming from, but you should be more considerate when writing your replies(in general, not just this particular thread), sure Bono has a lot of money, and has appeared in a lot of charitable work, but calling him better than the rest of us, just because he's got more money to donate to Africa, and is more vocal about it, is simply not smart. After all, it's not like any of theese actions is considered threatining to his carrer.Maybe some of cp members has adopted a baby ,or helped a dying man, which in my opinion, makes them much better person, than someone who simply throws money to poor.

I hear ya!! I wasn't singling anyone out either. It just seems all these threads spiral into insults. My living situation is pretty tense right now, so I look forward to my on-line 'life' to relax. I don't mean to be hyper about it...it just makes me a little sad, that's all.

As for what we do for others, we don't alll have bono's money...as was said. Just look at the CCC and you'll see that ppl on this board do what they can with what they have. It's one of the things that really impressed me about this community when I first registered!
