US Senate: Admit No evidence links Saddam Hussein to 'terror' group.

Featured Replies

There is no evidence of links between former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda leaders in Iraq prior to the 2003 war, a US Senate report has said.

The revelation comes from a 2005 CIA report released by the Senate's Intelligence Committee on Friday.

US President George W Bush has said that the presence of late al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq before the war was evidence of a link.

Opposition Democrats say the report has harmed Mr Bush's case for going to war.

Senate report: No Saddam, al-Qaida link

Long-awaited analysis also finds that anti-Saddam group misled U.S.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which released the Iraq report, is chaired by Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., left. The ranking minority member is Sen. Jay Rockefeller, right.

WASHINGTON - There’s no evidence Saddam Hussein had a relationship with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his al-Qaida associates, according to a Senate report on prewar intelligence on Iraq released Friday. Democrats said the report undercuts President Bush’s justification for going to war.

The declassified document, written by the Senate Intelligence Committee, also explores the role that inaccurate information supplied by the Iraqi National Congress, an anti-Saddam exile group, had in the march to war.

It discloses for the first time an October 2005 CIA assessment that prior to the war Saddam’s government “did not have a relationship, harbor or turn a blind eye toward Zarqawi and his associates.”

We already knew this though. It's actually old news isn't it.

"US President George W Bush has said that the presence of late al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq before the war was evidence of a link."

Thats like saying you like a pub because you popped in to use the bog.

And if this was used a premise to war then yes it has harmed.

But isnt the senate being controlled by the same people who control Bush??

How can you trust this report?

Well, as I say....this is old news....it was admitted a while ago that Saddam had nothing to do with the group and that he had no 'weapons of mass destruction'.

I don't quite understand why it's a breaking news article actually...

the Senate is run by majority... which at this moment is Republican... however, its still considered a bi-partisain democracy..... go figure.. lol

Any intelligent person know saddam and Al Queda had no connections. He did have connections to Ansar Al Islam though

Iraq is a big country thou, anyone could hide there. So its proved Saddamhad no connections with them -is it also proved that he had no knowledge of them in his country?

Any intelligent person know saddam and Al Queda had no connections.

But we were told that there were connections. That's the problem.

They count on most of the population being pretty stupid.

I was never told there were connection to al queada....

I know from recorded facts saddam had ties to Ansar Al Islam and had a terrorist camp for them, called Salmen Pak.

unlike you i rely on evidence and facts not theories;) dumb people just pick and choose what they like....

You are a halfwit!!!

The American people were led to believe that there were connections!

You are a halfwit!!!

The American people were led to believe that there were connections!

Because the goverment thought they had intel linking saddam to alqeada..i never said they were linked, thus this has nothing to do abut me, you moron.

The halfwit is you, this isnt about my personal opinions right nowand yet you still try to make personal attacks? you are dumb

I'm not arguing what americans were led to believe...im simply pointing out saddam and al queada had no connections but saddam had connections to other terrorist groups.

Lets get this straight....

I said "we were told that there were connections. That's the problem" - which we were told by the government - one of the reasons to bomb Iraq

You said this "I was never told there were connection to al queada...." - which is just a plain bizarre comment

I said "You are a halfwit!!! The American people were led to believe that there were connections!" - which is true, they did tell us that

and you then said "i never said they were linked, thus this has nothing to do about me, you moron" - which again is random

Ok, conversations with you are mind numbing...I don't see how you come up with such horribly put together arguments....it's like you read one thing and then just write something loosely based on my comments.

To my knowledge we were never told they were linked....and i have never said they were. It may have been implied but no one to my knowledge outright said saddam and alqeada were linked.

idiot.

On man...

Here's a nice quote for you then...

"There clearly was a relationship. It's been testified to. The evidence is overwhelming....

.....It involves a whole series of contacts, high-level contacts with Osama bin Laden and Iraqi intelligence officials."

Vice President Dick Cheney

So indeed he did say that.... many also thought that to be true, there was evidence that made it seem that way. but now we are able to look at it all and see they werent linked.

My current manager at work served in iraq when he was in the army.

The only reason america when into iraq was for oil.

Yeah? 3 years later where is the oil we went to get? our prices are very high and bush is hurting because of that politically yet we see no iraqi oil!

  • Author

Of course the prices are high, there's the threat that the US are going to blast open another conflict in the region...one way or another.

Most of the oil is coming to europe anyway...

So indeed he did say that.... many also thought that to be true' date=' there was evidence that made it seem that way.[/quote']

Just like the WMD's that weren't there too....

For a country and government who spends the largest amount of money on defence (that should be attack) and intel. in the world, as well as an administration that has borrowed more cash than all previous Presidents combined....they sure miscalculate to a tremendous degree...

Well, we all know that the WMD and the "Saddam Link to Bin Laden" were complete lies...

It was not about oil. Geez. There is oil in lots of other countries, then there was the Un food for oil.

After the narrow win in 2000 dont you think Bush wouldve wanted to wage war and gain a quick victory to boost his populartiy and chances of re-election?

And besides we knew Saddam had WMD - We gave them to him! Were we satisifed he no longer had them? no.
