Old Friends

Does anyone really miss someone they used to be friends with?

I'm finished school now, I get my results on Thursday (good luck to anyone else that does too) and University starts in September, so I have a lot of friends moving away and I'm sure I'll make a lot of new ones.

But there's a few people who I've completely lost contact with recently. This one girl was my best friend about 18 months ago, and now I don't speak to her at all. Like, she was my absolute best friend, I used to tell her anything and everything.

And, when I was about 14, in year 9 of school, one of the girls in my group of friends, Catherine, died. Out of my group of friends, she was probably the one I spoke to least, but I'd known her for years because she went to primary school with me, too. She died because of some stupid thing, as well. She was just pretty ill, but nothing too serious, and she had a bad reaction to one of the antibiotics they gave her. At least, that's the story we got as friends. It was strange cause even though I never spoke to her much, everyone was pretty affected by it. It happened 4 years ago today, I think. This week, any how. I remember cause it was the summer holidays and I was on holiday in France or Italy, and at the time I was going out with one of the other girls in the group. There was about 6 of them who were all best friends. And when I got back everyone was so shocked and when we got back to the school and where we hung about at that time and it felt so different. I don't think about it that often, as I say, I wasn't personally that close to her, but when I do think about it, it's sad that she never got to live most of her life.

So, uhm... Who have you lost who was close to you or had an effect on you, whether they passed away, or are still around.

I'm sure there's a bunch of people who miss their friends from years and years ago.

pretty sad taht i've got to answer your question with a short "no".

i do not miss any of my old friends because they've never been close enough so that i couldn't live without them.

we were friends in primary school and stuff, but i don't talk to them anymore. well, i'm still in contact with one of my old friends, but that's about it.

i got two very best friends and we've known each other since primary school (but we couldn't stand one another back in the days). that's enough. i don't like to depend on friends.

the story about the girl that passed away is sad though, Jack.

even though you didn't really know each other. she was like any other teenager with all the wishes and dreams, i suppose. and then she suddenly died. that's rough.

I miss a couple of my old school friends whom I haven't spoken too since the last day of school due to the fact that we went to different colleges.

i miss my old friends from high school, but they are busy working or with uni... so we can't meet as often as we would like... :(

sorry for what happened to that friend of yours Jack :(

Hmm...

Well, I as still Junior High and still student;)

I miss my primary school too.. As people say "kindergarten"!?

I started school when I was 2 and half... And some of my old friends there were my neighbors ( I think lots of them but I didn't know the address until now ).. And yeah, I assure they forgot me either.. And then I moved school when I was 4 until now ( I'm still in that school, which this year is the last ) I was shocked that I can't believed 1 one all my friends still remember me, but I forgot

Same as elementary, forgot and remembered...........

I've def. lost some friends in the past and I do miss most of them. I lost contact with my only 2 childhood friends. I've heard that they both got married and have kids now and they both have girls. I also lost contact with my elementary school friends mainly because I moved. The one that hurt the most and do miss the most is this kid that I met the first day of high school. We bumped into each other in the very beginning and we just clicked right away. We were pretty close most people thought we were going out. Now that I think about it, we were probably into each other we just either didn't want it to admit or we were too scare to. We were making each other jealous I didn't know at the time. Other people interfered in our friendship and that was mainly why our friendship ended. Sad huh? So a day came and we got very upset at each other that not only did we stoped talking but we stoped seeing each other. I remember I would walk the opposite way just so I wouldn't see his face his dumb face (Yeah, I also remember saying that). He did made a rumor about me though. A day before our graduation we saw each other and there was that moment. I did walked towards him but then I don't know what happened that I eventually did ended up walking away.

I also had a friend that passed away. It was a guy that I was friends with since middle school. He died in a car accident on a race. From what was said was that the other car pushed his car to the side that he lost control of it and crashed into a tree. He would have graduated with me 4 months later. The other guy who was with him at the time who I also knew got in a coma. He then died a week later.

Those are really sad stories, guys. :( I haven't had any friends who have died, fortunately.

I really miss some friends who moved away to university. I haven't seen some of them since the last day of school and when I do we don't talk anymore. I hate it because we were so close just 1 year ago and then all of a sudden they're gone and have their own new lives with new friends. Ahh well... that's life.

I agree with you. I don't miss any of my friends.

I'm still in touch with 3 of my old friends from primary school, and 5 friends from highschool. That's all.

That's somehow pleasant to see old friends, to remind you of the past, but it's the past.

As much as I can, I try to avoid looking back into my past.

Sorry to hear this about this girl, Jack

There's a girl who I went out with once a few years ago who I was really close to. Like, best friends for a few years and then we went out and it ruined it. And then the summer came about and I went away for the whole summer (to London for 3 weeks and then Spain for 2) and when I got back we just didn't speak.

It was my fault. I maybe regret it a bit. But I saw her at prom and said sorry and yeah. That's it.

in a sense i'm pretty unique with my friendships from school. i went to an international school which i've most definitely mentioned here before. so everyone i was with came from overseas as weird as this may sound, school was our only time to socialise and still learn, but everyone who went to my school, and i do mean everyone, all wish we could re-live those high school days. they were that great. seriously some amazing memories.

once school ended, majority of my friends dispersed and we all went our own ways, but because we've all basically been friends since primary school, and for some just since middle school, we have maintained a level of closeness. i love that now and then, we can all get together and just talk about things we've been up to, what everyone is studying, and every so often reminise over high school moments lol it's quite lovely.

just recently a friend of mine who i hadn't seen since he left in yr.11 which was some 4 years ago, visited australia. when he came here a whole bunch of us gathered and just hung out. it was wonderful. we all just picked up from where we left. everyone has changed in a sense, but we're all pretty much the same people we were back in high school. only difference now is we can't see each other everyday and instead of going to school, we all go to uni. anyway i'm totally rambling on, as i do lol

so yeah my old friends are the best kind of friends, and although i've moved on and made new friends, there really is no comparison to those people back in school who i truly do see as my extended family :D

I will finish school in the year and I'm going on the unversity. I'm a little scared cause many of my friends will be in the other cities...
