Could someone elaborate on this "underdrive?"

 

I asked my dad about it and he has been playing for 20 years and hasn't even heard of it. Are there underdrive pedals you can buy or something?

I think he's taking the piss......

I have no idea what effects they are using, but i do know you wont be able to recreate the sound properly without a 12 string.

Well I believe Johnny is using a Thinline Tele and his sound is near identical to Chris'

 

Does anyone know if it's Chris or Johnny rocking out at the end?
