December 13, 200916 yr Sorry I've been MIA! Here's part one of my experience meeting the guys, because I'm taking so long to write everything. Part two will be up later tonight. So, after the gig, all my brother's friends wanted to head to a bar to get some food. My brother was so close to abandoning my quest to meet the band, but eventually I persuaded him to stay with me. I think he knew that I'd hold it against him for the rest of his life if he made me go with his friends instead. We had parked in a lot that was right around the corner from the tourbus, which was quite convenient. There was another frenger there named Peter who was waiting around hoping to meet the band, so we chatted while standing in the freezing cold. Some moron had parked his car right behind the equipment trailer which effectively prevented the crew from loading all the stuff back in there, so we watched them deal with that for a while. They were gonna call a tow truck at first, and then they were just going to wait for the bus driver to come so they could pull forward a few feet, but in the end I think they simply pushed the car away with their combined brute strength. It would have been really unfortunate if they were delayed because of it - Vancouver to Portland isn't a short drive by any means. Kasper was walking back and forth, and he smiled at me. :D I think he must have recognized me from the previous night in Seattle. Around the time the crew managed to get the car out of the way, I saw Nick walking toward the bus. We kind of just stared as he walked up the street, and then I finally mustered the courage to say "Hi Dr. Nick!". He immediately smiled and just...burst into conversation. He was super talkative and is literally the friendliest person I've ever met. And I didn't make it awkward like last time - I actually had coherent, nice conversation with him! It was amazing! He made us all feel so comfortable. We told him we were at the Seattle gig the night before, and we talked about the difference between the two shows (Seattle was more enjoyable for all of us, but Vancouver had better sound). I told him all about my crazy two days, driving home from Seattle at 4 am, driving to the ferries at 5:45 am, writing my final exam on the island, then taking the ferry back to Vancouver and driving downtown). He asked me how my exam went, and I told him I think I did alright. He was all "Yeeaaahh you did, I can tell, you look like (something I can't remember)" - basically something to the effect of me seeming intelligent I guess, hahaha. He was so awesome! I thanked him for playing us an extra song in Seattle, and also told him I loved his acting in the last video diary, and his roaming the desert in the doctor's coat. I asked him how they made that one, and he said Jonas basically comes up with the script, and then convinces the doctor to do pretty much whatever he wants him to. We also talked about the website for Effervescent Seahorses, and he called Jonas a "clever sausage" for being able to make all that stuff. Sooo British, hahaha. He took pictures with my brother and I, and was telling us that apparently you get the best photos by saying "Douche" instead of "Cheese". So, I took the picture saying "1-2-3, DOOUUUUUCHHHE!" The way Nick was saying "Dooouuuuuche" was absolutely hilarious. Anyway, he told us the guys were still inside the venue and would be coming out eventually, so we should definitely stick around and wait for them. Then he went off to grab a few more beers before they hit the road. This encounter lifted our moods considerably, so even though it was only getting colder and colder, we were all the more determined to stay. A while later, Silas came around the corner holding a bunch of stuff, and we got to talk to him for a short while. Again, we talked about the gig tonight and Seattle, and told him he did an incredible job. He was actually quite talkative, and wasn't nearly as shy as you'd expect! Although sometimes I couldn't completely understand what he was saying :) And of course, he was really, really sweet, gracious, and humble. He told us they were pretty tired tonight, and that he's looking forward to getting a good rest at home so they can really "pound it out" in the shows lined up for 2010. I asked him whether they were going to come back to North America next year, and he wasn't sure - they haven't got too many things set in stone yet besides the gigs in Scandinavia and Japan, it seems. He signed all my album booklets and took pictures with us (he had to put his things away in the bus first), and I thanked him profusely and told him to get a good rest and to have a great Christmas in Denmark. Nick and I My brother was laughing at the "Douche" thing Tired Silas. Such a sweetheart! AWWWWW :D:D:D:D:D I'm so, jealous, it's not even funny! Doucheeee hahaha SILAS. HE LOOKS SO TIRED. BUT SO YUMMY. :wideeyed: That's so great Rural (wish I knew your real name :shame:) That must have been a great night!

December 13, 200916 yr Part two :) After that was Bo. He was wearing his big poofy jacket with the hood up, and I called his name and asked if he had a moment. While he was signing Peter's vinyl, I told him I actually have something to say to him in Danish, or at least would like to try, so he was like "Ok!" I took the gum out of my mouth and said "Jeg kan godt lide dig overskæg" (I like your mustache). He looked slightly puzzled for a second (obviously due to my terrible accent), and then broke out in a sly smile as he understood what I was trying to tell him. He told me I could say it a different way, and said something in Danish, but I couldn't even begin to try to repeat it. Then he said I need to say "dit" instead of "dig", so I tried saying "dit", then he repeated it again for me, and...yeah. Danish phail. It was embarrassing, but funny. He was like "And thanks, I like it too," and stroked his mustache. :D We talked about how amazing their performance was in Seattle, and I mentioned that the crowd wasn't nearly as good in Vancouver - I was standing in the very front, but nobody around me was moving much and it was slightly depressing. He agreed, and said he was feeling tired tonight, and thought the crowd was "a bit boring". Gotta hand it to Bo for being straight up. I also got him to sign all my booklets, and take a picture with me. I could really tell he was tired, but he was still incredibly nice and patient with us. Oh yeah, we saw Silas again when he came back with a sandwich or something, and he said hi before he went back in the bus. We just needed to wait for Jonas now, and boy did he take his sweet time. Just to give you guys an idea of how long, we started this waiting mission at around 10:30ish, and when Jonas finally came out it was slightly past midnight. I'm not sure at what times the other guys came out, because I never checked my watch. Anyway, at some point after Bo went into the bus, two girls came and joined us. Finally, Jonas came around the corner with Nick and one of the crew members (who had broken his foot the night before). While Jonas was signing things for the two girls, Nick came over to talk to my brother and I again, and he was like "See, I told you they'd come!" :) This time I got him to sign my booklets, and he made a comment on my large collection (I'd brought the five albums and the EP). I told him I also had singles, but I didn't bring them for the sake of being less of a nuisance. Then Jonas was signing Peter's vinyl, and Peter pointed out to him that I'd been to five of their shows. I told him how I actually went to my first Mew gig illegally with a friend's ID, and almost didn't get in because I looked nothing like her. He said "Good thing you got in!" I also mentioned the Buzznet interview he did a while back, and that I was "Citizen Insane" who asked him about putting one of their songs on Rock Band. We talked about what songs would be good on there, and I thanked him again for answering my question. I also asked him about whether they've considered playing a gig in South Korea, and he replied that he really, really wants to. I talked to him some more about the Korean fansite, and how it's more difficult for Korean frengers to get their voices heard because they don't use Myspace or Facebook there, and also since they're not assertive like the Mexican frengers (Jonas laughed at that). While he was talking to us and signing my booklets, I could see one of their roadies (the one with the cowboy hat) taking pictures of us with his iPhone. :D I think they were a bit surprised and happy that they had frengers waiting this long for them outside to meet them in Vancouver. Oh yeah I also saw Bastian while we were talking to Jonas, but he just went straight inside the bus. Just before they all piled into the tourbus, I told Jonas that I tried to learn "Merry Christmas" in Danish, but it was too hard to pronounce. He said "Glædelig Jul", and when I tried repeating it he was like "Yeah!" (He was probably just being nice, though :p) Then I said "Oh, but I can say 'tusind tak'!", to which he replied "I can say kam-sa-ham-ni-da" (which means thank you in Korean). I was so shocked and delighted! We told them we love them and to come back soon, and that was it. The perfect end to two spectacular nights, and the perfect start to my winter holidays! I'm still so giddy and can't believe I actually got to meet my heroes, and have non-fangirlish, relatively calm, coherent chats with all of them! And they were the most humble, friendly, and gracious group of people ever - so much so that it seems nearly impossible that they're the source of some of the most incredible music on this earth. It's all more than I could have asked or hoped for, and I just can't wait until the next time I get to see them again. Some more pictures to accompany the story: Me and Bo!! By this time, my face was literally frozen solid, and combined with the excitement of finally meeting Jonas, I didn't know how to smile properly anymore...hence the awkward expression. My cheeks were trembling, haha.

December 14, 200916 yr Sunday, December 13, 2009 Portland Portland; a warm although cold, beautiful place with hot people who are cool but warm still http://blogs.myspace.com/mew
December 14, 200916 yr Sorry I've been MIA! Part two :) After that was Bo. I had to retake this one because the first one came out blurry. Oops. By this time, my face was literally frozen solid, and combined with the excitement of finally meeting Jonas, I didn't know how to smile properly anymore...hence the awkward expression. My cheeks were trembling, haha. Thanks everyone :D It really was a wonderful experience. Here are some more pictures of the shows, and also some videos. Seattle Vancouver :bomb: :bomb: :bomb: I'm so glad you met all of them! Thanks for the wonderful story, pics & videos! Poor Silas, he looks really tired..
