I really want the audio only of this concert on my iPod. My dad knows people who can unlock DVD's for burning, and so they did this for my Coldplay DVD. I copied all of the files to my hard drive, but I'm sort of lost on the filetypes. This is a list of types that I see:

 

.IFO

.VOB

.BUP

 

So, I was wondering what type of file the audio for the concert would be in, and how to go about extracting the audio from those files and converting them to MP3, M4A, etc.

I would just search what they are on wikipedia or something.

The VOBs are the video files , if you use a program called PGCdemux , that can strip the audio from it in one file - no idea what format that will be in .

One problem though. I am using a Mac computer :(

In that case try this page - http://handbrake.m0k.org/ the program makes video files for Ipods but there is a selector for `movies` which with a bit of luck will allow you to select audio instead . Incidentally if you wish to rip dvds to your Mac you can use a program called Mac The Ripper from http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/MacTheRipper.shtml

It's old, but in 50 or so DVDs I have ripped the audio from, only one caused real problems, exports directly into mp3

Alright well with a little help from a program called HandBrake (thanks by the way) I got the entire concert into a .mp4 file. I assume it will be a bit easier to find a program to strip the audio from it now right?

The ImTOO complete collection, and you want from the items in there, the "Video-> Audio converter", which after entering the registration code found in the attached notepad file, you can convert the mp4 video to mp3 audio.

I got it to an MP3 file using a program called "Switch"
