Socioeconomic Characteristics and Crime

Many studies have demonstrated that low socioeconomic status is a cause of crime. Our maps do show some correlation between crime rate and socioeconomic characteristics. As shown in Figures 7 ~ 10, high crime rates tend to be associated with high poverty rate and unemployment rate, low education attainment, and large household size. For example, the two neighborhoods (#26 and #37) that had the highest crime rates were those with the highest percentage of households in poverty and the highest percentage of population who did not have a high school diploma. The two neighborhoods also had the highest percentage of large-size households. In addition, male unemployment rates in the two neighborhoods were greater than 6.6% -- topping the index in other beats. In comparison, the areas with lower poverty and unemployment rates, such as those areas in the north, generally have lower crime rates.

 

Contrary to automobile theft and burglary, rape and assault as well as robbery are concentrated in areas with lower socioeconomic status. As shown in Figures 13, the index of rape, aggravated assault, and robbery were the highest in beats #26, #29, and #37. Correspondingly, all measures of socioeconomic characteristics indicate that these areas also had the highest poverty and unemployment rates, the lowest level of education attainment, and the highest concentration of large households (see Figures 7 – 10).

If i ever end up poor there is no one to blame but me. Poor people have to work way way harder to get out of being poor but its possible and racism isnt holding most people down, their own lazyness is.

But have you ever been turned down for a job or not accepted simply because of your name? Or race? Or ethnicity?? Being stopped by cops simply because you're in a low rider car, all hooked up with a blazing sound system.... and tinted windows.... just minding your biz.... and a cop pulls you over.... ??? Its called racial profiling... and most of corperate america practices this. Just by looking at a resume.. seeing the name Rodriquez... and tossing the resume aside.... not even looking at qualifications?? Sucks. I can tell you that much.. so its not so much laziness all the time either... but the simple fact that you have now connotated crime with poor black or poor white.. is even more disgraceful.

Ive been turned down fora job because of my race. Ive been stopped by the police for being a teenager many times, not doing anything illegal....

PS white people who drive low riders are pulled over for that, its not a race thing its a life style thing. i know white kids who drive gangster cars and get profiled because of that, its because a life style choice not a race(most but not all of the time) the police profile a certain type of life style....i have friends who drive 1988 caprice classics with nice rims who get stopped but they were white being stopped because of their car and life style not their race, i admit that is wrong, but more often they arent stopped because of their race but the way the dress/act/ or what they drive. my rich friends dont get pulled over too often, they drive 40-50,000 dollar cars and dress nice....i promise you if they drove a certain type of car and dressed a way they would be stopped alot more.

 

Its life style profiling, not a race. If you qaulify and act the right way you can geta job. people confuse the way people dress and act for race. its a life style not a race.

 

people makes excuses for their lazyness or the way they live their life...its a easy way to be defeated without it being your fault. as long as people use this for an excuse they will remain poor.

Its not racial profiling its life style profiling. urban white kids get treated the same an profiled too...in some cases yes its racial profiling but the majority is life style profiling.

 

Thats because they are listening to Garth Brooks, not rap....thus proving its a life style issue not race.
