Top 5 Shit Albums of the year

Featured Replies

(...or the albums that didn't meet expectations/flopped/didn't do it for you)

You could include dodgy greatest hits albums which were a pure cash-in from the Band or from the record company with zero input from the band.

So what are the top 5 albums of the year you really hated listening to?

For example, my list is:

1 - Orson - Worst band for ages, only the hats are notable. Most lazy band when it comes to artwork.

2 - Sandi Thom - Got made famous by her record company trying to jump onto the internet bandwagon. Punkrocker with flowers was one of the worst songs of the year, and the album is very similar to that

3 - Sam's Town - Was looking forward to this after the mighty Hot Fuss but was let down massivley by a Springsteen esque album without the hooks, melody or the talent.. No power, no emotion, very week.

4 - Rudebox - Do I really need to make a comment?

5 - The Beautiful South - Gold (A greatest hits package which had zero input from the band, so dodgy artwork and a dodgy selection of songs).

I stole the idea from another forum, where it has been quite a subject for discussion.

oh,, i really agree with rudebox..hate his latest songs.

I haven't heard Sandi Thom's album but if it's as bad as that awful single, I will give it a miss.

Yes - Rudebox was an absolute shocker!!

Robbie has most definitely lost the plot...................................

Did he have the plot in the first place?

If you hated listening to them, why listen in the first place?

  • Author

You got to listen to them to determine if they are good or bad.

Hence why I didn't include westlife's album because I ain't listened to it (nor want to listen to it, I rather die)

Audioslave - Revelations ...big letdown for me.

Oh I think thats a good album from audioslave!

I'm sorry, did you have Sam's Town on there?? Let's just say I seriously disagree, and leave it at that. haha.

Honestly, Sam's Town? That was an awesome album. Sure, if you're expecting a repeat of Hot Fuss you would be disappointed, because what they did instead is actually grow in their sound. But whatever....

1 - Orson - Worst band for ages, only the hats are notable. Most lazy band when it comes to artwork.

I agree!

I quite liked "no tomorrow" at first.....so I listened to the album and I think I didn't even reach the last song.....what a weak piece this was.....everything sounded the same....really boring...

Rudebox sucked majorly. And this is coming from a fan who payed $150 to see him, and loves his old stuff.

I couldn't believe how bad the title track was when he performed it at his show. I think a lot of people were dumbstruck!!:stunned:

Robbie sucks at rapping - he should give it up immediately!! Who does he think he is - Fiddy Cen'??

Agree! Yesterday I had to watch (! :D) a bit of his Leeds concert which was broadcasted last evening here, and when he performed "Rudebox" I couldn't believe how bad it was! We quickly switched the channel. ;)

There are a couple of OK cover versions on the album (such as The Human League's "Louise"), but there wasn't really any point in doing them................. and of course, "Rudebox" itself is just a rip-off of Sly & Robbie, anyway.

Yeah, but the stage behind him looked bloody awesome while Rudebox was playing, so I just watched that instead :P

That doesn't excuse it in the least!!:dozey:

Anyway, it definitely seems that Robbie's walked away with the "shit album of the year award", so congrats Robbie!!

i guess you all forgot to mention Lily Allen's crappy piece of music...

Well she's the only one to have ever incorporated "Tesco" in a song lyric!!:P

THere are so so many...i will have to think about if for a while...then I shall edit this post and write my list!!!

I completely agree with Sam's Town. They changed too much in too short a time, and I was never a Bruce Springsteen fan to begin with. I have no idea where all the hubub comes from.

Other than that, though... all the albums I've bought I've really enjoyed.

Well she's the only one to have ever incorporated "Tesco" in a song lyric!!:P

Not quite true...Genesis - Selling ENgland By The Pound refers to Tesco in a roundabout way!

I like Sam's Town, and I'm glad the Killers sound is still evolving, but it wasn't all I had hoped for.

I can't list the shit albums of the year, becauase I just don't listen to shit music, IMO!

The Bruce Springsteen influence isn't even that prominent. Most of the Springsteen criticism comes from something that Brandon Flowers said in an interview. He said he admired Springsteen or something, and now every critic has picked that up and mentioned the Boss as if the entire album is a tribute to him, when the band has even said that they weren't influenced by him as much as has been reported. Anyway, have you heard Read My Mind? It's the main reason why I can't say Sam's Town was disappointing, because it gave rise to that song. lol

haha, sorry, I'm ranting here. :P

Joanna Newsom's album was a let down but admittingly I didn't buy it and didn't listen to it often enough. But it was enough to realize it's nothing like her brilliant first one.

Apart from that I can't think of anything.
