Amy Winehouse: Beehive with attitude

Is it impolite to ask if you've been to powder your nose, Amy Winehouse?

After the disastrous opening night of her UK tour, one might have thought Amy Winehouse would be trying to keep her nose clean.

But judging by the white powder lodged in her nostril, that seems to be far from the case.

Winehouse seemed in remarkably good spirits as she arrived for her sell-out show at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, in contrast to the opening night in Birmingham where she staggered round the stage insulting fans.

However many and varied her demons, it emerged last night that Winehouse, 24, has at least one invaluable ally in her battle against substance abuse: Pete Doherty, a man who has been there and back again, several times.

Doherty, 28, said he and Winehouse were helping each other fight drugs.

He also said that she has been clean since her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, was arrested and remanded in custody on charges of GBH and perverting the course of justice.

Doherty said: "I speak to Amy almost every day. She just wants her man back for Christmas. They are desperately in love.

"One good thing is that Blake has got clean since he has been in prison. It's been quite an awakening. Amy stopped doing everything since he went in. She realises how much they have to lose. They are going to lose each other if it carries on. Love, music and melody is the way forward."

But Winehouse's mother Janis, 52, meanwhile, has gone one further, and said that jail was the best thing that has happened to Blake.

"Thank God he's gone inside because its also a case of now he's going to learn," Janis told First Magazine "I think, while they are apart, she will wake up and think, 'What have I done?'"

"I hope Amy has not been taking drugs long enough for it to be a real addiction. I don't think she's stupid enough to actually keep going.

"If his and Amy's relationship is meant to be, it will survive this.

"I don't bear Blake any ill will. If he and Amy are meant to be together he will have to straighten up.

"What's happened to Blake could be a great lesson in life for Amy, but we'll have to wait and see. However, I have always had this intuitive feeling about Amy...that she will always be fine."

Amy Winehouse's face of fury as she visits husband in jail

Amy Winehouse's hedonistic lifestyle is clearly taking its' toll on the singer as she lashed out at photographers on her way to visit her husband in jail.

Pictured on her way to London's HM Pentoville prison to visit husband Blake Fielder-Civil who is being held there after being accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, it looks as though 24-year-old Amy is struggling to keep it together.

Agressive Winehouse's erratic behaviour has gone from bad to worse, pulling a series of VERY strange facial expressions, unable to hide her contempt at the awaiting media circus.

The increasingly troubled singer, who has previously admitted to a heroin addiction and once collapsed after a drugs overdose, has been provoking concern lately after a string of incidents have caused her career to spiral into crisis.

Once hailed as the most important female artist of her generation, Amy has made a mess of her UK tour so far, performing a shambolic gig in Birmingham last week, where she forgot her words, fell over and swore at the audience.

At a most recent gig, she arrived 40 minutes late on stage, rambled incoherently and disappeared off-stage repeatedly.

Miss Winehouse told the audience at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool that she dearly loved her husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

She said she had missed his prison phone call that night and added: "He would have loved to have been here. I spoke to him last night but I can only call either before or after EastEnders."

Babyshambles frontman, Pete Doherty has spoken out in defence of Amy, insisting her husband's absence is to blame for the star's behaviour.

Standing by her man: Amy Winehouse mouths 'I love you' as Blake enters the dock

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse and her husband smiled and mouthed words of reassurance across a crowded courtroom to each other today.

At one stage Blake Fielder-Civil, in custody for allegedly trying to bribe a pub landlord to drop an assault allegation against him, silently told his wife: "I love you."

A few minutes later, he asked her: "You all right, you OK?"

The performer, who appeared close to tears at one stage, nodded a "yes" in response from the front row of the public gallery at London's Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Throughout much of the hearing, the performer, sporting her trademark beehive hairstyle decorated with a yellow-patterned ribbon and wearing a black short-sleeved mini-dress, gazed adoringly at her 25-year-old husband as he sat behind the glass-fronted dock.

His mother Georgette, just a seat away from her daughter-in-law, smiled repeatedly at her son, who is being held in custody.

The 25-year-old, of Jeffrey's Place, Camden, north London, who at one point took off his black jacket to reveal heavily-tattooed arms, is said to have offered licensee James King a significant amount of money to withdraw an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm against him and to leave the country.

He and co-defendant Michael Brown, 25, of Durand Close, Carshalton, Surrey, who also denies the GBH allegation, allegedly carried out the attack on June 20 last year.

Is Amy Winehouse snorting a 'mystery substance' while live on stage?

Amy Winehouse has sparked concern by appearing to snort a mystery substance during a live stage performance.

The troubled singer, who has previously admitted to a heroin addiction and once collapsed after a drugs overdose, seemed to take a parcel from her bra and put it up towards her nostril.

She then veiled a silk scarf in front of her face for a few moments before agitatedly rubbing her nose.

Winehouse, 24, then struggled to string a coherent sentence together as she exchanged banter with the crowd at the Brixton Academy between songs.

The award-winning singer was pictured on stage in Blackpool earlier this week with what looked like white powder blobbed up her nose.

The London show on Thursday evening was by all accounts a memorable one.

The lyrics and her asides to the audience were littered with references to her currently incarcerated husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

The 25-year-old was remanded in custody a fortnight ago accused of perverting the course of justice and causing grievous bodily harm. Mr Fielder-Civil appeared in court in London yesterday and Winehouse was there to support him.

The previous night appearing in a tiny, pink patterned mini-dress Winehouse dedicated a rendition of Sam Cooke's Cupid to her husband, proudly reminding the crowd it was her six-month anniversary only four days before.

When she came to her encore Valerie, the song was re-jigged in her customary style, with her singing: "I'll get you out of jail, my Blakey" in typically soulful fashion.

As she prepared to launch into Wake Up Alone, she announced: "This is my husband's favourite song, I usually sing it to him, but he's not here," much to the delight of a sympathetic crowd.

Winehouse had finally appeared on stage an hour late, flanked by a nine-piece band clad in black suits to a backdrop of a swinging 1950s jazz club.

In contrast to recent shows, her late arrival was followed by a sensational performance which delighted the 4,000 strong crowd at her first London appearance on her sell-out tour.

Coming along to support Mrs Winehouse in the absence of Fielder-Civil was Arctic Monkeys front-man Alex Turner, singer Kelly Osbourne and Kimberley Stewart, while the singer also proudly announced that her long-suffering father had come to watch her performance.

Members of the audience were quick to praise the performance of the 24-year-old singer after a disastrous start to the tour.

"She really brought it out the bag with this performance," said 21-year-old fan Carmella Rubenchik.

"I thought with Blake's trial coming up she would be a bit wobbly. She changed a lot of the songs to mention him, but it was wonderful."

"She was fantastic, her performance was top notch and much better than we thought it might have been after what happened in Birmingham," said Shereen Parker, 25, from South London.

Help at last? Amy Winehouse on the verge of checking into rehab

After she was pictured with a nose full of white powder following another incoherent gig, I am relieved to hear that singer Amy Winehouse is on the brink of coming to her senses – and checking herself in for a serious dose of rehab.

The 24-year-old – who famously sang the lyrics "They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said no, no, no," – has so far shunned proper professional help for her drink and drug abuse, quitting within hours on the few occasions she has enrolled on treatment programmes.

But friends say she is now planning to check into The Priory in the New Year and make a determined effort to end her problems.

"Amy has always been against rehab, it's been her one rule but her family and friends are working on getting her to do it," says a friend.

"Amy finishes her current tour in the middle of December. She has promised to consider going to The Priory if she doesn't get clean over Christmas. She is miserable and, with her husband in jail, she has reached an all-time downer.

"The fact is Amy's shambolic appearances have been losing her fans, and ultimately it's losing her business.

There have been some serious talks between Amy and her management, who are trying to convince her that in order to continue her success she needs to sort out her private life.

"Her parents are also trying to persuade her to get some professional help to try to kick her drug habit."

I'm told Amy's father Mitch, who recently introduced her to Yogabeats, a yoga-based therapy that can apparently cure crack cocaine habits, is desperate for her to check into a clinic.

Last week, Amy's mother Janice revealed she was pleased that her daughter's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, was behind bars because it would give Amy a chance to get off drugs.

He was remanded in custody again on Friday, accused of assaulting a landlord and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A spokesman for Amy insisted she was planning to start the New Year by working, adding: "She is going back into the studio to record another album."

Let's hope, for Amy's sake, that she finds time to sort herself out first.

Red alert: Amy Winehouse's scarlet nose hints that recent troubles are taking their toll

She's said to be on the verge of finally going to rehab - and as these pictures show Amy Winehouse is in dire need of it.

With a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and her bony frame unsightly in a tiny dress, the troubled singer frightened fans with her appearance on Saturday night.

She had appeared at her third London gig in a week - but her suspiciously red nostril and tired and haggard appearance showed all was not well.

She risked alienating her loyal fans by walking out of yet another concert long before it was due to finish.

With smeared make-up, tattoos and a cigarette clenched between her teeth she looked a long way from one of the UK's most successful performers.

During the concert at the Hammersmith Apollo in London she rambled incoherently and disappeared off stage repeatedly. After boos from the crowd on Saturday night, she left.

The 24-year-old, distraught that husband Blake Fielder-Civil is in custody, also appeared to have a nasty red scab in a nostril. Earlier last week, she was pictured with a white substance lodged in her nose.

The singer, who has previously admitted to a heroin addiction, has claimed she is now clean. But her parents have become increasingly concerned about Fielder-Civil's influence.

Miss Winehouse's mother Janis, 52, said she was glad he was behind bars because it would give her daughter a chance to be weaned off drugs.

Fielder-Civil, 25, has been remanded in custody accused of perverting the course of justice and causing grievous bodily harm.

"Her parents are also trying to persuade her to get some professional help to try to kick her drug habit."

Amy's father Mitch, who recently introduced her to Yogabeats, a yoga-based therapy that can apparently cure crack cocaine habits, is desperate for her to check into a clinic.

Meanwhile, Amy Winehouse's mum, Janis, said she was proud of both her children.

She said: "Like any parent with talented children I'm hugely proud of their achievements but can honestly say I've never pushed or cajoled them into show business. I just want them to be happy.

"I'm not in awe of greatness and don't take special credit for the way their talents have risen to the surface."

Speaking of the relationship between Amy and her brother, Alex, who has just written a Christmas pantomime, she added: "We're a strong family unit and the bond between Amy and Alex is unshakeable. He's always there for her. He's very protective of her and always will be. He doesn't like seeing her hurt or upset.

"He's upset by the current criticism of Amy, as we all are, and has asked her critics to be a bit more understanding in view of her youth."

Amy Winehouse scraps all concerts

Singer Amy Winehouse has called off all gigs and other public appearances for the remainder of 2007, after her doctor advised her to take complete rest. The troubled performer was reportedly treated in rehab this year and UK fans booed her during one shambolic concert.

She had been due to play at the BIC in Bournemouth later and the Cardiff International Arena on Wednesday.

Gigs were also planned in December in Dublin, Belfast, Manchester and London, and all tickets will now be refunded.

A statement issued by concert promoter Live Nation blamed "the rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks" for the decision.

"In the interests of her health and wellbeing, Amy has been ordered to take complete rest and deal with her health issues," the statement added.

A spokeswoman for the company said there were no plans to reschedule the concerts and fans should return their tickets to the outlet where they purchased them.

Winehouse, 24, was quoted as saying: "I can't give it my all on stage without my Blake. I'm so sorry but I don't want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing.

"My husband is everything to me and without him it's just not the same."

This was a reference to Blake Fielder-Civil, who has been remanded in custody until 18 January, accused of assaulting a pub landlord last June.

He also faces a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Critical acclaim

Winehouse's behaviour has been in the headlines throughout this year.

Last month she was fined after being found with cannabis in a hotel in the Norwegian city of Bergen.

She called off a series of concerts and appearances after reportedly being treated for drug addiction.

The US leg of her tour in September was shelved while she continued to address problems with her health, and there had been hopes that this would be rearranged for 2008.

But the singer has also received critical acclaim for her current album Back to Black, containing hits such as Rehab and You Know I'm No Good.

This year she was named best female singer at the Brit Awards, and she received two prizes at the Music of Black Origin (Mobo) Awards in London.

Amy Winehouse sought comfort in cocktails at 6am amidst reports she is set to be grilled by police over the charges against her husband.

The Rehab singer spent the early hours of Sunday morning surrounded by friends - and alcohol - at a London bar, later stopping off at a supermarket for supplies before heading home just before 7am.

According to reports, she will be quizzed by authorities over their investigation into Blake Fielder-Civil, who is now in remand at North London's Pentonville prision on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The Mirror quoted a Scotland Yard source as saying: "We have no evidence against Amy being involved in any crime.

"If we had she would have been arrested straight away. But we do want to talk to her about matters, particularly financial ones, which may be important in this case."

"But she will be able to continue with her plans of going on a holiday with her friends, which she is looking forward to."

While his daughter's behaviour has become increasingly erratic, he denied reports the troubled star is suicidal.

He said: "Amy is on the road to recover and there's no way she would consider that."

Some people, no matter how talented, are just doomed from the start. I hope I'm wrong about this one.

Don't you mean a new (criminal) record??

Hasn't she got a new single out?

I don't know, but she should definitely be newly single. I'm not blaming all her problems on Hubby, but it would be a good start on the road to recovery.
