he did say meaning and symbolism were two different things and that their songs have both.

 

i think it means something else, maybe he had dreams and things he wanted so badly to experience, but never will. we all have those things, our regrets in life... what if we had done it differently?

 

maybe he is singing to the youth in his life? johans son? younger friends? ect...
