They were in HAlifax for the Junos last year but I didn't feel like dishing out $90 or whatever it was to hear one song. And you could not pay me to see Nickleback and Black Eyed Peyes with in 12 hours. Thats just brutal.

Lol...I'll pass on that too. My roommate had the radio on yesterday, and they played a song I'd never heard before. I though it sounded like an older Niclkeback song. It was a NEW Nickleback song, lol. They can't even rip themselves of well anymore.:P

Oh its horrible...all their stuff sounds the same, you can't tell when its from because its like a never ending bad dream.

HAHAHA! I've joked tht they only wrote one song, but it's really long so it's going to take 10 albums to record it all!!!:laugh3: :P :laugh3:

haha....and wasn't Photograph just the most brutal thing to ever be put on the radio? arghh what a bad song!

So the Canadian bands you may like, don't know if you've listened to any of them.

In Flight Safety (Halifax)

Jets Overhead (Vancouver)

Pilate (Toronto i think)

the Contact (Halifax)

Jimmy Swith Band (Nova Scotia)

:) I'm a huge fan of the smiths, James, New Order, obviously Coldplay, anything like that. Can anyone recommend some good new British music in that vein? Thanks in advance.:)

The radio being what it is, (:bomb:) when I really need to listen to something radio-ish I like BBC's 6 Music... I really like the mix of stuff they play, and it's a great way to keep up with all the really interesting British bands out there right now. I've found alot of music that I like that way.

Ooh...thanks Erin.

I've heard Jets Overhead and Pilate...I LOVE Pilate. There's a band called Boy that I'm fond of too.

Are Boy still kicking around?

I don't know. I think they made a second album.

The media term "Brit Pop" died in the late 1990's.

I don't know if it still gets used in Britain, but it still gets used over here in the broad sense for British music in general.

Yeah. I know. It's just the easiest way to describe the kind of music I mean.

Yeah its used here in North America quite a bit to describe Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Keane, etc.

Well here in Germany it's categorised as "Alternative"!!;)

besides the bands that were already mentioned you should check pulp, blur, air traffic, dirty pretty things and mando diao.

so how should we call now?

Call it what you like, but the term used in the British media to describe what used to be known as brit-pop in the 90's is "Indie-Rock".

If you look belong what bands are being pushed in the media onto the bands who have a label and releases albums but don't get much radio-play or hyped up in the media because they are not "the current fashion", you will find some gems.

But Embrace actually really are Britpop and they still exist.

And what Travis do is nothing else.

Also, there are/were some German bands that totally ripped off Oasis and the like and to me that was Britpop as well, just... German Britpop....

Indie-rock is an interesting term. ALot of the bands with that label really are independant, but Coldplay still gets called Indie/Alternative and they're one of the biggest bands in the world on one of the biggest labels, lol.

The entire term "indie" used to mean a band signed up to an label not owned by the big 4 (Sony BMG, Universal, Warner & EMI).

Some bands from the 90's era brit-pop are still around.

Now indie also means bands who used to not be signed up to a major labels, but got snapped up by labels at the turn of the centurey or shortly after, or, bands that sound like those other bands, lol. (who also got snapped up by big labels a couple of years later)   confused yet?
