Amy Winehouse arrested over alleged £200,000 plot to fix husband's assault trial

Amy Winehouse has been arrested over an alleged £200,000 plot to fix her husband's assault trial.

The singer arrived at Shoreditch Police Station in east London at 5pm to be "arrested by appointment", before being formally interviewed, fingerprinted and DNA tested.

It is understood that she was questioned over accusations that she was aware of a plan to derail the GBH case against her husband of seven months Blake Fielder-Civil.

Fielder-Civil is currently remanded in custody at Pentonville Prison in north London on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to the assault case.

Fielder-Civil, 25, and Michael Brown are accused of assaulting James King, the landlord of Macbeths pub in Hoxton, east London, on June 20 last year.

It is alleged that they later conspired to pervert the course of justice by offering Mr King a significant amount of money - reported to be £200,000 plus £10,000 costs - to withdraw his allegation and flee to Spain until the case collapsed.

Two other men also facing the same charge are Anthony Kelly, 25, from Chalk Farm, north west London, and James King, 36, from Risley, Derbyshire.

All four have been remanded in custody until January 18 for a plea and directions hearing with a trial date pencilled in for June.

Fielder-Civil and Brown's trial was adjourned after they were accused of the conspiracy charge.

Winehouse cancelled her remaining UK tour dates following her husband's arrest after giving several shambolic performances.

The soul singer, who has battled drugs and depression, has insisted: "Blake has told me he's done nothing wrong and I believe him.

"Someone has set him up but whatever happens I'll be there for him."

Fielder-Civil's mum Georgette, 42, has also said: "He'd never try and fix his trial."

But investigating officers have now turned their attentions to Miss Winehouse.

Police have confiscated her mobile phone records, bank details and computer software which could provide evidence of the star's alleged involvement in the plot.

They also visited the singer's accountants, the prestigious London-based firm Smallfield Cody, in an attempt to track all of her financial dealings.

What is known is that while Fielder-Civil has virtually no income as record industry gofer, his wife has amassed huge earnings from her award-winning yet fledgling career.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "A 24-year-old woman has been arrested by appointed at an East London police station.

"The arrest was in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice."

Later, Winehouse was released on police bail until March, next year.

The arrest is the latest in a string of upsets for the troubled star who cancelled her tour following some erratic performances leading to fears about her health.

winehouse091107_468x593.jpgWinehouse has a tearful goodbye with Blake as he is arrested in November

A statement from the singer's company said the tour was being cancelled due to instructions from her doctor.

In October she and her husband were held overnight by police in Norway for possession of drugs.

The pair, who married in May, were arrested in Bergen during her European tour.

Her father Mitch also said in October that he was so concerned about his daughter he wrote a eulogy he expected to deliver at her funeral.

He said she had cut down on her drinking but was still battling with bulimia and drug addiction.

Winehouse was admitted to a London hospital in the summer and was said to have come close to death after taking cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine and marijuana.

The singer then quit rehab for a second time, to the dismay of her parents.

Mr Winehouse said last night: "Amy's arrest has been planned for the past three weeks, so it's nothing new to any of us.

"It is all been arranged between Amy and the police. She was asked to attend the police station to be questioned and have her DNA taken to assist them with the investigation into Blake's charges.

"We have no complaint with how the police have handled the investigation or how they have treated Amy.

He added: "Maybe Amy will be charged, but at the moment I don't know any more than her being asked to attend the police station by appointment.

"My main concern is my daughter's welfare. She has family with her and is perfectly fine with helping the police.

"Obviously we'll have to wait and see what the police plan to do next but as for Amy being arrested, it is all above board and she is merely helping in any way she can."

Her father recently recently raised concerns about her friendship with the equally troubled singer Pete Doherty who he branded a "scumbag".

Mitch admits he was disgusted to see the Babyshambles frontman backstage at Amy's gig at Brixton Academy earlier this month.

It has been claimed that Mitch smacked Doherty and hit him with a guitar at the concert.

Speaking to Grazia magazine, Mitch said: "I do worry about people like Pete Doherty though. He's a scumbag.

"I flipped when I saw him sitting with Amy backstage at her Brixton gig. That night I went crazy.

"My wife thought I was going to have a heart attack, I was apoplectic..."

He also went on to talk about her marriage to Fielder-Civil andadmitted he had been impressed by Amy's husband attempt to clean-up since he was imprisoned last month.

Despite being against the whirlwind marriage earlier this year, Mitch says he respects Amy's choice of husband.

"I wasn't in favour of the marriage, but they are married and I will support them, and he's shown while he's been in prison a level of maturity that he didn't have before."

Rex Features

New pictures and video footage have emerged showing Amy Winehouse with drugs equipment and using racist language.

Images published by the News of the World show the singer surrounded by what appears to be paraphernalia for using heroine and crack cocaine.

The video is said to have been filmed around May last year by Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

It shows the star and a friend using racial slurs in a rendition of nursery rhyme 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'.

Fielder-Civil apparently assures Winehouse: "Well done. I promise I wasn't recording it." He is currently being held on remand and faces charges including grievous bodily

Amy Winehouse needs to get her s**t together. It's sad that people like this are role models for young teenagers.

My beautiful Amy has emphysema: Winehouse's father speaks out and warns Pete Doherty to stay away from her

By Tamara Hardingham-gill

Last updated at 2:15 PM on 22nd June 2008

Amy Winehouse’s long-suffering father Mitch has revealed that the singer has contracted emphysema and could be confined to a wheelchair within a month if she doesn’t quit drugs.

In an emotional interview the cab driver told how doctors have warned his daughter – who was rushed to hospital last week – that she may be forced to wear a permanent oxygen mask to survive if she doesn’t follow medical advice.

‘To think this could be my beautiful 24-year-old daughter's life is preposterous. But if drugs mean more to her than breathing properly, then so be it.

Worried: Mitch Winehouse, pictured taking Amy to hospital last week, has revealed that she has emphysema and could be confined to a wheelchair in a month

‘But the doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her.’ He said.

Winehouse collapsed at her North London home last week and was taken for tests at a London hospital by her father.

The extent of her condition has put in doubt her appearance at the Nelson Mandela birthday concert in Hyde Park on Friday with concerns that she may also pull out of Glastonbury the following day.

Mitch Winehouse has urged her drug dealers and addict friends such as rocker Pete Doherty – who has been spending time with the 24-year-old since his release from prison last month – to stay away from her.

‘I'm saying to those drug dealers, and they know who they are, if they are supplying crack to Amy, then they've got to take responsibility. I don't want her hanging out with her mates like Pete Doherty either.’ He said.

He revealed that the singer’s 26-year-old husband Blake Fielder-Civil – who is awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to GBH and conspiring to pervert justice - has vowed to come off drugs and has been calling her every day 'to help her stay strong'.

Illness: Amy is being observed by a nurse 24 hours a day at private London hospital The Clinic but is expected to be released in a week

‘Blake apologised to me for getting Amy into drugs and says he's going to try and put it right.

‘Blake was clean when I saw him but he's told me he wants to go into rehab. We've organised it so that as soon as he's out, that happens.

‘He wants to go from zero to hero. It's very hard for him being in prison, but at least he's been trying.’ He said.

Emphysema – usually caused by smoking - is a progressive lung condition which ages the lung’s prematurely and leaves sufferers struggling for breath.

The damage caused by the disease is irreversible and can lead some sufferers to become dependent on oxygen supplies.

The 57-year-old – who split from the troubled star’s mother Janis when she was a teenager – says that she is in the ‘early stages of the illness’.

‘The doctors have said that if she had continued the way she was going she could have ended up an invalid - she wouldn't have been able to breathe.

‘With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70 per cent lung capacity. ‘

Winehouse – who has suffered two seizures in the past year – was also suffering from irregular heartbeats when she was admitted to private London hospital The Clinic, the condition is now being controlled by medication.

The singer is now desperate to turn her life around and has promised to stay clean, recently starting a drug replacement programme,

But her father admits that he is terrified that his she will fall into her old habits after she is released from hospital – where is being observed by a nurse 24 hours a day – and be ‘dead in three months.’

Happier times: Amy with husband Blake Fielder-Civil before he was arrested. He has been calling the singer every day to 'keep her strong'

'My family have been criticised for not doing enough for Amy. Some say we should put her in a room and throw away the key but that's against the law. In our limited way, we are doing the best we can and we are being guided by the doctors and psychologists

"There's no need to cry yet. If, God forbid, doctors said they can't help her, then that's when we can have a good cry.

‘But if she doesn't go back to drugs then she can lead this magnificent life. With her husband Blake too, if he gets clean as well."

He added: "We are praying that that's what Amy really wants. She seems resolute.

"I've started to see my old Amy back. We'll just have to see how great her resolution is," he told the Sunday Mirror.

If this is true, I feel really bad for Amy. She needs help, and I hope that she manages to kick the drug habit.

Amy's sensational confession: I took drugs in rehab

article-0-01D1678D00000578-712_233x558.jpg Amy Winehouse has admitted to taking heroine while being treated for drug abuse in rehab

Rehab singer Amy Winehouse has been put under 24-hour supervision after she confessed to taking drugs while in rehab.

In a dramatic interview, she admitted that she took heroin while undergoing treatment for her drug abuse.

The troubled singer - who was recently diagnosed with emphysema after she collapsed - told Rolling Stones Magazine of her wild ways.

She said: 'I've never been to rehab - I mean, done it properly. I'm young, and I'm in love, and I get my nuts off sometimes.'

'To be honest, my husband's away, I'm bored, I'm young. I felt like there was nothing to live for. It's just been a low ebb.'

Amy's label has now insisted on 24-hour watch over her in order to help the singer get her life back in order.

But after so many attempts to put Amy into rehab this could be another attempt in vain.

There is now surveillance outside of her home and a security guard standing at the door.

Anyone who wishes to enter the house in Camden North London needs approval.

But it appears the the singer is not too pleased about the decision to lock her in her home as she was seen running from her house today to jump into a friend's car on Tuesday night.

After her shocking collapse last month, Winehouse insisted that she was on the mend and was checked out of hospital.

She performed at the 90th birthday concert for Nelson Mandela where she sang a rendition of the famous song Fee Nelson Mandela, but later changed the lyrics to say 'Free Blaky my fella.'

Wow... This girl is .... without words :shocked2:

With a great voice, someone with a particular style... and drugs are her worst enemy... Sorry for her, I like her music...

She was singing in Rock In Rio (Madrid) in a few days, and... well... not bad but... :\

wow.

i feel so bad for her.

she's such an amazing musician. she needs help.

did anyone see how she like punched a dude at glastonbury?

she's got an attitude, and she's out there, i love that. but the drugs, not so much.

i hope she gets better.

and gains some weight. she makes me feel so fat. :P

More than anything else, she looks like she needs a good wash!!

I swear that I thought her beehive was gonna fall off her head and seriously hurt someone the way it kept moving at Glastonbury!!

Falling apart: Stick-thin Amy Winehouse looks more ravaged than ever... as she admits 'I can't go on like this'

It was a high society ball attended by a host of VIPs in their most glamorous gowns. But somehow Amy Winehouse didn't get the dress code quite right.

Wearing scruffy animal print shorts, the troubled star looked shockingly skinny and ill as she performed at the End of Summer Ball in London's Berkeley Square last night.

Ravaged: The shocking state of Amy's face is laid bare at the End of Summer Ball in London's Berkeley Square last night

With her gaunt physique, unkempt hair, smudged makeup and scratches on her legs the singer looked more unwell than ever.

The 25-year-old admitted she was on the verge of a breakdown after a night of worryingly shambolic behaviour — even by her standards.

The troubled star embarrassed herself by ruining her 12-year-old goddaughter’s debut singing performance and lashing out at a photographer before collapsing and sobbing: 'Life can’t go on. I can’t do this any more.'

The singer was at the Berkeley Square Ball in Mayfair to provide backing vocals for her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield.

But onlookers were shocked at how out of it Amy was, and the audience at the charity bash cringed as she grabbed and hugged Dionne as she tried to perform.

The pair were joined on stage by a live band and one of Amy’s backing singers for the three-song set.

We’re told: 'It was tragic — she seemed totally wasted. She was jumping all over Dionne as the poor girl tried to sing for the crowd. Amy didn’t really sing a single note — it sounded more like she was grunting down the mic.'

At the end of the performance, Amy’s backing singer told the crowd: 'Isn’t she great? She’s only 12-years-old!'

But Amy crowed: 'She’s better than you — it doesn’t matter how old she is.'

She then roamed from table to table, demanding to meet famous people.

Sugababe Heidi Range was sent to talk to her but couldn’t keep her attention long.

Our spy said: 'Amy was then asked to pose for the event’s official photographer, but flipped and tried to headbutt him. She looked like a woman possessed.'

But backstage things took a turn for the worse. Our spy adds: 'Amy collapsed backstage in tears. She kept saying, ‘Life can’t go on, I can’t do this’.'

It was a sorry return to the public eye for Amy, who has kept a low profile recently.

She arrived at her Camden home at the end of the night with only one shoe and looking horribly dishevelled.

Among the 850 guests at the glittering event were Kate Middleton's younger sister Pippa, Sugababe Heidi Range, model Emma Noble and former Atomic Kitten Liz McLarnon.

Party-goers paid £750 for tickets which included a meal by by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White and cocktails prepared by exclusive restaurant Nobu.

Does anybody still remember what she looked like when her first album came out? She was a little chubby... Not much left of her now.

I can still remember the first time I saw her on the tele in a late night show. Must have been around 2003.

She's quite the perfect example for a downward spiral.

I really hope she'll turn the corner.

She looks emaciated.

Or should that be Amyciated??
